It was just made up to make Rakrensius feel a little sorry, but she wasn’t really kicked out.

The truth is I’m busy running away with my maids.

Selleana had taken refuge in a building in the capital owned by Rosalli. She had taken all her maids with her and informed the butler of her destination, making it more of a luxurious vacation than a runaway. The building was perfect for Selleana’s grand escape.

After selling her gold and accessories, Rosalli had invested all the funds in Doloret’s business, which had grown significantly. She used the profits to build a five-story building in a prime location in the capital. The first three floors housed high-end boutiques and top-class restaurants, the fourth floor was a salon for socialites, and the fifth floor consisted of luxury apartments for rent to noble families from the countryside. The monthly rental income alone was a staggering fifty million reot.

Selleana’s ‘runaway’ to this famous building was to widely publicize that she was in discord with Elard, to the extent of running away – a move to fuel public opinion that she was unsuitable as the crown prince’s wife.

Selleana used the conservative atmosphere of Nepelsian society to her advantage. She wasn’t about to share this calculation with Rakrensius. She just kept up a pitiful façade to win his sympathy.

Aah, I may be from Elard, but I can’t stay at a friend’s house forever…”

“Then it must be Lady Glen.”

Puff. Selleana almost spewed out the iced tea as his correct guess.

“Famous friends of the Lady are Lady Benichi and Lady Glen, along with Agnesia, the priestess of Orot…”

“You’re very interested in me, aren’t you?” Selleana dabbed her mouth with a handkerchief Michi handed her, responding incredulously.

“The lark of Elard is so well-known as the crown prince’s potential wife, so there is no information that cannot be known.”

“Can’t you say I’m famous on my own, not as the crown prince’s potential wife?”

“How about saying you became famous for rejecting the position of the crown princess?”

“…I can’t be with you, really.” Selleana pursed her lips. “Can I take the fact that you are so interested in me to mean that you are considering my proposal positively?”

“Not at all.”

Ugh, really…!”

Selleana handed the handkerchief back to Michi and strode towards Rakrensius. Bang! With such force that it seemed the sound would echo, she leaned on the heavy desk.

“Master of the Tower, I’m really desperate.”

“I’m well aware of your desperation and that it’s not impulsive.” Rakrensius leaned back in his chair, distancing himself as much as possible.

“What I offer. Solidifying the crown prince’s foundation. It’s a public interest matter beneficial for both the Master of Tower and Nepelsian, right?”

“Finding that man does not align with the public interest.”

“Then give me back that note from the last time!”

Rakrensius’s blue eyes rolled away awkwardly. Every wizard in the empire is registered with the magic tower, so there was no chance the second-class confidential magic would activate outside his jurisdiction. Still, Selleana might use some ingenious method with it, even a handwriting comparison…

Oh no.  Realizing this, his eyes caught sight of a stack of documents near Selleana’s hand. The same documents he had just been writing notes on by hand.

This can’t happen. If he reached out carelessly and drew attention, he’d be exposed. Using magic would arouse suspicion.

Rakrensius leaned on the desk, trying to divert her attention with another topic. “Well, isn’t there… going to be a banquet soon?”

Resting his chin on his arm covering the documents… it perfectly hid the papers, but he ended up too close to her. Too close… He thought the action was out of context, feeling his face heat up under the hood.

Selleana was equally surprised, unable to do anything but blink. Is he taking revenge on me for all the awkward moments?

The two looked at each other in silence, and it continued for a long time.

“Oh my, Master of Tower.”

Selleana finally broke the silence.

“Did you realize what I want?”

“Yes?”

“That’s right, the celebration banquet is the perfect timing.”

“What do you mean…?”

“I won’t participate in the selection for the crown princess because I’ve met a man worth rejecting the position for. So…”

Selleana’s face lit up brilliantly, so dazzling that Rakrensius was glad his monocle shielded one of his eyes.

“That means…”

“Yes. Going to the celebration with Collin would be perfect.”

Selleana leaned in closer to him. “Therefore… can you please accept my offer?”

This angel, increasingly… He swallowed his inexpressible frustration and stealthily distanced himself. He managed to naturally pull along the stack of documents with him. However, he could do nothing about his wildly pounding heart.

“Master of the Tower, are you listening?”

Selleana started pouring out words, regardless of what Rakrensius did with the documents. In reality, her heart was also beating strangely.

“Everyone saw me guiding him during the victory festival masquerade ball. So, they might have noticed that we had good chemistry. And the celebration banquet is where all those people will gather again.”

In the meantime, Rakrensius managed to sweep all the documents containing his handwriting into a drawer.

“Did you hear me, right?”

Unaware of the bomb Rakrensius had just disposed of, Selleana was upset that he wasn’t paying attention to her words.

As she spoke petulantly and removed her hands from the desk to stand up, he said, “Everyone will probably hardly remember that. Here, take this.”

As if searching in the drawer was his purpose, Rakrensius pulled out a flat leather pouch.

“What is this?”

“It’s an alarm scroll. It’s a prototype, but it makes enough noise to keep the city guard running. You’re the Elard’s lark, so you might be surrounded by guards, but just in case…”

And also… Rakrensius nonchalantly spoke while searching more vigorously through the desk drawer. He had opened any drawer to hide the documents, and it just so happened to contain various scrolls. Perhaps this would not seem like mere nonsense.

“This is a light magic that temporarily incapacitates the opponent’s vision, and this is a one-time defensive spell against physical attacks. Well, it’s better not to have to use them… Do you know how to use them?”

“Yes, by tearing it down the middle… But why this?”

Selleana blinked as she received each pouch Rakrensius casually handed over. Her plentiful, long eyelashes fluttered so elegantly that Rakrensius struggled not to be enchanted and replied.

“It’s… gift for running away from home.”

“Thank you…?”

“I can give you as many of these as you want, so rather than such unreasonable requests…”

“…Why?”

“Yes?”

“Why can you give me as many of these as I want?”

Rakrensius was taken aback by Selleana’s sharp question. Well, he was prepared to do anything for the angel except reveal his identity. But he couldn’t dare to voice such sincerity. He had secretly harbored feelings for the angel for a very long time, but to her, he was just a business partner she had coincidentally come to know through this affair. This enormous imbalance was something only he should know.

“Well, they are all prototypes anyway…”

“Isn’t it easier to just close your eyes and use the detection magic once instead of this? These can be sold for money!” Selleana waved the scroll pouches at him as if to nag him.

Sigh. No matter what he said, it always came back to the detection magic… Rakrensius waved his hand to dismiss this harmful woman. “…So, let’s call it a day for today. Tomorrow I will really make sure you can’t enter through the main gate.”

“Oh my, do you think I’m coming tomorrow too? I might be too busy with the celebration preparations to come.”

“Yes, I’d be more thankful if you don’t come…”

“Of course, I have to come with that guy to the birthday banquet, so I’m going to seduce the Master of the Tower.”

“Please, stop saying you’re seducing me…”

Selleana, having put on the hat handed to her by Michi in a stylish manner, smiled sweetly. “And Fel, I think he might become closer to me than the Master of the Tower, right?”

Fel is the name of the captain guarding the main gate of the magic tower.

…Did she already become so close with him?
