“Sun Woo-jin, how did you get here…”

“Do you know Woojin?”

Yeon-young  thought she must be mistaken.

But everything about him was familiar: the shape, the voice, the name. He was her former lover.

Yeon-young swallowed dryly and moved closer to Woojin.

He shook his head as she came within inches of him.

“Why are you dead?”

Only after the words came out of her mouth did she realize what a stupid question it was.

Yeon-young washed her face dry, unable to hide her confusion.

Laurendia patted her on the back with a puzzled expression.

Ryu Won, now standing next to Yeon-young, frowned, his hands in his uniform coat.

Jaeho had also noticed the strange air currents and stood in front of her.

Woojin took a step back from the two men’s menacing presence.

“Tsk.”

“Kim Yeon-young, how the hell do you know him?”

“I didn’t want to know either.”

Ryu Won clicked his tongue slightly.

As if sensing something, Laurendia stood in front of him to protect Woojin.

The spirits in the lobby could feel the tension in the air as the confrontation between the Branch 1 and Branch 4 staff dragged on.

In the distance, the security team creeped closer, watching intently. Yeon-young let out a small sigh.

It hadn’t ended well, and she didn’t want to pry into the past of a spirit she had no memory of.

Why he died, she was curious about that, but not curious enough to turn the Fourth Branch upside down.

Seeing that Yeon-young couldn’t take her eyes off Woojin, Ryu Won spoke in a low voice.

“Did you want to see him?”

“What?”

“Are you glad to see him? Enough to pretend to know him first. He didn’t even recognize who you were.”

“I didn’t really miss him, I was just surprised.”

“He recognized you right away.”

“I know.”

“You shouldn’t have even given him a second glance.”

“Hey, Ryu Won. If he’s new, there’s a way to sneak him out with an amplifier.”

“Both of you, step aside.”

Ryu Won’s reproachful tone made Jaeho shout even louder.

Yeon-young stepped between the two spirits and stood in front of Laurendia.

Behind her, she could see Woojin’s innocent-looking, clear eyes. The Woojin she’d met in Branch 4 had seemed good.

When he’d cheated on her, she’d wanted to beat him to death, but now she didn’t even feel like it.

“Yeon-young, what’s going on, is it serious?”

“No, it’s not. I’m just surprised because we have been in a relationship in a previous life, but that’s okay.”

“Oh, I see. Do you want me to send Woojin back if something…, like bad memories came back?”

At Laurendia’s question, Yeon-young looked at him once more and gave a small shake of her head to indicate that she was fine.

She breathed a sigh of relief.

Laurendia led them to the first floor of the basement of Branch 4.

Unlike Branch 1, which had an underground training center, this one contained a giant teleportation machine.

Apparently, person-to-person teleportation had been banned until the light was restored.

Using the machine, they traveled to where the pillars of Branch 4 were located.

“Ouch.”

“Is he really this weak? He seems more suited to life as a test subject.”

“That doesn’t exactly qualify you as a special team.”

“Enough already.”

Woojin gagged as the teleportation didn’t quite adjust to his body, and the sour conversation continued next to him.

Yeon-young rubbed her itchy temples and shut Ryu Won and Jaeho up.

She stepped away from them and took in the scenery of the Fourth Branch forest.

Now that she was out in the other branches, she understood why the First Branch was said to be the center of power.

Like the forests of the First, the Fourth had everything to offer.

Lush, green fields and a white, geometric pillar in the center. But it was much smaller.

She could easily spend half a day exploring the Sly’s in the forest, but not this one. The pillar also didn’t look as grand as the one in Branch 1.

A support team from Branch 4 clustered around the pole, constantly checking its condition.

“It’s definitely lost its shine.”

“We’re going to have to get the Slys out of the pole soon.”

“Ms. Laurendia, do you mind if I take a closer look?”

“Of course.”

With her permission, Yeon-young took a step toward the pole. As she approached, the support team stepped aside.

The pillar emitted a faint glow intermittently, like a machine about to be turned off.

If it lost its light completely, it would be difficult to guarantee the safety of the Slys inside.

To hide her anxiety, Yeon-young pressed one hand firmly to her chest and placed the other on the pillar.

The pillar responded to her hand with a violent vibration.

“Uh…, huh?”

Before she realized what was happening, it happened.

Several wires could be seen extending out of the pillar, centered on Yeon-young’s hand, and light began to flow along them.

Like a heart pumping, the light came from Yeon-young’s hand. The pillar glowed with a blinding intensity.

It was a power she had never seen before, not even in the pillars of the First Branch.

Yeon-young stared at the sight, not daring to take her hand away, as if drawn by a powerful force.

“The pillar is working again!”

Someone from the support team in Branch 4 exclaimed as he checked the machine attached to the pillar.

As if his words were a beacon, the pillar became increasingly transparent. The sky around the forest began to darken.

One by one, the pillar emitted star-like lights outward. The lights floated and decorated the sky.

Yeon-Young remembered this beautiful scene. Sly’s stepped out of the pillar safely.

She carefully removed her hand from the pole. She nervously checked her palm.

She looked this way and that, but didn’t see anything special.

‘So why had the pillar suddenly regained its light? Has the blackout in the other branches been resolved?’

“Ms. Yeon-young.”

Ryu Won was suddenly there, his hand on her shoulder. Yeon-young slowly raised her head and looked out at the forest.

Laurendia stared at the night sky with a faint smile on her face. The support team took one last look at the pillar, relieved that things had improved.

And Woojin couldn’t take his eyes off the sky, which was a beautiful sight to behold. He could see Sly’s light reflected in his eyes like the night sky.

He led Yeon-young in the direction of the trees. It seemed to be preparing for the sly’s to fall from the sky.

Ryu Won reached out and formed a shield over Yeon-young’s head.

She stared at his luscious white hair as it blew in the wind.

She’d thought he didn’t speak English until they’d been on call together at Branch 1.

He was beautiful, relentless, and strangely otherworldly.

He wondered what in the world had brought them together in their previous lives, but now here they were.

Under the night sky, Ryu Won looked at Yeon-young and smiled at her. Ryu Won’s gentle smile made Yeon-young smile in return.

It wasn’t long before sly’s were falling into the forests of the Fourth Branch. Laurendia ran among them, frantically counting them.

“Mr. Ryu Won!”

Someone from Branch 4 urgently called out to Ryu Won.

He frowned and ignored the voice, but not for long.

“I’m coming.”

The employee called after him with a sob, and Ryu Won had no choice but to follow with a weak sigh.

Ryu Won sat still in the field, enjoying the leisurely pace.

“You’re really good, aren’t you?”

The familiar voice turned her head to see Woojin smiling at her.

She froze slightly, not expecting him to come to her first, and when she tried to pull herself up, he held out his hand and sat down on the field himself.

Like a black hole, Woojin’s jet-black eyes locked onto Yeon-young.

Looking into those sucking eyes, Yeon-young suddenly realized that she used to like Woojin’s eyes like this.

But now, looking into those eyes didn’t make her feel anything.

“Hello, I’m Sun Woo-jin, assigned to the special team of Branch 4.”

“…I’m Kim Yeon-young.”

“What did you do just now? The pillar glowed as soon as you touched it.”

“Isn’t that a coincidence?”

“Coincidence… Still, it was a beautiful sight to see.”

Yeon-young didn’t bother to hide her discomfort, but he didn’t seem to mind and continued the conversation.

It reminded her of the first time she met him, and even then, Woojin was unexpectedly interested and affectionate.

Her heart, which was initially built like a solid wall, slowly crumbled under his affection.

‘Well, what are you doing? The finish was a disaster.’

Yeon-young looked into the innocent eyes looking back at her.

She closed her eyes for a moment and focused, trying to recognize his abilities.

“What.”

There was a small cluster of yellow cores where Woojin’s throat was.

She could see a familiar flow of power surrounding it. It was unmistakably Ryu Won’s.
