Waiting For Your Reincarnation Chapter 69
There was an abyss in front of her eyes.
Before she could realize what was happening, a headache hit her
Yeon-young felt suffocated and tight in her chest, even though she wasn’t doing anything.
She wonders if this is what it feels like to be trapped in a dark cave.
Yeon-young didn’t stop but kept walking forward.
Then she heard the sobs of a young woman in the fireless room.
The pitiful sobs were enough to touch Yeon-young’s heart.
“I wonder where it came from.”
She turned in the direction of the sound.
The dark room gradually brightened.
The room turned ashen, and she could see a winter road.
“This can’t be right, they’re all framed.”
In the center of Winter’s Street, preparations were underway for an execution.
Beneath the execution platform, a crowd had gathered to watch the day’s execution.
In the crowd, a woman in a black robe stood out.
She clasped her hands together and muttered something desperately with a trembling voice.
It was her voice that had led Yeon-young here.
Wow.
The cheers from the crowd gradually grew louder.
In the distance, a middle-aged woman dressed in black rags walked over, led by men.
The woman stopped praying when she saw the figure of the middle-aged woman. Desperation gradually filled the woman’s eyes.
“No, no.”
But the woman’s struggles were drowned out by the crowd.
The middle-aged woman was tightly chained to a pillar in the middle of the execution site.
The woman let out a small sigh as she took this in with resigned eyes.
“Witches are burned at the stake.”
“No. My mother is not a witch.”
She pushed through the crowd to reach the woman.
But with a low, withering voice, the pole beneath her caught fire.
The flames that had consumed the branches were now devouring the middle-aged woman’s body bit by bit.
At that moment, through the flames, the middle-aged woman’s gaze met the gaze of the woman watching her.
The woman smiled warmly and shook her head. Then she disappeared completely through the flames.
The robed woman sank to the ground.
Her nails scratched the ground and she tried to cling to the floor, unaware that they were bleeding.
“I will kill them all, I will take my revenge.”
It was then that Yeon-Young saw the woman’s soul inside her body take a strange turn.
The transparent soul slowly separated from the body, turned black, and turned into a black cloud.
The human soul was being extinguished and turned black.
Yeon-young covered her mouth with her hands and gradually backed away. Only then did she realize why she was standing here.
She was reading the Snarl’s memories.
“Yeon-young, are you okay?”
“Yes, I’m fine.”
Ryu Won’s voice opened her eyes, and she realized that she was facing a Variant 1 Snarl.
Yeon-young felt like she’d been in the memory space for a long time, but she must have been mistaken.
*Swoosh*
The Snarl hissed like a snake, sounded like the scream of the woman in the memory, and Yeon-young couldn’t move.
“Let’s take care of this first.”
“Wait a minute, Mr. Ryu Won.”
“Why? Do you want to take care of it?”
Interpreting Ryu Won’s insistence differently, he stepped aside.
The Snarl was firmly held back by the wind. Yeon-young hesitantly grabbed the weapon on her belt.
‘Was this the right way to kill it?’
“No, I don’t want to deal with this…”
“It’s okay, aim the gun at its right shoulder like we practiced in the conference room.”
At Ryu Won’s words, Yeon-young’s hand visibly trembled.
‘Could it really be the Snarl’s memory from earlier? Could she be mistaken? If it was the Snarl’s memory, was this the right way?’
It was a dilemma.
‘What if her mother was unjustly killed and that’s what made her want to do evil to the world?’
‘What if that was her starting point?’
‘What if the Snarl wasn’t really made up of nothing but evil?’
‘Whose fault is that?’
Daeheon’s words came to Yeon-young’s mind.
“Everyone treats the Snarl like a cockroach. Why don’t they realize that there’s no difference between a phantom and a Snarl.”
A system crumbled in Yeon-young’s mind.
Her grip on the gun loosened.
“I don’t think this is right. I can’t kill it.”
“You shouldn’t hesitate.”
Ryu Won quickly struck the Snarl’s right shoulder, taking out the core.
The Snarl disappeared from the world as if it had never existed in the first place.
Ryu Won’s eyes widened in disbelief.
“That was dangerous.”
Ryu Won walked slowly toward her.
He placed a warm hand on her waist and reached for her belt.
With a deft touch, he pulled out the gun, unhooked the safety, and handed it to her.
As she grasped the gun, Ryu Won placed his hand over hers.
He touched the back of his hand with his index and middle fingers and aimed the gun at the spot where the Snarl had been earlier.
The bullet went off with a click.
The tree where the bullet had passed shattered into a shapeless mass.
“You should have killed it. You should have shot it like this.”
“I don’t think annihilation is always the answer, I’d rather use Sly’s powder…”
“No, they have to die, they have to disappear.”
Ryu Won grimly put the safety on her gun. He casually tucked the gun into Yeon-young’s belt.
His eyes reflected a dark hatred for Snarl.
Ryu Won smiled softly out of the corner of his eye and patted Yeon-young’s gun.
“That thing is not something that can be regenerated.”
His voice was resolute and cold, and Yeon-young couldn’t speak anymore.
She had a feeling she wouldn’t be able to finish the conversation if she tried.
When the Snarl mission was over, they went back to the conference room to debrief.
She was relieved to see Jaeho looking happy and Zhaolin looking a little tired.
They had managed to eliminate the Snarl.
“If I had known you would be back so soon, I would have left it to you.”
“I hope you won’t team me up with Jeong Jaeho again.”
“It’s been a long day. Why don’t we go to Veronica’s for a drink?”
“What drinking party? The chairman wants you to stay and finish the unfinished business.”
Even as he spoke, Zhaolin’s expression relaxed.
The snarls around the village have been cleared, so the center and the village should be safe for now.
While everyone was smiling, only Yeon-young was deep in thought.
Like a detective with an unsolved case, the memory of the snarl kept nagging at her.
Ryu Won, sensing her state of mind, whispered softly so that only Yeon-young could hear.
“Ms. Yeon-young, are you feeling unwell?”
“I’m just wondering if there’s any way to save the Snarl.”
The peaceful atmosphere was immediately shattered by Yeon-young’s question.
The air in the room grew heavy, especially on Saeri’s face, which had hardened to the point where it was obvious.
She stared at her teammates one by one. They all had similar faces.
Only Jaeho stared back at her intently, his eyes blue and clear.
Saeri approached Yeon-young with her arms crossed. Yeon-young opened her mouth.
“I saw the Snarl’s past life.”
“The Snarl?”
“I don’t know why, but I saw it clearly, a daughter watching her mother during a witch hunt. It wasn’t as if she was filled with evil…”
“So?”
“I mean, is there a better way, besides annihilation?”
Yeon-Young chewed on her lower lip.
As Ryu Won watched, he touched his index finger to her lips.
This small gesture instantly relieved the tension in the room.
He shook his head at Zhaolin, who had been listening to her in silence.
“No. There is not a soul without a story in their past, and they have chosen to become evil themselves.”
“It’s better not to have any regrets, they are endless.”
“They’re not cockroaches for nothing.”
Zhaolin spoke firmly, and Ryu Won agreed, his face unusually serious.
Only Jaeho was pensive at Yeon-young’s words.
All of them were unwavering in their opinions of the Snarl, even those who seemed to be tired of her bitter enmity.
“I can’t stand by and watch other souls be endangered. It’s hard to sympathize with someone with only memories of their previous life when there’s a mutated Snarl out there.”
Yeon-Young was silent.
They had a point. The Snarl was out there right now, roaming the world, harming innocent souls.
She couldn’t let pity alone put them in danger.
“I suppose there is no other way but to destroy them.”
After concluding, Yeon-young nodded her head slightly in understanding.
Then, everyone’s stiff faces slowly loosened.
“Let’s go to the witchcraft tavern. I’ll shoot them all.”
“Okay.”
Saeri made a mask out of dirt and put it over her face to prevent Zhaolin from throwing up anymore.
The others followed Saeri, who went first.
Yeon-young was the last to leave the conference room.
It was then that Yeon-young’s eyes caught sight of a pendant on the floor.
The pendant, gilded along its rounded exterior, was broken in half.
She picked it up.
Beep beep—-
At that moment, something rang in her ears, and Yeon-young stifled a painful groan and fell to the floor.
“Ugh, not a good sign.”
Power surged from deep within her belly.
She focused on her rampaging senses as she had been taught to stabilize her powers.
But like a grain of sand slipping through her fingers, the power slipped out of her grasp.
Eventually, the power opened up completely against her will.
It consumed and dominated her mind, calling upon every memory.
“No, no.”
The most recent memories of Zhaolin and Jaeho, the woman from Ryu Won’s past, and more.
All the memories of the spirits in the center tangled in her mind, rushing at her.
Standing in front of so many memories, Yeon-young felt fear for the first time.
