I’m the Future Crazy Male Lead’s Mother Chapter 37
The woman who had asked me to call her the Saintess had a rather unusual appearance.
Her hair, which fell all the way down to her hips, was pure white, and her eyes were white as well. Even her pupils were white, making it difficult to tell where exactly she was looking.
She looks quite unusual.
Her appearance was so distinctive that I kept finding my eyes drawn to her, but staring too much would be rude, so I sat in the soft chair prepared opposite her, just as she had instructed.
Perhaps she had prepared it beforehand, because there was even a cradle beside the chair where I could lay Axion down.
Hmm. So, should I introduce myself first?
“Uh, hello.”
At my awkward greeting, the Saintess smiled brightly.
“Yes. It’s nice to meet you. You were surprised when I addressed you so familiarly all of a sudden, weren’t you? I suppose I’ve heard so much about you that I unconsciously felt close to you.”
Hmm.
She’s heard about me.
Remembering this body’s infamous reputation, I awkwardly pulled the corners of my lips upward.
Haha. I’m sure you heard some truly delightful stories.
“Oh, I see.”
“Yes. Didn’t Elston tell you?”
“Huh?”
Why was Elston suddenly being mentioned here?
As I blinked my round eyes and tilted my head, the Saintess gave me a gentle smile.
“Oh my, oh my. It seems Elston didn’t tell you anything about me.”
“Um… Are you acquainted with Elston?”
The Saintess nodded slightly.
“He’s a dear friend who brings me news of the outside world since I cannot leave this place. I also heard that he had begun teaching the young lady of the Siaster family.”
That incompetent Tower Master and… this mysterious Saintess are friends?
It was a little—or rather, quite—hard to believe.
Still, I nodded for the moment.
“Ah, I see. So you’re friends.”
“It was my first time seeing Elston so flustered over someone, so I had been looking forward to meeting you. I’m glad I finally get to see you like this.”
“Haha…”
I didn’t know exactly what Elston had muttered about me, but it was easy enough to guess that it probably wasn’t anything flattering.
Hmm. So when Elston came and told me not to mention the Dragon Heart of the Demon Dragon, he meant I shouldn’t tell the Saintess.
They might be friends, but apparently they didn’t share everything with each other.
“By the way, who is this child who came with you today? Since you have never been married, Lady Evanroar, he couldn’t possibly be your son…”
“Ah.”
Since Axion’s adoption wasn’t supposed to be officially known yet, I answered carefully.
“He’s a child who carries the bloodline of House Evanroar.”
“Oh my.”
I deliberately kept my answer vague, without clearly saying whether he was my child or not.
The Saintess seemed quite perceptive, because she immediately understood what I meant.
“I’ve heard that the members of House Evanroar have blonde hair and blue eyes. Then I imagine this child must have beautiful coloring as well.”
Huh?
She had me and Axion right in front of her.
For her to say something like that meant…
“Ah. I cannot see.”
The Saintess gave a casual laugh and waved her hand slightly.
“Please don’t feel uncomfortable about it.”
Come to think of it, the Saintess’s body was subtly turned away from me. Almost as though she were speaking to where I was standing rather than looking directly at me.
I hadn’t noticed because her entire eyes appeared white.
So that’s why even her pupils are white.
I quickly replayed my actions in my mind, wondering if I had done anything that might have seemed rude.
The Saintess, however, casually spoke again.
“I shouldn’t keep you here any longer, so shall we begin?”
“Oh, yes.”
The Saintess gently smiled and held out her hand.
“If you don’t mind, could you place your forehead against my hand? I’m going to remove the traces of demonic energy remaining in your body.”
I slowly did as she instructed, pressing my forehead against her hand.
Her hand was colder than I expected.
“Since the child might be frightened, please cover his eyes.”
I obediently followed her instructions.
Axion, who had been playing with his own feet, shook his head from side to side when his vision was suddenly blocked.
“Uaa?”
“Shh. Let’s wait just a little.”
Once I covered Axion’s eyes, the Saintess opened her lips as though she were saying something.
“?”
But I couldn’t hear a sound.
She had definitely said something.
At the same time, an incredibly bright light spread from her hand. It filled the room, becoming so dazzling that I wondered if my eyes might actually be blinded.
“All done.”
The moment the Saintess finished speaking, the light disappeared as though it had never existed.
“Dazar said you would have traces of demonic energy on you, but there’s nothing at all. I suppose you came just in case.”
“Is… is that so?”
I had spent the entire day watching monsters explode right before my eyes.
And yet there wasn’t a trace of demonic energy on my body?
Is this because of this body’s strange constitution too?
I looked down at myself somewhat suspiciously.
Then the Saintess held out her hand again.
“Now, could you place the child’s forehead against my hand?”
I lifted Axion into my arms with a slightly tense expression.
What if something happens to his Dragon Heart? What if the Saintess notices it?
Contrary to my worries, however, the Saintess’s work(?) ended without any problems.
“It seems you actually came because of the child. There was a little demonic energy on him, but thankfully, it has all been removed.”
“Oh, thank you.”
There had been demonic energy on Axion.
And she had removed it.
That was a huge relief.
Thinking that I had made the right decision by bringing Axion along, I bowed my head deeply toward the Saintess.
When I glanced at Axion, his face looked perfectly peaceful.
It seemed she hadn’t noticed the Dragon Heart of the Demon Dragon, nor had there been any strange side effects.
What a relief.
“It’s a shame I have to send you away like this. Could you come again with Elston next time? I’d like to serve you some tea then.”
The Saintess looked genuinely disappointed.
Seeing her clasp her hands together with such a pleading expression, I couldn’t bring myself to simply refuse.
“I’ll come when I have some free time.”
This body seemed to have some sort of allergy to the temple, but now that I was actually here, there wasn’t anything particularly frightening about it.
I thought the temple was supposed to be a terrifying place. Maybe it isn’t after all.
At my answer, the Saintess nodded happily.
“Thank you, Lady Evanroar. Ah, if you don’t mind… may I call you by your name?”
“My name?”
I had been about to stand up in relief now that everything was over, but I paused.
“W-Would that be a little rude?”
The Saintess hunched her shoulders and lowered her head.
Hey, hey. Don’t look so timid. You’re going to make this big sister go soft.
“It’s fine. You can call me by my name.”
“Really? Thank you, Cilia!”
The Saintess broke into a radiant smile.
Seeing her smile like that, I finally realized that the Saintess was still quite young.
Her unusual appearance and mysterious atmosphere had made me forget, but she was still just a girl.
“Then you absolutely have to come again next time! Promise!”
“Yes. I understand.”
After sealing our promise with a firm thumbprint, I left the room.
“Phew. Then I guess I’ll wait outside for a while?”
Dazar said he had some more business to attend to at the temple.
We had agreed to meet outside the temple afterward.
I hugged Axion and began walking while humming a little song.
***
Click.
The door closed.
The happy expression that had been on the Saintess’s face only moments ago gradually disappeared, leaving her completely expressionless.
“Hmmm. Dazar brought her into his residence, so I was curious what kind of person she was. She’s more ordinary than I expected.”
The innocent Saintess whom I had thought to be a young girl was nowhere to be found.
In an instant, the Saintess’s face became as bored and world-weary as that of a woman who had experienced every hardship imaginable.
She leaned back in her chair as though she were already tired of everything.
“She’s just ordinary.”
The Saintess casually rested her chin on her hand and swung her legs.
“Just as Elston said, that child definitely isn’t Dazar’s blood. I deliberately had Elston send the baby here too, just in case.”
In fact, while blessing Axion, the Saintess had also placed another spell on him.
She had done so to determine whether he was of Dazar’s blood—in other words, whether he was a Transcendent.
Dazar seemed to care greatly for the child, judging by the various protective barriers he had placed around him.
But the child was not a descendant of a Transcendent.
The Saintess waved her hand.
Far away, a piece of paper and a pen sitting on the desk began to move.
They were magical tools Elston had made for her in the past so that she could write despite being unable to see.
The pen began smoothly writing letters according to her will.
It was a letter to Elston.
“Still, something feels off. Even if it’s for food development, that Dazar brought two people into his home. And those protective barriers are strange too.”
The prophecy of a new Transcendent had already been received, so Vanilla’s adoption as Dazar’s daughter was a natural development.
But bringing an unrelated woman and child into his home around the same time was undoubtedly strange.
The Saintess tilted her head with an expressionless face.
“Surely they haven’t fallen for each other.”
Dazar, who hated that woman?
There’s no way.
The Saintess shook her head vigorously and snapped her fingers.
The pen that had been writing on its own suddenly lost its strength with a thud, and the letter folded itself.
If left like this, a priest would send it to Elston on her behalf.
“There’s something going on.”
The Saintess murmured quietly.
“There’s definitely something.”
