Waiting For Your Reincarnation Chapter 59
Yeon-Young stared at them, unable to hide her confusion.
She didn’t know if they knew what she was thinking, but the Slys had completely dropped their guard.
More Slys gathered around them than before.
The Slys let out a delightful chirp and zigzagged across the grass. It was a cute little joke.
Why would such delicate souls gather in the fields of the Northwest Mountains?
Unlike the forests of Iris, this place was too bleak, cold, and lifeless to support life.
Slys leaned closer, noticing how Yeon-Young clenched her fists and rubbed the center of her chest.
“You should go to the forest where the Iris Pillars are.”
Yeon-Young squeezed as much of Slys into her arms as she could and hugged her tightly.
Then the memories of the Slys flooded back into her mind.
Dozens of memories flashed through her mind. She raised her index finger in the air and paused.
She paused, wondering how she would face any painful memories.
But she clenched her fist once and reset her mind.
The memories came in different sizes and colors.
Yeon-young stood in front of one that was particularly bright.
In her experience, the brighter the glow, the more it seemed to show the most important page of the soul’s life.
She touched the memory with her index finger.
Once again, a northwestern mountain field appeared, and in its center stood a mysterious figure.
Lush lemon-colored hair. A smiling but intimidating presence.
“Chairman?”
It was Saeri.
Yeon-young was stunned by how different she looked.
In the center, Saeri was the chairman, but she was casual and always smiling, a warm image.
But in her memories, Saeri was as stoic and hard as a dry twig.
Saeri let out a small sigh and waved her hand.
A transparent membrane enveloped the entire field and then vanished.
Slys watched the scene from a distance, unfazed by Saeri’s cold power.
“Give it to me.”
Saeri demanded something from the Slys in the form of a command, and they hesitated and looked away.
She knew that Slys we’re not a friendly creature to ghosts, except in special cases like Yeon-young.
But the Slys seemed more than unfriendly to Saeri, they seemed to fear her.
As if they were afraid to touch her.
“Where is the powder?”
The question made her realize that Saeri was the last one to get the powder.
It was clear that this memory was very old, for the last time Slys had obtained the powder was hundreds of years ago.
The Sly took Saeri with him and headed toward the sun.
After a short time, Saeri emerged with a very small amount of Sly Powder in a clear pouch.
That was the end of the Sly’s memory. Yeon-young blinked and looked at the sun.
Both memories pointed towards the sun. The cave of purification and Sly’s powder.
From the glimpsed memories, the Slys here and her current request were closely related.
“She insisted that he needed me.”
This request had come from Saeri, pointing at Yeon-young. Confusion flashed in Yeon-young’s eyes.
What had Saeri seen in her that made her decide Jaeho needed her?
Yeon-young looked at the many Slys clinging to her legs. Then she spoke softly.
“Can you help me?”
The Slys waved their bouncing bodies from side to side in affirmation.
“Where is the Sly’s powder?”
In response to Yeon-Young’s question, the Slys formed a swarm and engaged in a close dialogue.
Their bodies bobbed up and down at a steady pace as they concentrated on the conversation.
Soon, the Slys stood in a line and led Yeon-Young in the direction of the sun.
She followed behind them.
As they walked through the grass in the direction of the sun, the fields faded and the dark mountain path became visible again.
“Was the field an illusion?”
At the end of the rutted mountain path was the entrance to a huge cave that swallowed the darkness.
There was no light coming through, so it was dark even before they entered.
Yeon-young clenched her fists slightly. One by one, the Slys entered the cave in a single file.
Using their lights as flashlights, they stepped forward.
The white glow of the Slys’ lights slowly illuminated the cave.
It was large and wide, but not as deep as they had expected.
A little further on, they came to a dead end.
At the dead end, the Slys split up.
They split off in all directions, climbing the walls of the cave and moving from place to place.
Suddenly lost, Yeon-young looked left and right at the Slys.
“What are you doing?”
Spread out in all directions, the Slys clung to the stalactites or the walls, drinking the groundwater that dripped down.
They were too busy gulping down the water to hear her.
With a sigh, Yeon-young set off alone to find the Sly’s powder.
Maybe their help would be all she needed.
“What was that?”
A part of the wall in front of them was glowing.
Sly had avoided the spot and settled down to drink from the groundwater.
Upon closer inspection, she realized that it wasn’t the wall that was glowing, but a piece of broken glass embedded in the wall.
For some reason, looking at it made her heart race.
It was as if it was calling to her.
Carefully avoiding the sharp edges that would cut her if she touched it, Yeon-young tried to pull it out.
“Huh?”
But before she could force it, the glass shattered and the light was absorbed into her body.
After a moment of confusion as to how to fix it, she felt lighter as the light seeped into her body.
Some kind of divinity, perhaps.
Even the color of her skin, damaged by the fight with the Snarl, was restored.
Looking back, she wondered how she could have stopped there after touching the Snarl.
After drinking the underground water and swelling up, the Slys gained some size and descended down the stalactite.
“Ming.”
“You drank and threw up.”
Yeon-young’s eyes widened as she watched the Slys spit out the water.
She knew there was nothing wrong with spitting something out, but she was worried.
When Sly was done, he stood across from Yeon-Young and asked for a hug.
Yeon-young took him in her arms with a loving touch and Sly started to vomit on her hand again.
“Ming.”
“Are you okay? Are you really sick?”
Sly, who had been gagging for a while, signaled to be lowered back to the floor.
Yeon-young slowly lowered Sly to the ground.
“Sly’s powder.”
In her palm was a white powder, softer and finer than flour.
It glittered mysteriously and beautifully, like a precious stone.
No one had to tell her what it was to recognize it.
Yeon-young put the powder in her hand into a plastic bag.
She was proud of herself for fulfilling the request.
“Ming.”
“All of them?”
She looked up at the sound of cries and saw a line of Slys in front of her.
They had all come together to help her, and they were all drinking water.
After a while, she looked into the plastic bag that was barely tied around her mouth.
It occurred to her that with this amount of water, she might not have to come back for hundreds of years.
“I guess we won’t have to come back for a while.”
“Ming?”
At the mention of not having to come back for a while, the Slys relaxed.
Her body dripped like melting water and she let out a sigh of disappointment.
Yeon-young watched her, the corners of her mouth twitching upward.
If she ever gets back to the center, she’ll have to start by relocating this baby Sly.
“But how do we get there?”
Now that she had the key to her wish, Sly’s powder, Yeon-young had a fundamental question.
It was in this field that she’d saved Jaeho from danger, been unilaterally kidnapped by a Snarl, and escaped.
She had no idea how to get back.
Yeon-young remembered the desperate look on Jaeho’s face the last time she saw him before he was captured by a Snarl.
She couldn’t believe that he had that look on his face.
“By the way, what was that voice I heard?”
She heard a strange voice the moment she came face to face with Jaeho.
She couldn’t tell if it was Jaeho’s or someone else’s, but it sounded strange.
Yeon-young stood still, studied the voice and then shook her head.
For now, it was important to get them back to the center safely.
The Slys were huddled in a corner of the cave.
Seeing them, Yeon-Young grasped at straws.
“I want to get back to the center, is there a way?”
The Slys looked at each other and made noises.
Judging by their inability to move easily, they didn’t know how to get to the center.
She sat back in her seat, unable to hide her disappointment.
Just then, a Sly walked up and tapped Yeon-Young’s bracelet.
A small hologram appeared on her bracelet, showing a red siren and the word EMERGENCY.
