I’m the Future Crazy Male Lead’s Mother Chapter 38
It was all well and good that I had confidently set off on my way.
But then I ran into a major obstacle.
I grabbed my forehead and let out a deep sigh.
“Seriously, where in the world am I supposed to beeee……?”
That was right.
I had come out through a different door from the one I had entered through, and somehow, I had gotten completely lost inside this endlessly white building.
‘I’m not even bad with directions!’
The reason I, someone who normally didn’t get lost this easily, was sighing repeatedly while holding Axion was entirely because of this building.
‘There should at least be some kind of sign so you can tell the paths apart!’
The walls were all the same color, and every corridor had the exact same structure.
There wasn’t even a window through which I could look outside.
There was absolutely nothing here that could serve as a landmark.
Unless I had a navigation system with me, getting lost was practically inevitable.
“Uaa?”
“Axiooon. Could you please save your mama……?”
On top of that, Axion seemed uncomfortable being held in my arms all day and kept squirming around.
In the end, I had to sit down for a moment in one corner of the corridor and put Axion down on the floor as well.
Once on the floor, Axion went, “Ussha,” stood up, then toddled over to the white wall and began smacking it with both palms.
“You hate that wall, don’t you? Yeah. Mama hates that wall too. I wonder if we could get outside if we just broke through it?”
“Uaa!”
Axion looked so adorable smacking the wall that I couldn’t help but smile, but I figured I really needed to get out of here soon, so I stood up.
“Come on, Axion. Come here. We should get going now.”
At this rate, I was going to waste too much time.
‘I need to stop by that shop from before.’
Since I was coming to the capital anyway, I had deliberately brought Morokanil’s stone with me.
I was hoping that Morokanil might show up again at the shop called ‘Give Me Three Seconds and I’ll Poison Them to Death.’
“Uff.” I picked up Axion, who had gotten surprisingly heavy lately, and was just about to start walking again when—
“Ah, I hate this. I have to run into that fox again.”
“We can’t help it.”
Two voices came from the corridor opposite me.
To my ears, those voices sounded like the trumpets of angels themselves.
Ba-da-ba-daaaam!
“E-Excuse me!”
I hurried over and stopped in front of them.
“Gyaaah!”
Apparently, neither of them had expected me to suddenly appear, because the shorter one fell flat on his backside.
This person sure had quite the reaction.
As I wondered whether he could become an instant ratings killer if he went on a Korean variety show, I hurriedly opened my mouth.
“I’m sorry for startling you! Um, excuse me, if you don’t mind, could I ask you for directions for a moment?”
“……Huh?”
For some reason, I immediately realized that my question had probably not been very appropriate.
The boy who had fallen on his backside had let out a strange “Huh?” sound, while the woman standing there blankly looked utterly bewildered.
“What are you? An intruder?”
The woman tilted her head with a dazed expression.
“Do intruders these days really carry babies around and get lost like this? I can’t keep up with the trends.”
The boy frowned and said,
“You idiot. There’s no way she’s an intruder. I can’t sense any miasma from her at all. And she doesn’t look like she has any strength, either.”
She doesn’t look like she has any strength?
Ahem.
I discreetly hid my iron arms and iron legs and spoke politely.
“Uh, I just came to see the Saintess for a little while. I’m on my way back, but it’s my first time here, so I got lost.”
“The Saintess? You met that old fox?”
Old fox?
I had no idea how that Saintess, who looked like such a pure and delicate young girl, could possibly be called an old fox.
But looking at the two of them, who seemed to know her much better than I did, I felt a slight chill creep into one corner of my heart.
‘Don’t tell me the Saintess was only putting on an act in front of me?’
Nah. What would she have to gain from that?
I narrowed my eyes at the fleeting suspicion, then quickly came to my senses and decided there was no reason for her to do such a thing.
“Why is she an old fox?”
“Uh…… I had some business with her?”
“Hmmm.”
The boy, who had been sitting on the floor after falling on his backside, suddenly bounced to his feet and landed neatly in place. He rested a hand on his chin and furrowed his brows.
“Isn’t this currently the period when only those involved with the ‘Day of the Rift’ are allowed to meet her?”
“You remember it that way too? I remember it that way as well.”
The dazed-looking woman nodded along.
The two of them put their heads together and whispered for a moment. Then, as if they had finally figured it out, they suddenly raised their heads.
“You! Are you that newly appeared Transcendent? Vanilla or whatever?”
“Indeed! Vanilla!”
The boy proudly pointed his index finger straight at me like a detective who had just solved a case, raising the tip of his nose triumphantly.
Uh…… if he meant Vanilla, was he talking about my daughter-in-law, Vanilla?
The two of them seemed to be making a rather big mistake.
‘How do I look anything like Vanilla? She’s still a child.’
When I merely stared at them with a sullen expression, the boy seemed to notice something strange. His eyes rolled around as he looked me up and down.
Apparently, he had only just realized that I was clearly an adult.
Then his eyes shifted toward Axion.
The tip of his index finger slowly moved toward Axion as well.
“Ahem! Right, I mean you. You!”
“You! Is it you?”
The woman also exclaimed in a dazed little voice.
There was something strange about these people.
Their odd way of speaking, and the fact that they seemed a little…… slow.
‘I shouldn’t have talked to them.’
As someone who had been approached by people asking if I “knew the way” every single day back in Korea, I knew very well that strange people were best left alone.
I quietly turned my gaze away from them, adjusted Axion in my arms, and turned toward the wall.
“Ah, I suddenly remembered the way. It was this way, right?”
I muttered to myself as I tried to walk past them.
“Wait! You have to greet your seniors before you leave! Vanilla!”
“Indeed! Greet us!”
I didn’t expect them to be senior-citizen syndrome types.
I couldn’t help but feel bitter after witnessing that authoritarian culture that I had thought existed only in Korea.
Hierarchy…… how horrifying.
Suddenly, I wondered if Vanilla had had a hard time growing up as a Transcendent, too.
‘They’re assholes.’
Forgetting for a moment the fact that Vanilla had once confidently cursed someone out, I turned around with a sudden sense of responsibility.
If these kinds of seniors were going to be around Vanilla, my future daughter-in-law, that definitely wouldn’t do!
“I’m sorry, but first of all, this child isn’t Vanilla.”
“Uh…….”
“Ah…… So, she isn’t?”
The boy slowly hid the index finger he had been pointing at me behind his other hand.
Ahem.
An awkward cough followed.
“R-Right. I see. I was mistaken!”
“Yes. But just because you’re a senior doesn’t mean your juniors are obligated to greet you. I’m also your senior in terms of life experience, yet you didn’t greet me either, did you?”
It was complete nonsense, but perhaps because I said it with such confidence, the boy’s pupils trembled slightly.
The dazed-looking woman seemed to sense something strange and tilted her head.
Before she could open her mouth, I quickly cut her off.
Ahem!
“So, I hope you won’t force that Vanilla girl to greet you either. Seniors are supposed to cherish and look after their juniors. That’s the virtue of being a senior. If you do that, your juniors will naturally come to respect you.”
“B-But Dazar received greetings from me every day for ten years after I became a Transcendent……”
That damn Dazar.
He was getting in my way even here!
For a moment, I couldn’t hide the expression of pure disgust spreading across my face.
The woman, who was looking directly at me, turned slightly pale.
Oops.
I quickly replaced my expression with a smile and continued.
“That Dazar is just a dog of a man. He has a terrible personality, right?”
“Y-Yeah! His personality is absolutely awful and disgusting. How did you know?”
“Someone like that is why he forces his juniors to greet him like that. You don’t want to become like that Dazar, do you?”
The boy stiffly shook his head from side to side.
“Absolutely not! I don’t want to become like him!”
“Right? So don’t learn those kinds of things.”
The boy seemed genuinely moved by my heartfelt advice, which would surely become the flesh of his flesh and blood of his blood, and clenched his fists tightly.
“You! You’re pretty amazing. You’re the first person since Morocanil to openly insult Dazar like this!”
“Yes, indeed. Amazing!”
As the two of them spoke with sparkling eyes, I suddenly realized something.
‘Huh.’
These two knew Dazar and Morocanil far too naturally.
And besides……
‘B-But Dazar received greetings from me every day for ten years after I became a Transcendent…….’
These two people…… could they possibly be……?
“Um, by the way, are you two Transcendents?”
“Huh?”
The two tilted their heads simultaneously.
They looked as though they couldn’t understand how there could possibly be anyone who didn’t know them.
“Yes. I’m Eishu. And the person who speaks strangely here is Kora.”
What?!
“We are among the Transcendents currently existing on this continent…… four, no. Including Vanilla, there are five now?”
The boy raised one hand and counted the numbers on his fingers before straightening his shoulders and continuing.
“I’m one of those five.”
He pointed at himself with his index finger, then pointed at the woman beside him.
“And another one is Kora.”
“Nice to meet you.”
The woman waved with her usual dazed expression.
I waved back as well and thought,
‘Were Transcendents always this common? Somehow, it feels like I’ve ended up meeting all of them.’
Come to think of it, this boy had appeared in the original novel.
And not just as some minor character.
He was one of the people who tried to kill Axion.
