“Are you saying I’m falsely accusing innocent people because of Benjamin right now? What kind of lunatic would fabricate treason over something like that?”

“Even if you struggle like a dog, if you still can’t beat Benjamin, it wouldn’t be strange for you to go mad from inferiority!”

“S-Struggle like a dog?”

Seeing Paterson’s eyes spinning with rage, I mocked him to the fullest. “And yet you’ve never beaten Benjamin even once, have you?” Then I whispered into his trembling ear. “If you realized you were inferior to Benjamin, you should’ve known your place. How dare someone like you covet the position of chief aide? Do you know how much Benjamin laughed at you in front of me?”

“Y-You…!” Paterson’s face turned red as if it was about to explode from the continuous provocation.

I let out a mocking laugh, making sure he saw it. Inferiority and madness were vividly written all over his face.

“How dare a girl destined to become a traitor evaluate me!” Losing his composure, Paterson violently shook his body and shoved me away.

I clung to his coat pocket, refusing to let go. Rip—! As a result, Paterson’s coat pocket tore apart. A thin sheet of paper flew out and fluttered down in front of my feet.

“What… is this?” Pretending to see an unfamiliar object, I unfolded the paper. Hurriedly scribbled handwriting appeared on the high-quality parchment. I stared at the letter with a stiff face for a long moment before slowly reading it aloud. “Paterson, fabricate evidence of treason and trap Epirosa and Benjamin.”

“!”

As my voice echoed, the lobby was filled with silent shock. I didn’t stop and continued reading the letter. “A treason plan and receipts for weapon smuggling should be sufficient. And don’t forget to write Father’s name as well.”

There were three people implicated in the fabricated treason plot. Benjamin, Hubert, and I. Among us, the only one who could be called ‘Father’ was Hubert. And the one who called him ‘Father,’ the ‘sender’ of this letter, was…

“Everyone in the mansion knows you were close to Uncle Gale!”

The words I had just spoken revealed the answer to everyone gathered here. The sender of this letter was Gale.

“T-That… Gi-Give it to me!” Realizing too late what the paper was, the ‘recipient,’ Paterson, shouted as he reached toward me.

Gale also rushed at me, his face pale white. “What nonsense are you spouting right now!”

But Benjamin stepped in front of me, blocking them and pushing them back.

Taking advantage of the moment, I raised the letter high for everyone to see. “…I plan to join hands with the emperor. This time, I will definitely seize the Blanche family. Once I become the grand duke, Paterson, I will appoint you as chief aide as well.”

The letter that had come from Paterson’s pocket revealed that the treason conspiracy was, in fact, a fabricated incident. The main culprits of this scheme were Gale and Paterson. And the emperor. I looked at Benjamin, who was blocking Gale and Paterson.

It was a few days ago.

“Milady, Paterson received a secret letter from Count Gale, who is imprisoned.”

I had heard the shocking report from Benjamin.

“A secret letter from Gale? How?”

“I’m not sure. But it’s certain he received one. He unfolded and read the secret letter right in front of me while thinking I was still suffering from the curse.”

That was the very letter I had just read. After hearing Benjamin’s words, I took out the curse potion I had been keeping. It was the same potion Paterson had intended to give to Benjamin, but Benjamin had secretly brought it to me instead.

“Feed all of this to Paterson. If he suddenly takes a large amount, the effects will appear quickly.”

“Should I steal the secret letter then?”

“Yes. And return it once they start making their move.”

Kobel suddenly returned. Gale, who should have been sent to the Tower of Condemned, mysteriously disappeared. And today, when Hubert was suddenly summoned to the imperial palace, I realized it. That they had finally begun to move.

So today, I had Benjamin feed Paterson the potion again and slipped Gale’s secret letter into his pocket. The reason I deliberately provoked Paterson, making him lose his temper, and then tore his pocket was all to dramatically read this letter in front of everyone. And Hubert knew about this entire plan.

“Gi-Give me the letter!” Hector, who had finally come to his senses, shouted as he pointed his sword at my neck. The mention of the emperor seemed to have made him desperate.

If the emperor gets tied into this, it becomes difficult to cut off the tail.

This time, his sword was truly close enough to slit my throat. But I wasn’t afraid.

“Did His Majesty knowingly break the pact and attack our Blanche Mansion despite knowing the truth?”

“I said hand over the letter immediately!”

Because—

Bang!

“Drop your swords, all of you!”

I already knew the mansion doors would burst open and the Blanche family soldiers would appear.

The imperial guards were horrified. According to what they knew, it should have taken them much longer to get here from the training grounds.

The Blanche soldiers didn’t miss the moment of confusion among the imperial guards. They quickly surrounded the imperial guards and pointed their swords at them. Meanwhile, Hector, Gale, and Paterson’s faces turned deathly pale.

“Gale Blanche confessed everything. He said Grand Duke was plotting treason.”

Ignasio delightedly examined Hubert’s stiffened face. How long had he wanted to see this. The sight of Hubert Blanche utterly collapsing. A sense of triumph spread through the emperor’s chest. But it was fleeting.

Hubert’s lips suddenly curved into a smile, and then he burst into laughter. He laughed so hard, wiping away tears, as if something was utterly amusing. It was Ignasio who found himself flustered instead.

“I had my doubts, but to think the young one anticipated this far ahead.”

“What?”

Suppressing his laughter, Hubert looked up at Ignasio. Those red eyes staring directly at him felt as though they were mocking him. Ignasio’s inferiority complex exploded.

“How dare a traitor raise your head so shamelessly!”

“Your Majesty, let’s stop this here. I already know everything.”

Ignasio, whose veins had bulged in his neck, faltered. It was because Hubert had already wiped the smile from his face and was staring at him with a frightening gaze.

“That you summoned me to the imperial palace, framed me in the meantime, and attempted to raid the Blanche.”

Ignacio’s eyes wavered as if struck by a storm at Hubert’s words. He struggled to maintain his composure as he spoke. “Frame you? Are you going to say that even when evidence is presented?”

“There is no evidence. I’ve never plotted treason, so how could there be any?” Hubert spoke with confidence.

The moment Ignasio saw those unwavering eyes, he realized it. He’s already taken care of everything. His imperial guards would find nothing in the Blanche Mansion. But how did he know?! He had acted immediately after receiving the report from Gale Blanche. Never in his wildest dreams did he imagine that the young Epirosa had foreseen all of this and informed Hubert.

“Additionally, I have already summoned Blanche’s private soldiers and hidden them near the mansion. I ordered them to wait long enough before suppressing any intruders.”

Not suppress them immediately, but wait first?

Hubert had deliberately given the imperial guards time to violate the pact and commit atrocities. All to gain justification for wiping out the emperor’s imperial guards. The moment Ignasio realized that fact, chills ran down his spine.

Hubert smirked. “This time, Your Majesty will have to wager your throne.”

Hector watched in disbelief as the imperial guards were subdued by Blanche’s private soldiers. Impossible! He was a soldier who had never known failure. As the emperor’s loyal dog, he had eliminated countless political enemies in numerous operations. The position of captain of the imperial guards had been earned with blood. So had his honor. He couldn’t lose them so futilely here today.

“How dare you threaten the emperor’s imperial guards! Attack Blanche’s private soldiers immediately!”
