Loud sounds signaling the collapse of the building were heard from all directions.

There were no visible cracks or collapse yet, but the sound in my ears told me that there wasn’t enough time left before it collapsed. It felt like the vibrations were being transmitted through the wall without even having to touch it.

Before I could find a way to escape the building, I had to get Masha from that room first. Luckily, it’s not far from here to the room.

I gritted my teeth and crossed the hallway, belatedly summoning the spirit in front of me.

I heard that although I can’t exchange conversations like a communication tool, I can leave words in the form of messages. From the beginning, I had no intention of explaining the entire situation. I’m too busy for even a moment so I can’t keep talking.

The clever creature immediately realized what I was trying to do and signaled that it was okay to talk. As I lowered my voice while running, I was completely out of breath, but I didn’t stop moving.

“Sir Kade! This crazy guy is destroying the building so that we can all die together!”

Although I sounded angry without realizing it, I couldn’t help it. I was about to say more, but stopped when I saw the pillar next to me making an unusual noise.

“I don’t have time right now… I’ll contact you again after I get out. No matter what happens, don’t reverse summon the spirit. Got it?”

That was all I could say. When I arrived at the front of the room, I almost slammed the door open and found Masha who was already fidgeting in the room.

“Masha!”

I hurriedly called her name, and I saw her face brighten up when she saw me. I feel sorry to say this to a girl who had lost her mind for even a moment, but it wasn’t a situation where we could have a conversation. I immediately grabbed Masha’s arm and spat at her rapidly.

“We need to get out of this building right now. Let’s move quickly because we don’t have time.”

“What’s wrong?”

“This building is collapsing.”

Before Masha could even question my words, she froze on the spot. After shaking Masha’s body to make her come to her senses, I looked around and whispered quickly.

“Do you know where the door leading outside is?”

“I haven’t left this room since I was brought here, so… I don’t know.”

Masha’s voice, still dazed, continued stuttering, and then she spoke with a clearly downcast expression.

“I was unconscious when I was dragged in, so I couldn’t even see how I got here. If I had known this would happen, I would have walked around the building instead of just staying in my room.”

“It’s all because he locked you in the room, so don’t blame yourself. Anyway, you’ve never seen the door either?”

“Yeah. But… What is that? Fairy? Goldfish?”

Masha narrowed her eyes and looked up, perhaps belatedly having discovered the spirit next to me. If I had the time, I would have explained in detail that it’s neither fairy nor goldfish, yet I didn’t have the luxury to waste that much time.

“No, a wind spirit.”

“What? pirit?”

“I’ll explain later. Let’s get out of here first.”

As I said that, Masha pursed her lips with a pale face. Somehow, Masha also seemed to sense that we didn’t have much time.

The tremors I felt in the building were gradually spreading into shaking, and now that I had found Masha, we really had to get out of here.

But how?

In this situation, should I go looking for a door leading out of the building? But neither Masha nor I know the structure of this building. If we wander around looking for the door, we might end up wasting all our time wandering around and getting stuck.

So should I at least find a safe place in the building? This doesn’t make any more sense. It’s unlikely that a person who destroys a building with the intention of killing everyone would have prepared such a defense. Just like the door, wandering around looking for such a place is also a task.

Ah, and what’s more, I don’t think it will end just because we leave the building.

When I turned my head and looked out the window, only the pure white scenery outside was still visible. I don’t know if that view was just an illusion or some kind of shell, but I knew that I had to not only exit the building, but also cut through the background.

No matter how much I thought about it, I couldn’t figure it out. If I searched a little more calmly, I might come up with a useful solution, but the building’s vibrations began to grow, making that impossible. The more I tried to think, the more confusion my mind felt.

At that moment, what was taking over my body was a feeling that came like a habit.

A premonition that death is just around the corner, and a feeling of despair.

It feels like my already complicated mind has become completely blank, and I naturally think of the time after my death.

How long will it take to come back to life this time? And this time, where would I fall and what kind of unfamiliar place would I wander in again? I thought no matter how hard I did, I wouldn’t die, though, what should I do?

What will happen to Dante when I die?

The moment I unconsciously lowered my head, I felt a strong grip grabbing my hand.

“Ei! What’s wrong with you?”

When I suddenly raised my head, my eyes caught Masha staring at me with an impatient expression. It was only then that I realized once again that Masha was next to me, and that I had been holding her hand the whole time.

Next to me, who was frozen still, a translucent shape appeared again. The spirit hovered next to me as if it was worried about me, then brushed my cheek, making me aware of its presence.

Ah, yeah. I wasn’t the only one here.

Nothing had changed, but just reflecting on that fact seemed to bring back my lost sense of reason. Here was Masha and a spirit who could help me.

As my senses began to come back to life, my head quickly regained its composure. The ceiling hasn’t even come down yet, but it’s too early to give up. There was still time left.

I still couldn’t shake off the thought that I might die, but I was able to change my mind to the idea that even if I did die, I had to let Masha go. Of course, someone would be very sad if these thoughts were discovered.

I looked out the window again, then held on to the handle to see if I could open the window. It’s not a structure that can’t be opened at all, and I can’t open it with my own strength. It was the same even when I pulled it with Masha.

Whether it was locked tightly or blocked by magic, I had to do whatever it took to open it. When I turned around and looked at the spirit, it spun in a circle on the spot.

It felt like an animal following its owner, which made me feel much lighter.

“Can you help me? I want to open this window.”

When I said so, a gentle movement followed as if it understood.

Amid the noise and vibration that I was becoming increasingly accustomed to, an unfamiliar wind began to gather from somewhere. The wind that passed by the ankles circled in front of the spirit in the shape of a circle, then picked up speed and swirled faster and faster.

A small storm the size of the palm of a hand was created for a moment, and the winds rushed towards the window.

 ㅡClank!

“…Ooh.”

In an instant, the glass pane of the window completely shattered. I reflexively stepped back to avoid the shards of glass, and Masha, who had also retreated, muttered in a panicked voice.

“I-It did open.”

“Um, sure.”

I don’t know if I can say that it was opened, though.

But since the spirit was still moving energetically next to me, I didn’t bother to say the thought out loud.

When I put my head out the window, Masha was startled and grabbed me.

“What’s wrong with you?!”

“No, I think the only way left is to jump out the window. But I can’t see the floor straight.”

“What? Jump out?”

“Yeah.”

For some reason, Masha’s expression looked like she was on the verge of fainting, but I didn’t really care. As I peered out of the building, being careful not to get stabbed by the shards of glass left on the window frames, I was struck by the sight of pure white above and below.

It’s as if this building was built on a piece of paper so wide that the end can’t be seen. I looked down to gauge the height, then realized it was pointless and straightened up.

“…How is it? Do you think it’s low enough to jump?”

“I’m not sure about that.”

I answered in a calm voice, but it wasn’t in my mind. Even if you ask the wind spirit to slow down when falling, the effect will be minimal if you fall from an infinitely high place. Would it be a good thing if I just broke my leg? There was no answer if it was really just a matter of saving my life.

But what is even more unanswerable is this situation. The moment I thought that, a large crack appeared in the wall next to me.

Masha took a breath and took a step back, yet she stumbled from the shaking of the building. Debris-like fragments fell on our heads to the sound of an accelerated cycle. It’s of a negligible size now, but even if some time passes here, a stone that can kill us instantly will fall if it hits us.

I cut off my thoughts midway and blindly stretched my hand out the window. Even though it seems like a really empty place, I thought there would be a space where I could throw myself.

But at that moment, what I felt in my arms wasn’t empty space.

Something ‘touched’ my hand. As if there was a wall right in front of the building.

“…”

Outside, where only colors can be recognized yet not seen as reality, I touched something that exists there even though it can’t be seen. At first, I thought it was my imagination, so I flinched and put my hand back, but when I swept the area again, I became more sure.

There is something here now. If I were to guess, there is something disconnecting this building from the ‘real’ outside.

As soon as I realized that fact, I clenched my fist and punched the outside.

ㅡBang!

I heard the sound of something breaking, along with the pain traveling through my hand.
