⌞ Where is that place? Please share!

⌞ Where is it…! So jealous…!

⌞ Is that really a sanctuary…?

⌞ I thought it was just a crazy dream, but it’s actually a revelation?

⌞ Please share the location! ㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ

⌞ A new god appearing after all these years is incredible. Not that it has anything to do with me… (The god I serve is pretty possessive, so… awkward… 😉 Good luck to everyone challenging the sanctuary!

⌞ If it’s a combat-oriented god, the trials are gonna be insanely tough. There’ll probably be a lot of casualties today. Only the hyenas are gonna be thrilled.

⌞ Hey, jerk, if you’re not gonna share the location, don’t post crap like this.

⌞ I think I know where that is. It’s near my place.

⌞ If you know, then freaking say it!

⌞ Looks like Hwaseong City, ㅿㅿ District…?

⌞ Yeah, it’s near Dungeon 388.

⌞ I’m heading there right now. Just wait!

Finding the place where the new god had descended wasn’t particularly difficult.

And it made sense why. As I mentioned earlier, it had been a whopping three years since a new god appeared. And a combat-oriented god, not a creation-oriented one, hadn’t shown up in almost a decade.

Most gods had appeared on Earth thirty-five years ago, following the first transcendent being, the <black king>. That black dragon, adorned with grandiose titles like “Emissary of the Void” or “Child of the Abyss,” was, to put it simply, a cosmic menace.

No one knew when or where the Black King came from. It was like a black hole, drifting leisurely through the universe, swallowing every bit of energy it encountered. As a result, spacetime was erased, and countless gods faced threats to their existence.

The gods had tirelessly worked to defeat the Black King. After fighting for an unimaginable length of time by human reckoning, they finally succeeded in cornering it.

Just as the Black King was on the verge of extinction, stripped of the energy it had devoured over time, a nuclear war broke out on Earth.

No one knows how the nuclear war started.

There’s no evidence, no witnesses, no records—nothing remains. And it’s likely we’ll never uncover the reason why.

In any case, just as the massive nuclear energy was about to obliterate Earth, the Black King sensed it, leaped through spacetime, and arrived. It then consumed all the nuclear energy that would have been fatal to humanity and, afterward, hid deep in the Pacific Ocean to slumber.

It seemed to have a case of post-meal drowsiness.

Humanity, on the brink of annihilation due to the sudden nuclear war, was saved by the Black King’s arrival. But it wasn’t exactly cause for celebration. The Black King’s presence drew in gods from across the universe, whose existence humanity hadn’t even known about.

The arrival of the gods caused Earth to suffer greatly. The interference of their immense power blurred the boundaries of spacetime, creating countless rifts to other dimensions.

As a result, there was a risk that the Black King, sleeping in the deep sea, might slip into another dimension. If that happened, the gods would lose their golden opportunity to defeat it.

Fearing they might ruin things by intruding on a small planet like Earth, the gods decided against direct intervention and chose to use proxies to deal with the Black King.

The beings they selected were humans.

Humans were far too frail to be of much use, but the gods decided to lend their power to those who sought salvation.

In exchange for defeating the Black King before it awoke from its slumber, humans were promised the survival of Earth and the prosperity of humanity.

…That said, not every awakened one cared about the Black King’s destruction or the rebuilding of civilization.

Most were far more interested in personal wealth and glory.

You could tell just by looking at the crowd swarming this sanctuary.

I let out a sigh and turned off the phone I’d been staring at. Then I stepped out of the jeep, slamming the door shut with a bang!

It was just before dawn, and the morning mist was spreading over the ridge. The sun was still far from rising, but the area around the sanctuary was as bright as midday.

Already, several well-known raiding parties had set up their flags under the lighting towers. Fearless hunters who had rushed in, hyenas looking for scraps, streamers gathered to broadcast live, alchemists and peddlers out to make a profit, porters, and even street vendors selling kimbap or coffee were bustling about.

It was utterly absurd.

“It’s only been a few hours since the sanctuary appeared. No wonder they call us the ‘hurry-hurry nation’—the speed is practically lightspeed.”

Even though I’d come straight here without delay after receiving the revelation, the place was already packed with all sorts of riffraff. A big reason for that was the location of the sanctuary being shared on HunterLog, the app every awakened one had installed.

I’d found the sanctuary thanks to that too, but it wasn’t exactly welcome news. Already, I could hear murmurs directed at me as people whispered among themselves.

“Isn’t that Kim Yitae?”

“Whoa! To think I’d see Team Breaker here.”

“They say ever since he became a magic swordsman, he walks around with a face thick as steel. Guess it’s true. Well, he’s A-rank now, so what’s he got to fear?”

“By the way, what’s he doing here? Isn’t being chosen by the Golden Emperor enough for him?”

I let their words go in one ear and out the other, but suddenly the noise stopped. Looking up, I saw Heesoo hyung stepping out of the jeep.

The idiots who’d fallen silent didn’t even seem to know why they’d shut up. They just stared at Heesoo hyung in a daze, only muttering again when he slowly walked toward the cargo area.

“Who’s that?”

“No way that’s Kim Yitae’s partner, right?”

“Come on, he’s famous for going solo ever since he left Aec1. Even back when he was a jack-of-all-trades, he didn’t have a partner. Now that he’s A-rank, why would he need one?”

“If it’s not a partner, then who is it? That face looks kinda familiar…”

“Well, must be some big shot. To be hanging out with Kim Yitae…”

“Not sure about anything else, but that face is definitely A-rank.”

I was surprised that people didn’t recognize Heesoo hyung. It just showed how much his aura had changed.

Honestly, I was relieved. It was better than them recognizing him and starting all sorts of gossip.

I opened the bag in the cargo area and started organizing my gear. I’d packed in such a hurry that I’d brought a lot of useless stuff. I planned to leave behind anything unnecessary and take only what was essential.

I’d been worried about the lack of shops around, but seeing the crowd gathered here, it seemed like a needless concern. If I needed something, I could probably trade for it.

Then, an unwelcome presence approached.

I pretended not to notice the person coming closer. But they ignored my attempt to brush them off and insisted on greeting me.

“Yitae sunbae!”

“…”

“Yitae sunbae!”

They tapped my shoulder and called me sunbae again, so I turned around with a scowl.

“Hey, I told you not to call me sunbae. It makes people misunderstand!”

Even after my reprimand, the self-proclaimed junior just grinned cheekily.

“Sorry about that. The word sunbae just sticks in my mouth, and I can’t help it.”

The guy was a head taller than me. His shoulders were twice as broad, and one of his thighs was as thick as my waist. I’m not exactly small, but I couldn’t compare to him.

His name was Yoon Younghyun, a former member of the now-defunct Aec1. He’d been a solo player for a while before switching to a tank role and leading a mercenary-style raiding party.

I’d worked with him back in Aec1. At the time, Younghyun was a rookie who was lucky not to be trolling. After helping him out a few times, he started calling me sunbae and following me around eagerly.

But since I was just a contractor at Aec1, I wasn’t technically his sunbae. And considering how things ended with Aec1, it was even less fitting.

I gave him a sour look. Younghyun flashed a sly smile, as if trying to smooth over my irritation.

Given the place, he didn’t waste time with idle chatter. He got straight to the point.

“I’m glad to see you, sunbae, but what brings you here?”

I replied gruffly.

“What, am I not allowed to be here?”

“No, it’s just weird. Why would an A-rank magic swordsman need another god’s power? It doesn’t seem like your level’s high enough for that yet…”

“You even know my level to talk like that?”

“Level aside, it must be tough enough just handling the Golden Emperor’s favor.”
