It’s been a week since Ryu Won left for Branch 2. His promise to return the next day had become an unfulfilled promise.

Yeon-young felt like she was standing in the eye of a typhoon.

Whether it was Branch 1 or Branch 2, they were on high alert for a major Snarl invasion, but nothing happened.

Ryu Won was stuck in the second branch, unable to do anything about it.

As she quickly scrolled down the computer window, she subconsciously checked her bracelet.

It hadn’t been contacted, and no notifications had popped up. She looked out the window.

Tanato’s day was coming to an end.

“It’s almost time.”

Things seemed to slip through her fingers at this time of day, like they were imprinted on her.

Yeon-young pursed her lips and leaned back in her chair, tapping her index finger against the surface of the bracelet several times without meaning to.

As if it had noticed her impatience, the bracelet beeped.

[Verify communication connection.]

Seeing the notification, Yeon-young hovered over her mouse and adjusted her computer screen.

Suddenly, the window filled with reports on Snarl was gone, replaced by Ryu Won’s face.

A smile slowly spread across his face, as if he, too, had seen her face.

The smile tickled Yeon-young’s fingers, and she couldn’t help but ask.

“Why haven’t you gone home yet, in case someone catches you?”

“I’ve got too many reports to finish.”

“You shouldn’t be working overtime like that.”

“You realize that’s ridiculous, don’t you?”

“I’m being serious.”

At his response, Yeon-young’s brow furrowed slightly. He was being playful, but she knew better than anyone that he meant it.

Ryu Won put his arms on the desk and moved closer to the screen.

It felt like he was reaching through the monitor, and Yeon-young took a small step back.

“Why are you moving away?”

“What?”

“Don’t try to move away from me even a little bit. Come closer.”

He was speaking with the corners of his mouth raised, but somehow, he sounded determined.

Eventually, Yeon-young put her arms on the desk and moved closer to the screen.

“How’s Branch 2 doing?”

“It’s quiet. Nothing has happened yet. What about there?”

“Same here…”

There was a moment of silence.

It was during these moments of silence that Ryu Won was acutely aware that he wasn’t by her side right now.

It was the first time she had ever been away from him for such a long time.

The void left by Ryu Won’s absence was bigger than she had realized.

If Ryu Won and Yeon-young had met in the past, in Tanato, a long time ago, and had been separated for some reason, only to be reunited now, how had he endured this long time?

Looking into Yeon-young’s abysmal eyes, Ryu Won leaned back against the back of the chair.

“Should I just go back?”

“What?”

“Why don’t I just drop everything and go back to you? There’s nothing you can’t do.”

“No…”

“If you were going to collapse without me, you shouldn’t have started the chapter in the first place.”

“Isn’t that too dangerous for a protection center employee to say?”

“So just say the word, I’m coming right now to where you are.”

It was a ridiculous and irresponsible thing to say.

But today, the words felt so reassuring, she couldn’t help but smile.

Knowing that Ryu Won had been possessing Woojin from time to time had broken down a wall between them.

He was a little more willing to act.

Yeon-young smiled faintly and shook her head from side to side.

“It’s okay, and we see each other every day.”

From the day he moved to Branch 2, Ryu Won hadn’t missed a single call.

At first, she wondered if this was a good use of the center’s communication capabilities, but she soon got used to the end-of-day calls.

Fiddling with the ring on his ring finger out of habit, Ryu Won spoke up.

“I trust Ms. Yeon-young, but I don’t trust anything around her.”

“I see.”

“You can’t stay overnight.”

“But isn’t Mr. Ryu Won sleeping out right now?”

Ryu Won’s smile grew wider and wider at Yeon-young’s question.

Ryu Won tilted his head languidly and stared at Yeon-young. It was like the face of a hungry predator.

*Thud*

Suddenly, the door to Yeon-young’s office opened. She turned her head toward the door in surprise, and there stood Jaeho.

He strode into the office, looking unhappy, and stared at the monitor.

When he saw Ryu Won’s face, Jaeho’s face crumpled like a sheet of paper. It was the same for Ryu Won.

Jaeho flicked his index finger in the air, creating a giant stream of water, and dunked the monitor into it.

“Hey, Jaeho!”

“You’re not working in the office so, I’m doing this. You don’t even realize I’m calling.”

“It’s officially past break time.”

“You work all day and night, so I thought you didn’t know about break time.”

At his words, Yeon-young looked at her bracelet.

[Lobby]

Jaeho had indeed left a message for Yeon-young.

Yeon-young put on a cool face and rubbed the nape of her neck with her hand. She hadn’t realized she’d been so focused on the call.

She looked at the broken monitor and sighed heavily.

She didn’t know how else to explain this to Ryu Won.

Just then, as if reading her mind, a message popped up on her bracelet. It was from Ryu Won.

[Don’t hang out with Jung Jaeho.]

[The existence of the second branch depends on you, Yeon-young.]

[Don’t cheat on me]

[Don’t even look at him].

Several messages floated over the bracelet.

Reading them, Yeon-young felt a sudden fatigue, and she cut off Ryu Won’s communication network for a moment.

Jaeho crossed his arms and looked down at Yeon-young, frowning.

“So why did you call me?”

“Zhaolin said we should stop by the first shelter and write a report.”

“Me too?”

Yeon-young scratched her head, obviously because she had checked out Shelter 3 this morning and submitted her report.

Jaeho shrugged and reached for Yeon-young’s hand.

“It’s not my job.”

“What are you talking about…?”

Yeon-young couldn’t say anymore.

A stream of water shot out of his hand and bound her hands. The attack was sudden.

It took the form of a rope and tightened around her arms and body.

Jaeho lightly grabbed Yeon-young around the waist and pulled her up. Then he opened the teleport and jumped into it.

“Jaeho, what are you doing? Where are you going?”

“Shelter 1.”

“You’re crazy.”

The space surrounded by light faded away, and Jaeho slowly stepped toward the ground.

Yeon-young looked around, barely able to stifle the rumbling in her stomach from her uncomfortable position.

When he realized she couldn’t escape now, he set her down on the ground and collected the stream of water.

“This place is a mess.”

There were three shelters in total, hidden beneath the fields, and no one could enter or leave without special permission.

Shelter 1 had an environment very similar to a forest field. It was cozy and warm, just without the pillars of Iris.

The interior was filled with slys that had been rescued from the field.

However, the sudden change in environment didn’t help hide their anxiety.

They jumped up, demanding to be taken out of the shelter.

“Calm them down.”

“Isn’t that your job?”

“My job is your job, and your job is your job.”

“It’s all my job, after all.”

“If you know, clean it up.”

Jaeho was in charge of the first shelter, so Yeon-young couldn’t get out on her own.

Yeon-young sighed and moved closer to the slys.

Seeing her face, the slys began to calm down.

The number of slys bouncing off the ceiling gradually decreased, and the shelter became quiet.

The slys settled between Yeon-young’s legs, showing its friendliness.

Watching, Jaeho’s frustration showed on his face.

When she realized that the slys had calmed down, Yeon-young turned around to face him and opened her mouth.

“Let me out.”

“I don’t want to.”

“What?”

“Are you going to talk to Ryu Won again when you get back?”

“Why is Ryu Won being mentioned here?”

“Don’t go. Come here.”

Jaeho grabbed Yeon-young’s wrist and walked into the shelter.

There was a small shelter inside the shelter.

Jaeho sat Yeon-young down on a bench and waved his hand several times as he looked in front of him.

Soon, in front of the bench, there was a clear puddle big enough for both of them to dip their feet into.

Jaeho stared at her with eyes as clear as rainwater.

“I thought you liked the water.”

“Did I ever tell you that?”

“I can eavesdrop on anything that comes out of the center.”

“Doesn’t your common sense give you the option of asking the other person?”

“Why bother when there’s an easy way?”

Yeon-young sighed, as if she was tired of his attitude.

He squatted down at her feet and stuck his hand in the puddle.

Then he splashed water from the puddle on her.

“Hey, Jung Jaeho.”

Yeon-young jumped up in her seat, frowned, and looked Jaeho in the eye.

His gaze swept very slowly from her forehead to her chin.

“Why are you looking at me like that?”

“Because you threw water on me.”

“Yeon-young, do you want to run away?”
