When Yeon-young picked up Jaeho’s card key, the faint energy embedded in it flowed into her.

She instinctively recognized it as Jaeho’s memory and focused on it.

As her vision cleared the darkness in front of her, she saw a man talking to Jaeho.

He had the appearance of Jaeho before he grew up. It seemed like a very old memory.

“Who is he?”

She breathed, her brow furrowed.

The man’s spirit slowly revealed itself beyond the blue light.

A man with a soft smile on his face, staring at Jaeho with interest. It was Daeheon Lee.

Daeheon sat haphazardly on the desk in the lab, his butt pressed against it.

In his hand, he held a piece of snarl.

“Senior, if we hold hands, we’ll change the world, it’s like blinking an eye.”

“You called me here to donate a soul shard, that’s bullshit.”

“First of all, this is a gift.”

Daeheon cheerfully handed over the snarl shard in his hand.

Jaeho took the snarl shard despite his stern face.

Daeheon glanced at Jaeho, whose eyes were fixed on the piece of snarl, then reached out and grabbed his right earlobe hard.

Jaeho roughly pushed Daeheon away from him, and when that didn’t work, he choked him to death.

Daeheon’s back hit the wall and his things fell to the floor.

Despite being squeezed so hard that his neck was transparent, Daeheon laughed like a child.

His eyes lit up like a child discovering a new toy.

“Did it turn?”

“See? You’re just like me. I can see…, can’t you?”

“Shut up. I’m just going to tear you apart right here.”

Jaeho tightened his grip on Daeheon’s neck.

Daeheon’s brow furrowed in slight discomfort. He let out a short breath and continued.

“I’m the same way. Get out of my way.”

“Are you crazy?”

Daeheon turned away from Jaeho and stared at his feet. Jaeho’s gaze followed his, and his hands gradually lost their grip.

Letting out a dry cough, Daeheon reached out and grabbed his right pants, pulling them up until his ankles were clearly visible.

The violet core on his right ankle glowed with blackened corruption.

“See? I’m sure you’d recognize it right away.”

“…….”

“You create a world where Snarls like us can stand.”

“…You’re a Snarl too?”

At Daeheon’s words, Jaeho unconsciously cupped his right earlobe in his hand.

The piercing covered the core, but it didn’t hide the blackened aura.

Jaeho’s normally somber face brightened with curiosity, making his clear blue eyes seem even brighter.

His eyes lingered on the core of the Great Constitution for a very long time.

“Tanato is such a narrow-minded world right now, so focused on killing Snarl that they don’t even realize beings like us exist.”

“So?”

“I’m thinking of recreating this world, making all souls Snarls like us.”

“Turn every soul into a Snarl…”

“With your skills, it’s perfect, so I want you to work on this project with me. I’m sure it’ll be worthwhile.”

“Ha-ha.”

Jaeho was genuinely enjoying his offer.

Noticing Jaeho’s state, Daeheon cleared his throat and tensed.

He was nervous because he didn’t know where his laughter would go. For the first time, the relaxation left Daeheon’s face.

Jaeho fingered his earlobe and stared at the piece of snarl, then thought back to Daeheon’s words.

“All souls to Snarl.”

“At this rate, it’s only a matter of time before we’re wiped out, too. We need to get revenge on the world that made us this way. Turning souls into Snarls is easier than you think. Wiping out the world she loved…”

“Sounds like fun.”

“What?”

“It looks like fun, so I’ll do it.”

Jaeho concluded, cutting off Daeheon’s words.

Yeon-young’s eyes widened when she heard his answer. Daeheon had a similar reaction to Yeon-young’s.

‘I can’t believe they’re deciding such an important matter just for fun.’

‘This is what Jung Jaeho used to be like.’

Yeon-young bit her lip, remembering the story Ryu Won had told her in the early days.

Jaeho shot a stream of water at Daeheon, who stood there, looking puzzled.

“So, how are you doing with that project?”

With that question, the memory faded.

Yeon-young shook her head from side to side, clutching at her sticky hair.

Zhaolin gently grabbed her shoulder.

“Are you sick?”

“…Jung Jaeho must have done something to me.”

“What did you see?”

“He was talking to Lee Daeheon about some project, something about turning all souls into Snarls… I’m pretty sure it had something to do with Negro.”

“Well, judging by the state of the room right now, it’s pretty clear that Jung Jaeho is a spy.”

Zhaolin glanced at the unrecognizable symbols covering the walls.

Yeon-young checked her headache and looked at the haphazardly placed documents.

What started as Project 1 had grown to 8,000 documents. It was a lot of experimentation, a lot of variety.

The fusion of Snarl, Sly, and Phantoms was the main focus of the experiments.

Yeon-young checked the backmost document. Unlike the others, it had a sagging blue circle at the top.

“Water, brainwashing, and pure Sly power. Most effective method. Experiment successful. What is this?”

“Look at this.”

Zhaolin pointed to a drawing on the wall.

On the wall, there was a brief outline of each of the center buildings, with a U-shaped line encircling them.

Below the line were wavy markings.

It wasn’t clear from the drawing what this meant.

“What do you think it means?”

“I’ll have to do some more research to find out, but it’s clear that some kind of experiment to threaten this world has been somewhat successful.”

Yeon-young handed the papers she was looking at to Zhaolin and checked the wall again.

The date 9/18 was scrawled across the bottom of the picture in fine print.

It was hard to find unless you were looking carefully.

“What’s 9/18?”

“Isn’t it a date?”

“Wait, how far away is September 18?”

“It’s about three weeks away, why?”

“Because it’s written here, and I thought it might be related to something…”

“You found it.”

Zhaolin fiddled with her necklace and turned on the video. It looked like they were getting real-time evidence.

Yeon-young stepped back slightly so as not to interrupt her work. She thought for a moment.

Jung Jaeho was the hidden spy in Branch One, and he was a Snarl.

Yeon-young glanced at the bracelet on her wrist. He often did things that didn’t make sense as a spy.

She remembered the defensive abilities Jaeho had implanted in the bracelet. It had allowed her to escape the warehouse unharmed.

‘Was this a calculated move to avoid suspicion?’

‘Was Jaeho really a soul completely on Negro’s side?’

Suddenly, Jaeho’s good fortune of always being safe in the midst of the Snarls made sense.

When Zhaolin had finished gathering the evidence, she moved closer to Yeon-young.

“By the way, this room. Have you seen it before?”

“I don’t really remember, but I definitely saw it the last time I was here, because I came out of this room with a drink.”

Yeon-young felt a chill run down her spine even as she spoke.

She couldn’t imagine what would have happened to Yeon-young if she’d drank Jaeho’s drink that day.

Zhaolin dropped the necklace from her hand and stared at the entrance.

“I first learned of this room’s existence today.”

“Uh, really? You’ve never seen it before?”

“No, I’ve never seen it before, which is why it’s strange.”

“Like what?”

“Something about it doesn’t feel right. Isn’t it too flimsy that the door opens with just a key?”

“Ah…, yeah.”

Yeon-young also found it odd.

If she were Jung Jaeho, she would have hidden this room even more carefully, but it didn’t feel that way.

It was almost as if he had lured her here.

She recalled where she’d found the key. This naturally led to a question.

“What could Ryu Won  be?”

“Most likely, he’s a spy. After what happened, we can’t be sure there’s only one spy.”

“Do you think Jung Jaeho went back to the Negro lair on his own?”

“That’s also probabilistically likely.”

“Really…, it’s all a mess.”

“Can’t we just unravel it one by one from now on?”

At her sigh-like words, Jareem glared at Yeon-young.

He pushed open the closed door of the inner room. White light seeped into the darkened room.

“I’ll go after Jung Jae-ho, and you can keep an eye on Han Ryu Won.”

At those words, Yeon-young, replayed Ryu Won’s face in her mind as he lay unconscious.
