I followed him, a smile tugging at the corners of my lips.

“That’s very kind of you, but I like it just the way it is. Do you see that blond-haired boy over there?” (Leen)

I pointed out the window at Luca, and his gaze shifted in that direction.

“He’s my little cousin, but he’s more like a brother to me. I have an aunt and other relatives, so I’m not lonely enough to want to be adopted.” (Leen)

The man nodded slowly at my honesty about my current thoughts.

“I see. Well, I understand your feelings. If you change your mind at any time, just tell me.”

“And make sure you get your wife’s permission before you make a big decision like this.” (Leen)

“…I’ll keep that in mind.”

With that, he stood up from his seat.

He looked like he was going to leave at any moment, so I quickly grabbed his sleeve.

“You’re leaving when the food hasn’t even been served yet? We haven’t even talked about your wife yet.” (Leen)

“I came here today to talk about the adoption. I’ve heard your side of the story, so I don’t need to spend more time on it.”

“Why don’t you stay and talk to her for a while longer?” (Leen)

I was sorry to part ways with him so soon. I wanted to hear his wife’s story, too.

He stroked my head nonchalantly and replied.

“Don’t worry about the bill, just go eat with your family.”

“What? No, I…!” (Leen)

“Then I’ll send you a letter another time.”

Poof—!

The man vanished in an instant with his magic. What a mysterious man.

“Sister, you need to cut back on that nonsense. Do you understand?”

“Yeah, I get it.” (Leen)

I listened to Luca’s nagging for dozens of minutes, halfway to the end.

I want to, but I know I shouldn’t. If I ignore him, maybe it’s something that keeps me awake at night.

“What if he’s a bad person? What if he’s a scumbag who wants to do something to you? What if he’s a human trafficker?”

“He’s not like that.” (Leen)

“You said you don’t even know who he is!”

“Well, given that he is a nobleman, I’m guessing he does some sort of work for the country or the estate.”

“Sister!” (Leen)

I checked my ear to see if it was bleeding. It was fine.

“Did you plug your ears because you don’t want to hear me nagging you?”

“No, I just wanted to make sure my eardrum didn’t burst.” (Leen)

…It’s kind of true that I don’t want to hear the nagging.

“Why do you say things like that without thinking about the people who are worried?”

“You’ve already eaten a good meal, so what’s wrong with you?” (Leen)

“I wouldn’t have eaten it if it hadn’t been bought by that guy!”

“I’m sorry.” (Leen)

I pinched Luca’s cheeks.

By now, I’d been nagged for dozens of minutes and had become disingenuous in my responses, but I was fully aware of my mistake.

I knew that Luca was worried.

I would have also rolled my eyes if he told me he was giving relationship advice to some lady.

“Okay, I’m going to change my attitude 360 degrees.” (Leen)

“Really?”

Luca crossed his arms tightly and shook his head.

“Ugh. You’re lucky I stopped by the mall instead of going straight to the dorms. What would you have done if I hadn’t seen you, huh?”

“Yeah, yeah. I’m glad I have Luca.” (Leen)

I yawned and gave him a curt response.

I wonder if Luca still hasn’t noticed. A 360-degree turn, and I’m back in place.

Looking at Luca with a wistful gaze, thinking, ‘You’re not quite there yet, kid.’

After staring at me for a long time, Luca suddenly asked a childish question.

“If my sister asked to sell me for a couple of shoes, you’d hand me over right away, wouldn’t you?” (Luca)

“Don’t be ridiculous, Luca. You know how much I like you, and if you asked me to choose between a shoe and you, I’d choose the shoe without a second thought.” (Leen)

“Shouldn’t you at least pretend to think about it?” (Luca)

Luca glared at me, his eyes squinting. Oh, no. He’s not falling for it this time.

Chuckling, I patted him on the back.

“You do realize I’m joking, right?” (Leen)

“I don’t know!” (Luca)

And just like that, Luca and I were walking hand-in-hand, and before I knew it, we were right in front of the Academy building.

Luca stopped and waved goodbye. He insisted on walking me here in the first place.

“I’ll head back to the dorms then, sister. I don’t know what you’re doing in the clubroom, but don’t stay out too late.” (Luca)

“Okay.”

“You’re not going to give me a lame answer again, are you?” (Luca)

“Oh, gosh. How did you know?” (Leen)

I smirked at his rising eyebrows. Then, as if on cue, I quickly pressed my lips to Luca’s cheek and pulled away.

“Bye. Next time we meet in the hallway, just say hi!” (Leen)

“I don’t need to say hi.”

Luca rubbed the spot where I’d kissed him.

Then it happened.

In an instant, the mana concentration around me thickened, and a loud ripple came from somewhere.

Swoosh—

“What’s going on?”

My skin tingled from the thickening mana. Was there a mana surge around here?

Nope. There was no indication of an explosion yet, so this must be a premonition.
