“Good heavens. Silvi…?”

I hurriedly left the study with the book in my hands.

I knew exactly where I had seen this author before.

“Carl, I’m going to pay a quick visit to the Viscount Evanroar’s estate!”

“Whaaat?”

I heard Carl’s flustered voice from the room I had briefly stopped by, but I had no time to worry about that now.

I took the first available carriage and headed straight for the Viscount Evanroar’s estate.

“Lady Cilia?”

The first person I encountered as soon as I arrived at the Evanroar residence was Hail, the deputy butler. His eyes widened when he saw me suddenly appear.

“It’s been a while, Hail. Could you come out for a moment?”

I quickly passed him as he handed the documents he had been holding to a servant who had come to greet me.

“I actually have something I need to tell you, Lady Cilia…”

Hail seemed to be trying to stop me while saying something from behind, but I kept walking. I needed to confirm the pen name that was filling my thoughts.

And finally, I arrived at the room filled with that very pen name.

The Viscount Evanroar’s study, and Sylvestain’s private room.

“I definitely saw it here.”

Even though its owner had been away for a long time, the room was impeccably clean. In this place, where there wasn’t even a speck of dust, I was certain I had seen that name before.

I walked toward the bookshelves covering the wall.

“Here it is.”

The shelves were filled entirely with books written by an author using the pen name Silvi. However, there was no book related to Ruben anywhere.

Slightly disappointed, I walked over to the desk Sylvestain used.

There were notepads and fountain pens scattered across it, as if he had been jotting down ideas whenever they came to him. There was also an elegant business card bearing the pen name Silvi.

A conversation I had once shared with the owner of this room suddenly flashed through my mind.

‘Silvi? That’s your pen name?’

‘Yeah. Most of the subjects I write about are a little sensitive, so I didn’t feel comfortable using my real name.’

‘Still, why Silvi of all things?’

‘Because it’s a nickname only my family knows?’

Despite being the kind of person who caused trouble everywhere she went, Sylvestain had been especially affectionate toward Cilia, his younger sister.

He had turned the nickname Cilia used to call him into his pen name.

That was right.

Silvi was Sylvestain.

Which meant the person who had written a book about Ruben was Sylvestain as well.

“This is quite surprising…”

Why hadn’t I thought to check the cover sooner?

If I had, I would have realized it immediately.

And then I could have asked Sylvestain about Ruben—

“Ah.”

As soon as I got that far in my thoughts, I lightly knocked my head with my fist.

You idiot. Sylvestain isn’t here right now.

I had found out who the author of the book was. Not only that, I had even discovered that the author was my own brother.

And yet, I had no way to investigate Ruben.

‘Am I really going to have to wait for Sylvestain to return?’

I had meant to give myself a light tap, but I had forgotten about these iron arms of mine, so my head hurt quite a bit. I was clutching my head and groaning when a voice came from behind me.

“Lady Cilia.”

“Oh, Hail?”

It was Hail, the deputy butler.

He carefully closed the door behind him and entered the room before asking,

“Is there something you need to find in the residence?”

Hail seemed like the kind of person who rarely showed emotion. Even though he must have been quite surprised by my sudden appearance, judging by how little his expression had changed.

Something I was looking for? There certainly was.

The problem was that it wasn’t here.

“Ah. No. By any chance, do you know how I could get in touch with Sylvestain?”

Sylvestain had left the estate a long time ago, claiming that he suddenly needed to conduct some research. Since he occasionally secluded himself whenever he was writing a book, the research was probably related to his writing.

The timing was roughly… yes, it had been right after Cilia brought rice from the Eastern Continent.

Hail thought deeply about my question for a moment before taking something out from inside his coat and handing it to me.

“What’s this?”

“A letter from Lord Sylvestain addressed to you, Lady Cilia. It arrived this morning, and I was just about to send it to the Siastor family.”

Sylvestain had sent me a letter?

“As far as I know, Lord Sylvestain did not leave an address when he departed. However, there may be an address in this letter where you can send a reply.”

Hail was right. I took the letter from him and tore open the envelope with my hands. Hail offered me a letter opener, but I had no time to use it.

[Hello, Cilia.

It is your oldest friend and your only family, your brother. The weather is starting to get colder. Have you been well?

Even though it is only a hobby, it pains your brother’s heart to think of you farming in this weather with that delicate little body of yours.]

“……”

Sylvestain had deeper feelings for Cilia than I had expected. But more importantly, what exactly was so delicate about this body?

Feeling slightly embarrassed, I continued reading the next sentence.

[You were surprised when your brother suddenly left, weren’t you? I’m sorry. I should have explained the reason to you, my only family in this world, but your brother was in too much of a hurry.]

It seemed that Sylvestain really didn’t consider Axion’s biological mother, Cilia’s half-sister, to be family. Judging by how he kept repeating the words ‘only family.’

Well, that explained why they had lived like strangers until now.

However, Cilia herself seemed to have been somewhat different from Sylvestain. She had apparently considered adopting Axion, after all.

[Actually, I was greatly surprised when I learned that you had been to the Eastern Continent. I had thought for some time that you were a special child, but to think that you have a body unaffected by barriers and magic…]

Huh…?

A body unaffected by barriers and magic.

That was a characteristic of Cilia’s that I had only recently learned about through Dazar.

[It was difficult to believe, so I told you that it was merely a coincidence. But after coming here to investigate the barrier, I am beginning to believe that it really is true that you possess such an ability.

However, do not tell anyone about this fact. Especially not those who use magic. Otherwise, I fear you may be put in danger.

So please stay quietly in the residence until I return. As it happens, I think I may have found a clue regarding your special body.]

A clue about Cilia’s body? I continued reading the letter.

[I don’t think yours is the first case of its kind.

I’ll return soon.

P.S. If you wish to send me a reply, send it here. It is a place I visit at least once a month to obtain information.

Wolfe’s Shoe Shop.

To my precious little sister Cilia, from your brother, Sylvestain.]

After finishing the letter, I stood there blankly, blinking for a while.

So, did that mean Sylvestain had realized that Cilia had a strange body that was unaffected by barriers and magic, and had left to investigate it?

And this wasn’t the first case of its kind.

“Then, at least… I’ve managed to get a clue about how to contact Sylvestain.”

Wolfe’s Shoe Shop.

Apparently, it was a place that sold shoes while also dealing in information.

Hail, who had been quietly watching my reaction, spoke up.

“Does the letter contain Lord Sylvestain’s whereabouts?”

“Yes. Thankfully.”

“That is indeed fortunate. If you are planning to write a reply to Lord Sylvestain, could you please pass along this message as well?”

“Huh? Uh, sure, of course. What is it?”

Seeing Hail’s unusually serious expression, I instinctively became serious as well. Hail, who had quietly worked without drawing much attention until now, was actually asking me for a favor.

It had to be an important request, important enough that I could temporarily set aside my surprise over learning that Sylvestain was Silvi and that he was already investigating the special nature of this body.

I swallowed nervously and waited for his answer.

Finally, his usually straight, expressionless lips opened.

“Please tell him to let us know where he put the books he borrowed from the Imperial Library using the viscount’s seal as collateral: Let’s Uncover the Secrets of the World! The Mischievous Guards, Part 2, Grand Adventure: Even a Young Nobleman Can Do It!, and The Mystery Solver Is You!”

“…Uh, what?”

“If they remain overdue, there is a possibility that we may not be able to retrieve the viscount’s seal that he left as collateral. Furthermore, I hear that many young noblemen have been complaining because they are waiting for Let’s Uncover the Secrets of the World! The Mischievous Guards, Part 2. So please, please make sure to mention that book in particular, even more than the other two.”

“……”

Oh, I see.

The siblings were both nerds in their own way.

The younger sister was a farming enthusiast, while the older brother was a mystery enthusiast.

No wonder all the books on the shelves seemed to have titles involving uncovering the secrets of the world.

‘So that must be why he started researching Ruben.’

The fact that he was trying to uncover the secret of this body was probably less because he was worried about his little sister and more because, as a mystery enthusiast, he simply couldn’t resist the mystery.

Otherwise, there was no way he would have left his little sister alone like this, knowing that she might go to the Eastern Continent again.

“Got it, Hail. I’ll make sure to include that in my reply. Don’t worry too much.”

“Yes. I’ll leave it to you.”

Leaving Hail’s formal bow behind, I headed back toward the Siastor residence.

I planned to write a reply to him as soon as I returned.
