Jeremiah didn’t argue and walked out of the cabin. I put my clothes back on, one by one, and followed him outside.

Of course, Shane did not come alone. The three knights who had accompanied him bowed their heads in awe when they saw Jeremiah.

“Your Excellency, we thought you were not safe.”

“Never mind. We know what our Duke is like…”

Their faces showed worry and relief that they knew he was safe.

I smiled secretly at the way they looked at Jeremiah, like a bunch of lost puppies.

Shane, following behind, wrinkled his nose in understanding.

“I’m glad I didn’t worry you more.”

Jeremiah said nonchalantly, having just said he wanted to stay here for three more days.

I decided to keep Jeremiah’s remark a secret for the rest of my life, in case the knights found out and cried.

“I suggest you return to the castle, Your Highness.”

Jeremiah nodded slightly, mounted the horses the knights had brought, and held out his hand to me as if it were a matter of course.

“Come, Vanessa.”

“Vanessa’s riding with me.”

Shane interrupted, but Jeremiah didn’t even pretend to hear him, still holding out his hand to me.

The knights were silent for some reason, looking back and forth between me and Jeremiah.

One of the knights spoke to me with his eyes, “Come on, take his hand.”

I let out a small grunt and reluctantly placed my hand in Jeremiah’s. He quickly grabbed my hand and waist and sat me down in front of him. Shane grumbled.

“I was really going to pick Vanessa up.”

“I’m sure she’s tired, so let’s make it easy on her.”

“Comfortable with you and uncomfortable with me? Vanessa, look at his childishness.”

“Sir, let the Duke go with Miss Vanessa and come this way…”

“Duchess… No, big, Miss Vanessa. The Duchess… No, no, make yourself at home!”

The knights dragged Shane away. Shane grumbled, but followed the knights to another horse.

“I think he called me weird… than that.”

I scratched my head, but my thoughts were interrupted by Jeremiah starting his horse.

Jeremiah whispered in my ear as we rode down the mountain, making sure I wasn’t cold or uncomfortable.

I was already used to riding with him in my arms, but the occasional whisper in my ear was strangely creepy and made me shiver. It didn’t make the ride down the mountain any easier.

Jeremiah was the first to notice my abnormality.

“Vanessa, you… feel a little hot.”

At first, I thought Jeremiah was making fun of me because of the redness in my face, but I soon realized that he was serious.

“Maybe the cloak is making you feverish?”

“I don’t think so. Hold still for a moment.”

Jeremiah took off his gloves and brought his palm to my forehead, his hand itself so hot that I was still staring at him.

He brought his palm to my forehead and gave me a serious look.

“You look really feverish.”

“Really? I don’t feel anything.”

“We need to get you to the Duke’s castle and get you checked out.”

Jeremiah, gloves back on, hugged my body tighter and took the reins. As he sped up his horse, so did the knights behind him.

But I recognized my anomaly before we reached the castle.

There was something about Jeremiah’s horse that made me feel a strange chill in the back of my neck, even as his warmth enveloped me.

I lowered my head, suddenly feeling motion sickness.

“Ugh…”

I swallowed hard, my stomach churning. Jeremiah asked when he heard me, concerned.

“Are you feeling… sick?”

“I’m a little motion sick…”

Jeremiah heard me and immediately slowed down again.

Just as I was muttering to myself that the knights would have a hard time keeping up with him, I suddenly lurched forward.

Luckily, Jeremiah caught me and saved me from falling.

“Uh-oh… Duke, I don’t feel right…”

“Hang in there, we’ll be there soon, damn it. I should have brought a carriage…”

Jeremiah seemed to be muttering profanities, but I couldn’t make out his voice. My eyelids were heavy.

I held on to his horse, desperately trying to keep myself together. But the vibrations were stronger than usual, and I blacked out.

When I opened my eyes again, Estella was sitting on my bed. I blinked and realized that this was my room in the Duke’s castle.

“Estella…”

I looked around the room and called out to Estella in a voice I didn’t recognize.

Estella jerked awake and grabbed my hand, and I realized that I was draped in layers of blankets, with a cold washcloth on my forehead.

“Sister, are you awake?”

“Yes… What happened?”

“You fainted and were carried in by my brother. The doctor said you had a bad cold. Combined with exhaustion, he said you should be absolutely stable for a while.”

I think I was probably a little shaken up after being caught in a snowstorm. Being rescued from the mountain and meeting people must have broken my nervousness.

I rolled my eyes at Estella’s comment. Judging by the darkness outside the window, it must have been half a day since we returned to the Duke’s castle. But Estella quickly proved me wrong.

“It’s been about two days since you and my brother returned to the Duke’s castle, and during that time, my brother hasn’t slept because he’s worried about you, and his face looks like he can’t speak…”

“Two days?!”

I exclaimed, startled by the unexpected fact, and immediately felt a stinging pain in my neck.

“Kuluk, kuluk…”

“Sis, here, water, water!”

Estella quickly grabbed the water from the nightstand. I drank the lukewarm water, and the pain finally subsided.

I stopped coughing and opened my mouth again.

“I’ve been out cold for two days?”

“That’s right. I mean, really, why would you want to get an aurora rose or something…” Estella muttered in a raspy voice.

She raised the corner of her eyes as if she were going to scold me, but she refrained from saying anything further, perhaps because I was sick.

I was too distraught to listen to her as I was.

“You’ve been out for two days.”

I thought I was so strong, I’ve never been sick before…’

“So, Estella, what about your birthday banquet?”

“It’s tomorrow. No. But does it matter, now?!”

“Of course it’s important! I went all the way there because I wanted to give Estella a special gift…”

“Don’t you realize? To me, you are the most precious and special gift that has been given to me.”

Touched by Estella’s words, I looked up at her with tears in my eyes. Estela coughed a little, a little embarrassed.

“Anyway, I hope you get better soon. It’s so upsetting to see you sick.”

“Okay, but I still want to go to Estella’s birthday banquet…”

“No! Absolutely not!”

Estella insisted that she’ll take care of the birthday party, so don’t worry about it and just get some rest.

I sulked a bit. Tomorrow, Estella will be dressed so beautifully, and I can’t wait to see people admire her.

But Estella is always pretty…

I decided to soothe the fact that I wouldn’t see Estella tomorrow with that fact.

“And…”

“And?”

“I have something special for you after the banquet, but you have to be well by then. Okay?”

Something special after the banquet? What could it be?’

I nodded, still scratching my head.

Estella looked a little shy, but she promised me, linking fingers with me, and a moment later, she left the room with an empty water glass.

“Haha. I can’t believe you’ve been doing this for two days.”

I sighed heavily and thought to myself, ‘What a pain in the ass.’

“Is Jeremiah okay?”

I wonder if Jeremiah is okay if I’m like this? He’s probably stressed out too.

Jeremiah got caught in a snowstorm, did the horses all by himself, and he’s been so worried about me… I don’t think he’s feeling too well either…

He didn’t sleep because he was worried about me.

Suddenly, I was worried about him. I realized that because of me, he probably didn’t take care of himself.
