Ah, you’re here.” Diana, who had been sitting on the sofa, stood up with a welcoming expression as she greeted Kayden.

Without hesitation, he strode over, opened his arms, and pulled her into his embrace. Resting his chin on Diana’s shoulder, Kayden let out a contented sigh. He lightly brushed his lips against her shoulder and asked softly.

“Are you okay?”

“With what?”

“The first princess?”

“Why wouldn’t I be? …Ouch. What are you doing?”

Diana had smiled casually, but then she winced and scolded Kayden. He had bit down on her shoulder, causing a sharp pain. Yet Kayden didn’t act guilty at all. Instead, he met her gaze boldly, his expression unrepentant.

“Don’t lie.”

“…How did you know?”

“When you lie, only your mouth smiles. Your eyes look like they’re about to cry.”

At his words, Diana unconsciously raised her hand to touch her mouth. The forced smile she had been holding began to fade away. A faint confusion lingered in her blue-violet eyes.

After a moment of silence, Diana finally pulled Kayden into a tight embrace and muttered with a sigh. “To be honest, I don’t know.”

Before her regression, she had learned through this incident that it wasn’t Rebecca’s intention for her to be falsely accused. But that didn’t mean her long-held resentment disappeared overnight. She did feel some sympathy for Rebecca, who had been thoroughly deceived by Duke Findlay.

A tangled web of emotions stirred in her heart. If she had to choose just one word that best described her feelings for Rebecca, it was only one. Love-hate. A state where two completely different emotions coexist.

Kayden gently nipped at Diana’s earlobe as he asked, his hand casually sliding up her waist. “Either way, we’ll know by the day after tomorrow. If she wants to join the fight, I told the guards to have her join the imperial knight.”

“Do you want her to come?”

“Logically, yes. Every bit of strength is needed right now.”

“You think she’ll come… Ah! What do you think you’re doing?” Diana grabbed Kayden’s hand, which had started to roam toward her chest.

Kayden blinked innocently, tilting his head. His expression was that of a naive boy, though his wandering hand suggested otherwise. “Isn’t a husband allowed to touch his wife? You really liked it last time, remember…?”

“…Be quiet.”

“You’re always telling me to be quiet. If you make me sad, you need to take responsibility.”

“What kind of nonsense is that…?” Diana muttered in exasperation, but Kayden remained shameless.

In the end, Diana was once again trapped by Kayden’s audacity, staying with him until dawn’s light began to peek through the windows. Outside, a bitter cold wind raged, but inside their room, the warmth made it seem as though the seasons didn’t exist.

Finally, it was the day of departure. The fifth knight order, led by Duke Wibur and Duke Wicksvil, remained to guard the palace while the rest of the forces lined up in front of the palace gate.

“Your Highness.” Duke Yelling spoke in a low voice, bowing deeply.

As Kayden turned to face him, the duke whispered. “The command of the first and third orders…” Duke Yelling trailed off, a rare hesitation in his voice. It wasn’t hard to guess why.

Kayden subtly glanced at the first and third orders. Everyone seems busy trying to read the room.

The knights of the first and third orders wore anxious expressions. It was understandable. Their leader, Duke Findlay, had committed an unimaginable act of treason and fled, while Rebecca had been imprisoned. Losing their commander so suddenly must have left them feeling uneasy.

But understanding and accepting are two different things. Duke Findlay had sealed himself inside his mansion, resisting all kinds of mutated monsters and magical devices. To bring him down, these soldiers needed to be more united and motivated than ever.

…Is she not coming?

Diana, unable to reveal her full strength, had planned to join the Wings guild members after pretending to see Kayden off. She stood by Kayden, subconsciously glancing toward the tower. But the tower remained eerily silent.

“There’s no helping it.”

Kayden finally spoke, his expression hardening as he gave orders to Duke Yelling. “You’ll have to command both the first and second orders while I lead the third and fourth orders. Managing two orders won’t be easy, but—”

“Your Highness!”

A sudden cry interrupted him. Everyone standing at the front gate tensed and turned toward the voice. But their alertness quickly shifted to surprise.

Diana’s eyes widened as she spotted a figure walking through the first order.

Rebecca, wrapped in a cloak, stopped in front of Kayden. Glancing briefly at Diana, she spoke with her usual elegant yet arrogant tone. “Next time, make sure to tell me the exact time. Don’t mess things up by being careless.”

Ah… yes.” Kayden, caught off guard by her demeanor, responded instinctively.

As soon as he did, Rebecca turned and walked to the front of the first order. She clicked her tongue in disapproval at the knights, who stared at her in disbelief. “You all look like you’ve lost your mind. You’d be better off dying by my hand here than on the battlefield.”

At her words, the knights of the first order immediately straightened their backs. They had never imagined how comforting it would be to hear such a harsh reprimand again. With their commander now in place, the knights began to regain their usual composure.

Kayden chuckled softly and spoke again. “I’ll repeat the order. Only the third order will follow my direct command. The other orders will operate as usual. Any objections?”

“None, Your Highness!”

The resounding answer echoed through the air. Rebecca winced at the loud response and let out a silent sigh.

I must be crazy. In truth, she was already regretting her decision.

“There’s no reason for me to do that guy any favors.”

Initially, Rebecca had planned to ignore Kayden’s request altogether. She had watched the dawn break from her bed, deliberately not getting up. She had even pulled the blanket over her head.

“I’m your person, Your Highness. You made me human.”

But instead, the darkness seemed to taunt her with strange echoes and flickering images in her mind. Fragmented memories often surface more frequently than whole ones. It leaves a lingering discomfort.

In the end, cursing under her breath, Rebecca had thrown off the covers, hastily dressed, and rushed here. It was something she would never have done under normal circumstances as a proud member of the imperial family.

Yes, I must be crazy. This was all the result of her confused mind, spurred on by vague illusions and impulsive whims. Rebecca repeated this to herself several times, trying to hold back the urge to glance toward Diana.

It was a week later, near Duke Findlay’s mansion.

“How many days has it been?”

“More than four by now.”

Ugh, this is unbearable. All this trouble is because of one madman, and the innocent people are the ones suffering.”

Villagers with baskets on their hips whispered to each other. Their eyes were all fixed on Duke Findlay’s mansion, which was enveloped in black smoke.

It had been five days since the main forces of Valhanas arrived at the territory. But they were struggling to break through the heavily fortified walls, made worse by the hordes of mutated monsters surrounding the mansion.

“I’ll vouch for their identities. They’re allies, so treat them with respect.”

The monsters, which were nearly invincible without the power of dark-attribute spirits, would have wiped out one of the orders if not for Diana.

Kayden had introduced Diana and the Wings guild members in that way. At first, the knights had eyed the black-robed guild members with suspicion, but after seeing them in battle, their attitudes changed completely.

The only issue was that Rebecca had witnessed Diana’s abilities. Kayden and Diana were concerned that Rebecca might recognize the power of the dark-attribute spirit and expose it, but surprisingly, she remained silent.

Despite the difficulties, the knights were slowly surrounding the mansion.

“They’re supposed to breach the walls today.”

“Let’s hope they do. It’s one thing to catch a bad guy, but I just hope no one else has to suffer.”

“You’re right. In that case, we should cook them some food.”

“I’ll help.”

With that, the villagers rolled up their sleeves and hurried back to their homes, hoping that the battle would finally come to an end.
