“Sure.”

Ryu Won didn’t hesitate to accept Yeon-young’s request. She stared at him with confusion in her eyes when he offered to let her read his memories.

He tilted his head slightly and gestured for her to pour him another drink.

“You didn’t even ask me which one?”

“I’m sure you have an idea.”

“You give it all away like that, knowing what I’m going to do with your memories.”

“How far does Ms. Yeon-young think I can go?”

“Do you mean Mr. Ryu Won? Um…”

“Even if you ask me to annihilate you, I can do it without regret.”

As soon as the word annihilation came out of his mouth, it was as if someone had pressed a sharp stone against her chest.

Yeon-young bit her lower lip tightly, feeling her vision go blurry. Her heartache was bad enough when he collapsed.

“I’m not asking you to do that, so don’t say that.”

“Oh, but please tell me that there’s nothing around you, Ms. Yeon-young, because I’d be jealous if you had to disappear and I’m the only one around.”

“I won’t. I won’t.”

Ryu Won could only smile at her harsh exclamation. Ryu Won scooped up a spoonful of rice and held it in front of her mouth.

When Yeon-young turned her head slightly to the left, the spoon followed the movement. When she turned her head the other way again, the same thing happened.

Eventually, Yeon-young opened her mouth and took the food he offered.

“Don’t worry, I’ll listen to anything you want, just eat first.”

Hearing his gentle voice, Yeon-young relaxed. Feeling her whole body lighten a little, she realized that she had been nervous without realizing it.

Mealtime passed peacefully. Yeon-young briefly relayed what had happened between his collapses.

Listening to her, Ryu Won was deep in thought at times.

After finishing their meal, Yeon-young and Ryu Won sat side by side on the couch. Contrary to Yeon-young’s expectation that they would have a full-blown conversation, he came out of the room with a cube.

“I have a gift for you.”

“What gift?”

He set the cube down on the table in front of the couch, pressed a button, and a video appeared in the air.

As soon as she saw the video, she knew immediately what it was. It was a movie from her favorite series.

She was disappointed that she hadn’t seen the movie, knowing only that it had been released the day she went down to find Idelia.

“Wow, this is a series that neither of us have seen.”

“I found it when I went to Branch 2. There’s…, there’s a lot of stuff there that you’d like.”

“I’d like to go there.”

“We’ll go to Branch 2 together when things are a little more organized.”

At his words, Yeon-young gave a small nod of her head. This was one more place in Tanato that she and Ryu Won had agreed to go to.

Ryu Won pulled her arm around him and pulled her into his arms. He buried his face in her neck. She flinched at his tickling breath on her back. She kept her eyes fixed on the video, concentrating.

“Did you and Sun Woo-jin watch this too?”

Ryu Won asked out of the blue after a while of watching the movie.

Yeon-young didn’t say anything for a moment, just rolled her eyes, then pursed her lips.

“If it’s Mr. Ryu Won who went to the movies with me, it’s probably not this movie.”

“I’m glad to hear that.”

“By the way, Mr. Ryu Won, just in case, it wasn’t you who cheated on me, was it?”

His hand twitched. Yeon-young leaned forward a little and looked back.

Ryu Won was staring at her in disbelief.

That look seemed to answer everything, and she felt a rush of embarrassment.

“I haven’t been stably possessing Sun Woojin’s body for a long time, so you might have that misconception, but it’s not me.”

“Well…, I didn’t think it was you either, and you weren’t there when I died.”

Hearing Ryu Won’s answer, which was still certain, felt like the slightest hint of reluctance disappeared completely.

The embarrassment in his eyes gradually faded away.

“It’s a pity that I couldn’t stay longer because I was discovered by a rookie.”

“Good thing it wasn’t Mr. Ryu Won.”

“If I were to cheat on you, I would destroy you by my own hand.”

“I told you not to say that.”

“Ms. Yeon-young, as I’ve always said, the soul is more fragile than you think.”

“…Yes, that’s true, and I realized it this time.”

“So if you want to get rid of Sun Woojin, just say so, because to me, that’s no more or less than chewing gum.”

“Just stay quiet. I don’t even care about Sun Woojin anymore.”

He let out a flirtatious laugh, and silence fell between them again. Time passed quickly.

The movie was racing toward its climax, but Yeon-young couldn’t focus on it. She wanted to finish the conversation she hadn’t finished at the dinner table.

It seemed that Ryu Won felt the same way. Since the movie started, Ryu Won’s hand hadn’t left her waist, not even once.

She leaned her head against his chest and breathed out.

“Ryu Won, are you watching a movie?”

“Yes, I’m watching it. What’s wrong, aren’t you enjoying it?”

“No, not that… I’m just thinking about the story I didn’t finish earlier.”

Ryu Won let out a slow breath at her short answer. The hand that had been resting on Yeon-young’s stomach for so long finally fell away.

Ryu Won seemed to have finished organizing his thoughts.

“So, let’s start with what we were talking about earlier. There was a spy in the center, and it turned out to be Jung Jaeho. Isn’t that right?”

“That’s right.”

“Then you found a key in my study that allowed you to open his lab.”

“…I know it’s too late now, but I apologize for trespassing in your study.”

“You don’t need to apologize, I told you this house belongs to you, there’s no such thing as a room in this house that you can’t enter.”

Ryu Won fiddled with the ring on his ring finger, lost in thought again. Noticing the movement, Yeon-young turned her attention back to the movie. The movie had passed its climax and was now approaching its conclusion.

At that moment, Yeon-young flinched once, hard. The male lead in the movie was dead. Ryu Won’s warm hand patted her stomach in surprise.

The world was at peace, but only because of the hero’s sacrifice.

“The main character died.”

“That’s right, he died like that.”

“Is there going to be a sequel to this? I’m going to get a lot of flack.”

“I’m curious, so maybe we can watch it together when it comes out.”

Yeon-young stared at the back of the screen, at the lone female protagonist.

As the end credits rolled, she stood up from her seat. Ryu Won turned off the cube.

Silence filled the living room. He felt like he was walking in a dream and was pulled back to reality.

He followed Yeon-young to her seat.

“This is going to be a long story, so why don’t we go to the study? I have something to show you.”

“The one I went to?”

“Yes.”

Ryu Won turned on his heel and headed for the study where Yeon-Young had stopped by last time.

When she saw his hand on the doorknob, she tried to hide her nervousness. The room hadn’t changed much from the last time she’d been there.

‘What is he showing me?’

Ryu Won opened the bottom drawer and pulled out a black mask. He fiddled with its surface and held it out to Yeon-young.

Yeon-young stared at it blankly.

“Ms. Yeon-young, how are your abilities these days?”

“Abilities? I think I’ve definitely increased the number of things I can read if I concentrate well, and I can even see through things if I have the right energy…”

“Good, then take this first.”

Yeon-young took the mask in his hand. The moment she took it, she noticed an aura she hadn’t been able to read before.

When she looked at Ryu Won in surprise, he shrugged.

“First, let me give you the answer you want, Ms. Yeon-young, I’m not a spy.”

“Good…”

Yeon-young was genuinely relieved, it was what she wanted to hear from his mouth.

“If I can read your memories with the aura on them, that should be enough to exonerate you.”

“Yes.”

“But I don’t want any misunderstanding to remain between us, so let me show you a little more.”

Ryu Won walked over to the bookshelves that lined one wall and pulled a thick purple tome from the top shelf.

With a slight vibration, a new space was revealed in the wall. It was a secret room.

“Come in.”

Ryu Won took the lead and led Yeon-young into the room. She clutched the mask tightly in both hands as she walked.

When she got a good look at the interior of the secret room, her jaw dropped.
