  1. Let’s build a hotel

For your information, a few days before the goblin arrived, I started preparing a lot of things that the goblin would like.

As a result of searching through national encyclopedias and researching papers, I found that goblins like mostly games.

So I bought a lot of games that goblins would like.

To win the goblin’s favor or make a bet and get the answer I want from the goblin.

What kind of person is Merlin Gray… No, have you ever heard anything about whether it was a reptile?

Have you ever met Hunter Moon Heeyoung, who is said to be a returnee from another world?

Yeah.

I was going to ask those things…

“How is it? This face. I quite liked it.”

It seems like what I’m asking has changed.

Instead of greeting the guest politely, I immediately grabbed the goblin by the collar and asked.

“What are you…Where did you see this face?”

“Where? Hmm… You seem very curious about that.”

The goblin grinned.

That smiling face… Because it sounded so much like the way my dad laughed, I let go of his collar without realizing it.

The wrinkles around his eyes, the curling of his lips, and the warmth I feel in his eyes.

It’s so similar.

It was a time when I was lost in sentimentality.

Someone ran towards me.

I panicked and tried to escape, but was relieved to see the other person’s hand being pushed back before it could reach me.

‘Force was prohibited inside the hotel.’

The person who tried to use force was a scholar who was standing and holding a lantern.

He was pushed back and glared at me as he barely got his balance back.

“How dare a human being attack Bihyeong? You must be crazy, huh?”

Bihyeong…

If it’s Bihyeong, I looked it up in the dictionary, and it says it’s a half-ghost and half-human being who knows how to control goblins?

So the king of the goblins was Bihyeong?

“Boss!”

“How dare you do this to our boss!”

Surprised spirits ran towards me. Lim Sehwan even took out a weapon from the pop-up store and ran with it.

“I’m okay.”

“We can’t do this! We need to get these goblins out right now! We don’t need guests being so rude!”

Toto shouted in anger.

At that time, Bihyeong patted the shoulder of the scholar, who was glaring at me and said,

“Oho, Gildal. I didn’t come here to fight.”

Gildal?

I’ve also heard the name Gildal.

Where did I hear that…

“Don’t be like that. With such a scary glare, the heart of this goblin will not remain behind. Anyway, is there anything like a checkerboard in this tavern? It would be nice to play Go against someone other than Gildal after a long time.”

“Guest, is it time to find the checkerboard?!”

The manager glared at Bihyeong as if she were dumbfounded. I stopped the manager.

“I grabbed his collar first…”

Why is everyone like this?

“S, still, you shouldn’t attack the boss!”

Bihyeong laughed, fixed the hem of his robe, and showed his dissatisfaction after hearing what the manager said.

“Yeah. That’s why… Are you saying you want us to go out? And the owner of this tavern, too?”

Bihyeong gently turned his head toward me.

Have I ever seen my dad look so mean?

While I was dumbfounded, Bihyeong spoke.

“Okay then. I guess we’ll just have to get out of here. Let’s go. Gildal! Light the way!”

“Yes, Bihyeong-nim.”

It was the moment when Gildal and Bihyeong were about to leave.

I quickly caught the two people.

“Wait!”

“….?”

Bihyeong smiled slyly and looked back.

“I want to ask you something.”

Bihyeong shook his head at my words.

“Ahem… I am not one to answer questions so easily.  Even if I lost my world to you, I am still the king of goblins. Son of the King of Humans. There is no reason for me to give you an easy answer.”

I thought it would come out like this.

Maybe he prepared it in advance, knowing that that face is the one that will stimulate me the most.

How on earth…?

My mind was complicated, but even if I thought more, there was a limit to what I could come out of.

I need to listen to that guy.

How does that guy know my Dad?

To do this, I needed to lure the goblin with what the goblin desired the most.

That’s…playing.

I took out the card I had prepared as I saw the goblin’s eyes shining with greed.

“Then let’s play. You paid the bet before, but this time I’ll pay the bet. Instead, the rules will be fair, so would you like to try it?”

When I said it, a bright smile spread across the goblin’s face.

I thought as I looked at his smile.

This guy… is definitely not my dad.

My dad doesn’t smile so slyly.

* * *

I took Bihyeong and Gildal to the banquet hall.

The banquet hall’s interior was slightly changed, with folding screens surrounding both sides except the entrance and screen wall, with tables, chairs, and a bar hidden behind it.

So there was a large space in the center with soft lighting, and in that space was a huge board.

“…Is this a ssireum ring?” (t/n : Ssireum ring is like a wrestling arena.)

Bihyeong looked around the floor of the banquet hall with his eyes shining like a child.

These letters were written on the floor of the banquet hall.

<Departure>

<Downtown>

<Toll>

<Challenge>

<Riddle>

While Bihyeong was tilting his head, Gildal stood at the entrance with an indifferent expression and spoke to Bihyeong.

“Let’s just go back. Anyway, isn’t it a trip that the king didn’t even allow? The best way to avoid getting mixed up with these arrogant people is to leave early and avoid being picked on.”

“If you really want to go back, go back alone.”

“…Bihyeong-nim.”

Bihyeong raised his head and smiled coolly at Gildal.

My Dad’s face, wearing a durumagi and even a hat, didn’t look like Dad at all.

“Why? Were you afraid that if you went back without me, you would be in prison again?”

“….”

Gildal closed his mouth at those words.

I stepped in after listening to the conversation between the two.

“This is not a ssireum ring; it’s called a board game.”

Now it’s my turn to explain.

“Board game?”

Bihyeong tilted his head.

“I think it will be easier to understand if you think of it as something like Yutnori.”

Isn’t Yutnori a Korean board game?

“So this is where you talk?”

Fortunately, Bihyeong understood the words quite well.

“Yes, that’s right. And this is Yut.”

I glanced at Geumdong.

Geumdong brought dice that were about the size of a delivery box, which is much bigger than ordinary dice.

Bihyeong said this after seeing the dice.

“That’s Juryeonggu.”

Juryeonggu?

Ah. Come to think of it, they said there were dice in the Orient.

Then the story will go faster.

The game I prepared today was <Let’s Build a Hotel>, a type of board game.

First of all, this game has virtual currency.

Instead of the paper bills that were used in the original board game, old coins that goblins knew were used as currency.

There are two places you can go by throwing the dice. Specific lands, such as ‘beach’ and ‘downtown’, and mission locations marked ‘Challenge, Riddle’.

First, the first person to arrive at a specific land can pay to build a hotel there.

If you build a hotel, you can get accommodation fees from people who pass through the land.

But when you get to the mission location, you have to do the mission that’s written there.

This is a game where the person who wastes money on accommodations loses.

I picked this game because it’s fair, since a lot of it relies on luck. It also takes a long time to play, even though it looks simple.

I think it’s fair and requires a long play time to satisfy the goblins.

‘I never thought I would use this like this.’

I was feeling sick to my stomach.

Because this game…is really fair.

If I had known this was going to happen, I would have picked a game that was more advantageous to me.

Or choose a game with more variables.

The only variable in this game is the mission location…

I don’t know how much of a variable that will be.

It was when I was making an ambiguous expression.

Bihyeong approached me with a bright smile after hearing the game’s explanation..

“It looks like a lot of fun to play. I want to do it. However…”

Of course, I could guess what he was going to say next.

“Play always comes with a price.”

This guy.

Because he is the kind of person who has to bet on everything.

“I guess what you want is to hear about the one with this face, right?”

Bihyeong smiled brightly and pointed to his face.

It’s even more annoying because he’s doing that with my Dad’s face.

“…Yes. That’s right. Please tell me everything you know.”

“Yeah. It’s probably a story worth hearing.”

They said goblins can’t lie, so I believe this.

“Then, if you lose, you also have to give in to what I want.”

“…Okay. What do you want?”

When I said those words, Bihyeong laughed and spread a fan out, showing only his eyes. They were curved like old moons.

“I want this.”

“…Yes?”

Bihyeong folded his fan, making a sound, and pointed to the ground where he was standing with the folded fan.

“This tavern called a hotel. I want this, young man.”
