Waiting For Your Reincarnation Chapter 99
Yeon-young frowned slightly out of the corner of her eye at Jaeho’s unintelligible words. Jaeho still had his hand in the puddle.
The bright, off-white lights of the shelter illuminated him.
At first, she thought he was playing a prank, but he looked quite serious.
“You want to run away?”
“The time hasn’t come yet.”
“Where?”
“Anywhere you want. There’s no time.”
After a moment of staring at the ground, Yeon-young looked at Jaeho and shook her head.
Jaeho pulled his hand out of the puddle and slowly rose from his seat.
He leaned in so close she could feel his breath, and touched her coveted hair.
The coolness of his body and the dampness of the water created a strange sensation.
Pulling his hand away from Yeon-young, Jaeho swept his bangs back.
This revealed his right earlobe, where his core was located.
“What’s that?”
A black spot the size of a fingernail appeared beneath the piercing.
Inside the spot were the marks of several very thin needle pricks.
Yeon-young felt like she was looking at something she shouldn’t have.
While she was trying to organize her rushing thoughts, Jaeho interrupted the conversation.
His eyes, smooth as soap bubbles, were filled with longing.
“Give me a chance, too.”
“Huh?”
“This situation isn’t fair to me.”
“You’re the one who’s being unfair.”
“I probably need you more than Ryu Won.”
“What’s that…”
“Kim Yeon Young, please include me in your life.”
“What am I to you…”
Jaeho muttered, squeezing Yeon-young’s arms like a burst of water.
The words were partly directed at Yeon-young and partly at himself.
‘What was he doing to himself?’
‘And what does it mean to run out of time?’
She couldn’t organize the words in her head.
As if squeezing a dry rag, Yeon-young pursed her lips as she searched for answers.
He stared intently at her moist, soft lips.
‘Why?’
It was then. All the lights in the shelter turned red and emergency sirens wailed.
“What is it?”
The slys in the shelter shivered, clearly frightened by the sirens.
Yeon-young walked between them, trying to calm them down.
Meanwhile, Jaeho fingered his piercings and tapped a few screens in midair.
His face gradually lost color as his fingers flickered.
Sensing something was amiss, Yeon-young clenched her fists.
BANG-!
With a loud bang, the inside of the shelter shook violently from side to side.
Yeon-young hugged the slys on the floor and waited for the shaking to stop.
Unidentifiable powdery substances were falling from the ceiling.
“Jaeho, you didn’t accidentally set off the siren, did you?”
“No.”
“What is it? What’s going on out there?”
“It’s a raid on Branch 1.”
Red light emanated regularly from Yeon-young’s bracelet and Jaeho’s piercing.
She prayed she’d misheard Jaeho’s words, mingled with the sirens.
But his eyes looked even more sour than usual.
This was no joke.
The Snarl army had invaded the First Branch against everyone’s expectations. It was war.
“Let’s get out of here.”
“You stay in the shelter.”
“Say something that makes sense.”
Jaeho hastily opened the teleport.
Jaeho was the only one authorized to teleport out of the shelter, and if she missed this, Yeon-young would have to stay here until the war was over.
She urgently stepped in front of Jaeho.
“Get out of the way, it’s urgent.”
“I’m not kidding, either. We’re going together.”
“The spirit world is out there? You’re so crazy you want to be annihilated?”
“…….”
“Ryu Won may have listened to everything, but not me. This time…, I can’t let it end like this.”
Yeon-young, who was silently listening to Jaeho, suddenly kicked him in the calf.
It was an unexpected attack, and Jaeho staggered slightly.
“Hey, Jung Jaeho, what do you think I am?”
“What?”
“Before I was a spirit realm powerhouse, I was a powerhouse in the Soul Protection Center’s first branch.”
“…….”
“It’s not me that needs to be protected, but the other souls. I’m obligated to protect them, even from the rear, so you’re the one who’s got to separate the good from the bad.”
“I’m…”
“I’m not hiding. I’m going to the field to protect them.”
Yeon-young gestured with her chin to the spot where the teleport had opened earlier.
If he understood, it was a signal to open the teleport quickly.
Jaeho stood frozen in place, as if time had stopped.
His expression was overwhelming, and Yeon-young was puzzled.
“Why? Are you going to stop me after all this?”
“How can you be so fearless?”
“I don’t know. I’m scared, too. But I’m not the only one who’s scared.”
“Where does your strength come from?”
“I don’t know. Am I strong? I don’t know.”
She meant it. Because as far as she was concerned, there was no one else as weak as her.
Jaeho tweaked his right earlobe. He didn’t stop Yeon-young when she stepped closer to get on the teleport.
As he was about to board the teleport that had formed in the shelter, she called his name.
“Jung Jaeho.”
“What.”
“Mr. Ryu-won would have stopped me, too, because he said he’d do everything in his power to stop me this time.”
“Ryu Won?”
Jaeho raised one eyebrow, hiding his surprise.
She nodded her head up and down in agreement.
“I’m not sure what happened between you two, but from what I can see, you seem to be hitting it off, so work it out.”
“Hell.”
In response to Jaeho’s unenthusiastic reply, Yeon-young shrugged and jumped into the teleport.
It was then that the realization that a Snarl had broken in hit her.
The teleportation’s communication was poor, and the pillar of light was pockmarked with holes.
Jaeho held her tightly in his arms, not wanting her to fall into another dimension. The cool scent of water lapped at the tip of Yeon-young’s nose.
The pillar of light slowly faded away, revealing the chaotic scene of the center’s ground-floor lobby.
“This is a mess.”
“I’ll clean it up in one fell swoop, so stay out of it.”
“Okay.”
Yeon-young stared at the mutant snarls strewn across the lobby and gasped.
The center had fallen faster than she’d expected. The building’s columns were shattered in places, leaving nothing but rubble.
She grabbed her gun before she even stepped on the ground.
Jaeho reached toward the ceiling. He slowly lowered his hand from the top to the bottom.
A massive amount of water poured into the lobby like a giant wave.
The water swallowed up the Snarl and carried it out of the lobby.
His vision, blurred by the blackness, became clear.
Meanwhile, Yeon-young checked on the souls in the back and opened the portals to the three shelters.
“Please evacuate here.”
“Are you here now?”
Zhaolin had already arrived in the lobby and appeared behind Yeon-young’s back like a breeze.
In her hands, she wielded a cypher fire.
With her abilities added to the mix, the lobby was now a slightly larger safe zone than it had been earlier.
Watching the situation, Zhaolin touched her amber necklace and opened the portal to Shelter Two.
Yeon-young looked around, scanning the spirits who hadn’t yet moved on.
“Ms. Zhaolin, have all the souls on the first floor been evacuated?”
“You should take a look at the emergency room. There are a lot of souls being treated, so they probably haven’t evacuated many yet.”
“Alright, I’ll go there.”
“We’ll take care of the front, but I need you to get everyone you can see into shelters.”
“Okay, okay.”
Yeon-young trusted Zhaolin and ran in the direction of the emergency room. Her steps slowed as she closed the distance to the ER.
The emergency room was eerily quiet, despite Zhaolin’s assurances that many souls hadn’t been able to evacuate.
The floor was littered with dried dirt.
Yeon-young swallowed dryly and took one cautious step after another.
“Who evacuated everyone?”
There was not a single soul inside the emergency room.
They were gone, as if they had evaporated.
She forced herself to calm her racing heart and walked a little further inside. She came to a hallway with a stable.
One by one, she began to open the doors to the stabilization rooms.
“Now that I think about it, shouldn’t the chairman still be hospitalized here?”
Yeon-young shook her head and opened the remaining doors one by one.
“Hmph.”
A sigh escaped from her mouth.
Inside the stabilization room, a man lay on the floor with his head clutched tightly in his hands.
Yeon-young walked over to him, opening a portal to the three shelters in the corner of the room.
“Are you okay? I’m from the special team, and you need to get to the shelter right now.”
“…….”
“There…”
The man mumbled something to himself, as if he couldn’t hear her.
Yeon-young let out a small sigh and moved a little closer to him.
Then the words leaking out of the man’s mouth began to become a little clearer.
“Negro. Negro. Negro.”
He said the word negro as slowly as if a screw had come loose.
