I’m Trying to End This Possession Chapter 77
“No. It’s just, I think it might feel a little awkward.”
“What would?”
“Since it’s a private moment.”
“I’m the one doing it. You only have to watch. Is that difficult?”
“…”
As if he were teaching simple arithmetic, Viego spoke plainly. “This is an old family tradition passed down to the heads of the Windsor family. Whether you like it or not, it’s a duty. There’s no need to mix personal feelings into it.”
I see. So there’s nothing wrong with it. A strong sense of dissonance washed over her. She and Viego truly were people from different eras, different worlds.
“Do I just sign here?”
“Yes.”
As Dana signed the bottom of the document, she felt strangely unsettled. “Who is your marriage partner?”
“A lady from the Rolland family.”
Meaning he intended to marry just any suitable lady from the Rolland family. A marriage completely devoid of emotion, something common in this world.
So he’s continuing the political marriages with the Rolland family. Come to think of it, Carl and Sandra had also been in a political marriage. She had heard they’d been engaged since before they were born.
“When will it happen?”
“If it’s fast, within two months. At the latest, within half a year.”
“Ah, I see…”
The moment Dana finished signing, another document was immediately placed before her. Wow, that’s a lot of work. He was giving her a lot to do. It was a good sign, especially because…
“I’ll entrust you with the construction of the railway in Kaltusa territory.”
He had entrusted her with something enormous.
“Yes. Thank you for entrusting it to me. I’ll do my best.”
Since it meant he trusted her that much, Dana was deeply moved. Viego was giving her this kind of responsibility, after all.
“And I heard that Uncle Carl discovered the Retillan mine in Kaltusa. Is that true?”
At those words, Dana nearly laughed. As expected. Carl Windsor, I knew it. Just how long has it been since they returned to Windsor, and he’s already started working on it. See? That’s why you shouldn’t be fooled. In front of her, he had acted so indifferent about it.
“Retillan, huh. I think I saw something like that, but… actually, I wasn’t in good condition at that time, so I can’t be sure.” Dana subtly distanced herself, neither confirming nor denying it. That way, even if Carl Windsor’s mining business completely collapsed, she would bear no responsibility. “I think it would be better to ask Uncle directly.”
Dana felt good. Everything felt right. Her relationship with Viego has improved significantly. It was a change that began after her abilities had been acknowledged. At this rate, Carl would smoothly head toward ruin. The vacant deputy head position can only be filled by me, a direct descendant of the Windsor family. Carl Windsor’s holy relic. That deputy head’s ring would soon be hers.
Dana hummed to herself, desperately hoping things would continue exactly like this. However,
“Come to think of it, there’s something I haven’t told you yet.”
“What?”
“Ignis de Windsor is here.”
“…”
Ah… Her mood was ruined.
* * *
Ignis de Windsor. A man who had once been the adopted child of the Windsor family. He had originally come from a fallen noble family and was adopted into the Windsor household after catching Danae’s grandfather’s attention. Possessing extraordinary talent, he had reportedly been a prodigy who competed for first place at the military academy during his youth.
But later, he chose to annul the adoption himself and remove himself from the family. The reason was only vaguely known as a severe conflict with Danae’s grandfather, Rodrigo Windsor. However, Rodrigo had apparently wanted Ignis to remain in the Windsor family until the very end. Maybe he genuinely cared for him. That was why Ignis had never been fully permitted to abandon the Windsor surname entirely.
Most importantly, that man was just a complete b*stard.
“Well, well, Dana. Long time no see. You’ve gotten prettier since I last saw you.”
Dana looked at the man with gloomy eyes. He really came. And to run into him so quickly… She had simply been taking a walk through the night garden after a long time. But someone blocked her path.
A tall man with red and fierce eyes. Ignis de Windsor. One of the people she disliked.
“The last time I saw you, you still smelled like milk.”
And you’re still vulgar and trashy. That was what Dana thought inwardly.
“Lord Ignis. It’s been a long time.”
“Yeah, yeah. You missed me a lot, didn’t you?” Ignis suddenly grabbed a fistful of her hair and shook it around. “Your white hair’s still pretty. Makes me want to cut it all off.”
“I didn’t expect you to return.” Ignoring the habitual provocation thrown at her, Dana replied calmly. “Didn’t you say you’d never return to Windsor again?”
Ignis was practically treated as though he didn’t exist in Windsor. Hardly anyone in the Windsor family even mentioned his name. And it was for a good reason. The last time he came to the Windsor Mansion, he caused every kind of disturbance and outrage imaginable. And then he left while screaming every curse he could think of, saying he’d never associate with Windsor again. That was why even mentioning him had become almost taboo. Yet here he was, boldly returning.
“Ah, that’s right. But I changed my mind.” Ignis shrugged nonchalantly. “Living away for so long made me miss home. I did live here for a while, after all.”
“Is that so?”
“Yeah, yeah. I missed it so much.” As he said that, Ignis roughly wrapped her hair around his hand and yanked her closer before whispering into her ear. “I even found myself thinking about an airheaded b*tch like you sometimes.”
“…”
It had been a long time since she’d heard such vivid profanity. As expected, he’s still a disgusting human being.
“What are you doing?”
At that moment, a soft voice, very different from Ignis’s, was heard.
“Ignis.”
It was Carl.
The moment he appeared, Dana tensed sharply. To be honest, she was far, far more afraid of that man than of Ignis.
“Aah, Brother Carl. Hi. It’s been a while.” Ignis, still holding onto Dana’s hair, grinned widely. “You’ve gotten even smoother-looking, Brother. Ah, I hear there are countless noblewomen suffering heartache because of you. The rumors are everywhere.”
“You seem to be doing well too, Ignis. I think you should let go of Dana’s hair now.” Carl spoke quietly, yet firmly. “It’s far too rude.”
“Haha, Brother is still so kind.”
“Ignis.” Carl smiled softly. “Let go.”
“…”
Ignis narrowed his eyes and glared at Carl for a moment before spitting out a short curse and finally releasing Dana’s hair. “Yeah, yeah. I’m not some ten-year-old brat anymore. I’m past the age of playing around by grabbing girls’ hair.” He glanced at the two of them and chuckled. “Looks like you’re still busy taking care of Danae. Can’t even see your wife or your daughter, huh?”
