It was when we arrived in front of Trevor’s room with the tiger.

“Lady!”

Suddenly, someone called out to us from the end of the hallway.

“Runart?”

It was the first time I had seen Runart run so quickly.

As Mariel and I tilted our heads and looked at Runart, he spoke gasping for breath.

“It’s… no, actually, it’s something extremely urgent. May I speak with you for a moment?”

IBlinking at his unusual expression, I quietly asked,

“Is this about mother?”

Although Runart is the Duke’s personal Doctor, his biggest job is taking care of my mother.

After all, the very promise he had made with me was to cure her.

Runart looked around once and answered with a dark expression.

“Yes, that’s right.”

“Is it something my sister should hear as well?”

“It would be better if you both listened together.”

“Okay, I understand.”

I nodded without further argument, then turned to Mariel.

“Sister, how about we go and listen to what Runart has to say? Yohan and Paul are with Viscount Olteva.”

Yohan had heard our entire conversation.

Even if we weren’t there, he would make sure things proceeded properly.

Mariel quietly nodded in agreement, and the two of us followed Runart toward Mother’s room.

As we left, the tiger, who had been watching us, resolutely entered Trevor’s room.

Theodore was still under house arrest.

As a result, if Rivena wanted to see him, she had to go to his palace.

Although the ban was not lifted, few people paid attention to Theodore.

Even though he hid the fact that he was a wizard, it didn’t receive much attention because no one was directly harmed.

Moreover, as quite some time had passed, surveillance on him had become lax.

So, Rivena was able to easily meet him by taking advantage of her status as his fiancée, and she quickly noticed the change.

“There are no more events like hunting competitions.”

Of course, Theodore, who was inside, could not have known about such a situation.

“And it’s not like His Majesty would suddenly release me for no reason.”

Letting out an irritated sigh, he asked,

“So? Have you found another way?”

Rivena looked at him with indifferent eyes.

The truth was, the very reason she had come was because she did have a plan.

Still, his attitude—like he was leaving everything up to her—irritated her.

She quickly composed herself and spoke calmly.

“I heard Yurika has accessed His Majesty’s personal library. I don’t know what’s inside, but it’s likely about the Medes family. That’s not good news for us.”

“Then shouldn’t you hurry up and finish your research?”

Theodore frowned with a look of pity.

“You talked as if everything was nearly done, so why are you dragging your feet like this? They’re moving forward smoothly on their end.”

Being criticized annoyed her, but Rivena couldn’t deny it.

She couldn’t keep buying time like this forever.

Besides, Yohan Hyrad was a truly frightening existence.

She still moved secretly, always afraid of being killed without anyone knowing.

“It’s mostly complete. So… I think it’s time to move forward.”

Rivena suppressed her anxiety and said.

In truth, the experimental results weren’t perfect.

But now that the tiger had ended up at the Medes ducal estate, she no longer had any materials left to continue testing.

‘I wasn’t sure if the experiment would work or not, but it was time to take a chance.’

“Viscount Olteva and his son are currently staying at the ducal estate. And with a highly skilled physician attending them, they may have already inferred something about the duchess.”

Rivena said coldly.

“We must risk everything and create the final trap.”

“Everything?”

Theodore took a deep breath with a serious expression on his face.

The fact that Rivena, who is always thinking of a way out, said something like that meant she truly intended to fight with her back against the wall.

“Yes.”

Rivena stood upright and said.

“Fortunately, His Majesty the Emperor is currently overly concerned about Yohan. He’s anxious that imperial authority may weaken—and on top of that Crown Prince Roymond’s efforts to stand out in the hunting competition have also failed.”

Theodore’s eyes narrowed. Rivena added sharply.

“We’re going to use that.”

Mother was sleeping quietly in the room.

Beside her bed, Runart spoke cautiously.

“Actually… For a long time, there was no cure for Madam’s mental disorder.”

Mariel and I looked at Runart’s face with tension.

When Runart brought up the subject so seriously, it was never about something trivial.

“I happened to treat Viscount Trevor Olteva, and that’s when I got the clue.”

“Huh?”

I tilted my head and frowned.

‘What on earth did Mother have to do with Trevor?’

“Their physical conditions are extremely similar. Everyone assumes it is senility, but Count Trevor’s symptoms are fundamentally the same as the duchess’s.”

Mariel and I looked at each other with bewildered expressions.

Come to think of it, both of them were evaluated as not being in their right minds.

“They both complain of occasional headaches, and Viscount Trevor is taking a very strange medicine. And that’s it.….”

Runart sighed deeply and continued speaking.

“It was a medicine that relieved the headache but worsened the mental state. And the source of that medicine was none other than the temple.”

My heart skipped a beat.

So this time the temple is involved again?

“A medicine from the temple.….”

I muttered under my breath.

It seemed that there was a medicine in the temple that somewhat disturbed people’s minds.

Not enough to drive someone completely insane—but sufficient to induce a degree of madness.

The reason for worsening Trevor’s mental state was painfully clear. He actually knew many of Medes’s secrets.

Because Patre considered Trevor his benefactor—the one who had raised him—he hadn’t killed him outright.

But he must have remained uneasy, gradually worsening Trevor’s condition instead.

And the reason they targeted Mother was just as obvious.

When Mariel became the head of the family, she was far too young. With no father, and a mother who wasn’t in her right mind, she had no one to rely on as she grew up.

If it weren’t for me, Medes would have slowly fallen into ruin, just like the original story.

In other words, the temple was slowly eliminating the Medes by dealing with Mariel’s guardians first.

“Then… Paul and Trevor were both deceived.”

I muttered, trembling with rage.

“They still wanted to remain loyal to Patre until the very end…”

The more I thought about it, the angrier I got.

It was a shame that Patre was already dead and that we could not take revenge.

While I was getting angry, Mariel spoke carefully.

“Then… does that mean we have to give up on Mother? Because the Temple was involved? Is there really no medical solution?”

“Oh, no.”

Runart said, pushing up his glasses.

“There’s a medicine that worsens her condition, so if we study it properly, I believe it’s possible to create a medication that improves it. It lies on the boundary between medicine and science, but still—it means we have a guide to work from.”

That was also fortunate.

My face and Mariel’s face brightened in an instant.

“But…”

Runart lowered his gaze, his expression troubled.

“There are materials we’ll need. To be honest, I don’t even have a clear idea of how to obtain them…”

Only then did I realize why Runart’s expression was so dark.

Before we could be happy with the solution, there was clearly a major hurdle to overcome.

“So, what is it?”

“It’s related to the Temple again…”

Runart took a deep breath.

“I’m more worried that if I say anything, you young ladies might be put in danger.”

His face was filled with worry. I could tell exactly what he was afraid of.

“I don’t know the details, but didn’t you say the Temple hasn’t completely fallen? This could be another trap they’ve set…”

If it were Rivena, that was absolutely something she’d do. My own reasoning led me to the same conclusion.

But even so, we couldn’t ignore a possible way to cure Mother.

That’s when I was about to tell him to speak.

“Don’t worry. Go on and tell us.”

The door opened and a low voice was heard.

It was the first time I’d heard that voice, but it felt strangely familiar. We turned around in surprise.

There stood a middle-aged man with light brown hair similar to mine and somewhat dark red eyes.

I’d never seen him before—but somehow, I knew exactly who he was.

Tears began to fall from Mariel’s eyes.

Father smiled faintly and said,

“Now I can step forward, instead of my daughters.”
