Waiting For Your Reincarnation Chapter 61
Jung Jaeho is back to his old self.
The deal with Saeri must have gone well.
Seeing her stunned expression, Jaeho shrugged.
Then a waterfall-like stream of water shot up from the ground.
It became thinner and thinner, hovering around Yeon-young’s bracelet until it was completely absorbed.
Yeon-young instinctively checked Jaeho’s ears. The core was larger than it had been during the confrontation with Ryu Won.
“So this is why you wanted to get your body back.”
As his body grew, so did the vessel that could contain his abilities.
His abilities were detailed, precise and beautiful.
Yeon-young looked at the bracelet that contained Jaeho’s power. The memory of the Divine still sent shivers down her spine.
“What did you do?”
“Only once, not twice.”
“What are you talking about?”
“You always interrupt me in the most important moments.”
Jaeho was not his usual self.
His eyes, once so confident, with nothing to lose, now held fear.
He ran his index and middle fingers down his wrist inside the bracelet. He wiped his hand away at the sensation of cool drops.
Jaeho obediently kept his distance from Yeon-young.
“Haven’t you grown up and inevitably increased the size of your brain? Come on.”
Jaeho lightly threw something from his robe pocket at Yeon-young.
Without noticing, Yeon-young caught it with both hands.
What he threw was a small glass bottle filled with a clear liquid.
“Drink it if you need it.”
“Hey, Jaeho!”
At her call, Jaeho ran out of the training center without looking back.
“Do you really think I’m going to drink what you gave me?”
Yeon-young eyed the glass bottle suspiciously.
At the bottom of the liquid, which she only recognized as clear, was a fine, shimmering powder.
She realized what it was. It was Sly’s powder.
He had used this precious powder as a tool in this experiment.
“I see.”
Yeon-Young slipped the vial into the inside pocket of her uniform coat. Come what may, there would not be a day when she would drink this liquid.
She cleared her throat and turned to the wall of the training center.
There were several buttons on the wall, and she pressed the power button for the Snarl Battle.
Tsk-ring—
A notification appeared on Yeon-young’s bracelet.
[Veronica’s Request to Visit the Witch’s Tavern].
It was from Veronica.
After checking the message, Yeon-Young turned off the power button and teleported directly to Veronica.
Veronica saw her enter the tavern and grabbed a cold orange juice.
Marie lay down on the floor, wagging her tail and showing Yeon-Young her belly.
“Hey, girl.”
“What’s wrong?”
“Something I have to deliver as soon as possible.”
Veronica’s face darkened slightly at Yeon-Young’s question.
She pulled the hem of a torn T-shirt from under the bar table.
Yeon-young looked back and forth between Veronica’s serious face and the hem of the T-shirt on the table.
“What is this?”
“A clue to the mission I’m giving you.”
“What is the mission?”
“Do you remember what I told you at the festival?”
“Was it about the Sly disappearing one by one?”
She thought back to the Iris Forest, covered in the Snarl’s aura.
Veronica patted the hem of her T-shirt.
“Yes, but this time we have a missing person from our chapter, and it’s a phantom.”
“So that’s…”
“You’re right, it’s the hem of the missing person’s T-shirt. Marie found it while walking in the town square.”
She couldn’t believe that a soul was missing in the center of town.
Yeon-young frowned slightly and examined the torn hem of the T-shirt more closely.
“How can this happen in a village?”
“Yes, the place is very spooky. Give this to Saeri, please.”
Veronica handed him a red file.
A red file, that meant emergency or urgent in the center.
Veronica tilted her head as if to say, “Take a look at it.”
Yeon-young opened the file carefully. On the paper were the information and description of the missing person.
Name: Inuri
Ability: Amplification
Gender: Male
Occupation: Farmer
Testimony: 1. Description: Wide brimmed straw hat/black trousers, white T-shirt (possibly with torn cuffs), navy blue boots over the calf. 2. Time of disappearance: before dawn, probably before dawn
Yeon-young put the file iron back on.
The description was clear enough that if she found it, she would know who it was right away.
She told Veronica she’d deliver it to Saeri right away and left the tavern.
As soon as she left the tavern, Saeri’s call arrived.
* * *
[Chairwoman’s office]
As requested, Yeon-young went straight to the chairman’s office.
Saeri shielded her eyes with her palms and listened to Yeon-young’s report.
She still did not feel well.
“Why is there no end to the cockroaches? The floor is so dirty. We’re going to have a problem.”
Saeri rubbed her temples with both hands and blinked sharply.
She sat up and turned to Yeon-young.
“Yeon-young, I’m going to need your skills and I want you to take this case.”
“Me?”
“Yes. Just something simple. I’m going to give you the coordinates of the victim’s house, and I want you to check it out tomorrow. See if there’s anything strange, if you can read any memories. Report back to me if there is.”
“Got it.”
“Be careful. If you think it’s dangerous, get out.”
Saeri, who had read Yeon-young’s mind, advised with closed eyes.
She nodded and followed the instructions.
The next day, Yeon-young went straight to Inuri’s house.
She checked the coordinates on her bracelet and found that it was on the outskirts of the city.
“Go through the square, then out the front gate, then left again. It’s not far.”
Yeon-young left the square where Inuri supposedly disappeared.
She was nervous that she might encounter a memory of him.
She closed her eyes from time to time and concentrated on the flow of her other abilities.
The only thing glowing in the darkness was the bright pink core on her wrist.
Once outside the village, there was a chill in the air, even in broad daylight. Maybe it was because most of the spirits gathered near the village.
“There it is.”
As the coordinates approached, Yeon-young saw farmland stretching over a thousand acres and was certain that this was Inuri’s house.
According to her research, Inuri was delivering crops to a telemart.
Yeon-young frowned at the grotesque appearance of the crops, more than half of which had withered.
It didn’t make sense for the crops to be so ruined when he’d been missing for less than a week.
She made her way through the barren farmland and approached the house.
The lights were off in the one-story house, which was roughly constructed of long blades of grass with a bronze-colored wooden frame.
“Is he inside?”
Yeon-young grabbed the door handle and shook it to be sure, but it was securely locked.
The house seemed empty.
She could read no memories and no one was home.
It was an empty house.
Yeon-young checked the call button on her bracelet and slowly walked away from Inuri’s house.
It was then that she spotted a man in the middle of the farmland, checking the crops that hadn’t withered yet.
“Mr. Inuri?”
He staggered, unsteady on his feet, unable to keep his balance.
Navy blue boots and a straw hat. Black pants with the right sleeve torn off.
It was exactly the same as Inuri’s description in the report.
“Mr. Inuri!”
Yeon-young called out to him again.
But her voice didn’t seem to reach him.
Maybe it was the distance, but he didn’t even look up.
Sensing that something was wrong, Yeon-young bent down and slowly walked to where Inuri was.
He was bent over at a ninety degree angle, his face buried in the crops.
“Something’s wrong.”
“Uuugghh…”
There was a painful groan.
Yeon-young leaned down even more, the panic button on her wristband activated.
Inuri’s face was as clear as a focused camera.
“What the hell.”
Inuri inspected the plants.
It had grown green and lush, but every time he touched it, it wilted.
It was as if he had sucked the life out of them.
Even as the crops crumpled to the ground like soaked paper, he laughed in amusement at the sight.
With an ominous premonition, Yeon-young stopped advancing and took cover among the crops.
It was the right time to hit the panic button.
“What am I supposed to do?”
Yeon-young bit her lip as she looked at Inuri’s lower half. His entire lower half was blackened like a black hole.
It was grotesque, as if half of his body had turned into a snarl.
Inuri looked unconscious, as if his mind had already been taken over.
Yeon-young hid among the crops and sighed.
*Rustle*
Suddenly, he raised his head from the crops and looked around.
Then he took a step toward Yeon-young, his ears perked up.
