The Returning Husband Refuses to Divorce

His wife had died.

Zecard Evanhardt couldn’t believe it was true. Desperate, he prayed to God to save his wife and was sent back in time. However, as the price for his wish, his wife, Ines, lost her love for him.

After returning to the past, Ines decided to put an end to the life she had lived as a duchess in name only. Even though she had nowhere else to go, having been cast out of the temple because her divine power was far inferior to that of her younger sister, Elise.

‘As soon as he arrives, I’ll tell him I want a divorce.’

And so, Ines proposed a divorce. But Zecard refused, and instead began treating her even more kindly…?

“I apologize for leaving you lonely for so long, my wife. Now, let me fulfill my duties as your husband.”

“Pardon?”

Ines had been relaxing, certain that he would naturally give her the answer she wanted, but she was taken aback. However, Zecard gritted his teeth and spoke as though he were desperately suppressing his anger.

“Are you saying that you don’t truly want a divorce, and that you only brought it up deliberately to protest the nasty rumors about the Saintess and me?”

“…Pardon? No?”

Startled by his frightening expression, Ines hurriedly tried to explain herself.

“Of course not. How could I ever dare to do such a thing? I’m only a fake wife, aren’t I?”

Why was he angry? Ines was bewildered.

“I meant every word I said. I wish Zecard and Elise happiness in their future together. That’s why I prepared the divorce papers in advance.”

Zecard silently glared at the divorce papers in his hand. He was gripping them so tightly that the paper had become badly crumpled.

“Ah, so you don’t care who I live with, and you’re telling me to live with another woman instead of you?”

“…That’s not quite what I meant, but if we’re only looking at the conclusion, then I suppose that’s what I’m saying.”

Zecard let out a hollow laugh, as though he couldn’t believe what he was hearing.

“Ha.”

Then Zecard lifted his head and looked at Ines. His eyes were filled with resentment and a deep sense of injustice. …Why?
