Resurrection Chapter 31 - Call me your boyfriend

As I glared at him with a reddened face, huffing and puffing, he licked his wet lips and smirked.

“Now that I’ve tried it, it’s not such a big deal.”

“What kind of bullshit is that, you fucking son of a bitch!”

I had never sworn at Heesoo hyung before, but the curses just flew out of my mouth now. Seeing red, regardless of whether the opponent was a transcendent being or whatever, I clenched my fist and swung it without any mercy.

Thwack!

With the sound of flesh tearing, Ulfheðinn’s head snapped to the side. I, who had expected him to naturally dodge or block it, flinched.

I did not know what kind of son of a bitch the essence was, but the body belonged to Heesoo hyung. To think I even hit a body that was already in pain from the aftereffects of divine descent.

I unknowingly unclenched my fist and began to ramble in a fluster.

“Ah…! Hee, Heesoo hyung. It’s not that I meant to hit you…”

At my reaction, he turned his head back to its original position, touched his split lip, and smiled.

“Quite thrilling, isn’t it?”

“Ugh…”

“If I let you hit me more, can I kiss you one more time?”

“As if that would ever happen!”

As I flew into a rage with my face turning red and purple, he laughed out loud, “Haha,” as if he found it amusing. I truly did not know what to do and just stood there blankly. It was even more so because I could not comprehend what this fucked up situation was.

Heesoo hyung… no, Ulfheðinn gazed intently at me as I stood there, unable to do anything. He reached his hand out to me again, then folded his fingers back and spoke.

“If I had my way, I would like to stay with you a little longer, but I suppose I cannot.”

Is he finally going to leave!

As my face lit up, Ulfheðinn smiled with a bitter expression.

“Do not be so happy. I am only returning because my power is depleted. I will be back soon.”

My expression changed. For Ulfheðinn to say he would perform divine descent habitually was an extremely dangerous statement. I flared up and shouted.

“You must not come again! That is an act that will drive your apostle to his death!”

There was no answer.

Ulfheðinn closed his eyes, and Heesoo hyung’s body slowly collapsed. I quickly ran over and caught Heesoo hyung, who had gone into a blackout state, and laid him on the floor.

The expression on the unconscious Heesoo hyung’s face was peaceful, but my own feelings were incomparably troubled. Was I too hasty, not knowing what kind of god the new god was?

Somehow, a premonition that making Heesoo hyung the first apostle of Ulfheðinn was the wrong choice crept over me.

👑

Although Ulfheðinn had returned, I could not leave the dungeon. The entrance was not visible, perhaps because it was still before sunrise.

Even if the entrance were open, I could not just rashly run outside. I had been warned about the situation outside the dungeon, so I had to at least wake Heesoo hyung up before going out.

Checking the time, there were about 30 minutes left until the dungeon opened. By now, Heesoo hyung’s HP should have recovered from the bottom, so I used an awakening spell with the intention of waking and caring for him.

“Wake.”

My magic awakened his muddled mind. As soon as Heesoo hyung opened his eyes, he let out a groan. His entire body must be aching from the aftereffects of divine descent.

“Ugh…”

“Hyung, drink this first.”

Even though I knew that no particular medicine worked for divine sickness, I handed him a painkiller. After taking it and sitting up, Heesoo hyung looked around and asked.

“What happened?”

“That is what I want to ask. Why on earth did you perform a divine descent?”

“Divine descent? Did I perform a divine descent?”

I got angry at his bewildered question.

“It was not a situation dangerous enough to warrant a divine descent! If you were going to use divine descent, you should have told me to use Laevateinn instead, why needlessly chip away at your lifespan? Don’t you know that divine descent is a method to be used only as a very last resort?”

Seeing me fuming with anger, Heesoo hyung seemed to be recalling what had happened. He swept back his disheveled hair and said in a tone of someone trying to remember.

“Ah, I saw the Lizardman Captain throwing a harpoon spear at Mr. Yitae… I think I did it without realizing.”

I unleashed a barrage of nagging, and Heesoo hyung listened obediently. If Heesoo hyung had grumbled about how it was for my sake or whatever, I would have gotten even angrier, but because he said nothing with a repentant look, I could not go on for long. As I fell silent, exhausted from my own tirade, a flood of emotions washed over me.

Even with the same appearance, the difference between it being Heesoo hyung and not was excessively large. Seeing the returned Heesoo hyung, a wave of affection for him welled up anew.

I grabbed his hand, which was resting on the floor, and said.

“I will say it again, do not use divine descent next time. Do you have any idea how startled I was? That bastard named Ulfheðinn, in Heesoo hyung’s form, did some kind of…”

Grumbling out of indignation, I shut my mouth midway. The memory of unintentionally kissing Heesoo hyung came to mind, and my face flushed bright red.

I hastily let go of his hand and tacked on whatever came to mind.

“Anyway, absolutely do not use divine descent!”

Noticing something strange from my demeanor, Heesoo hyung furrowed his brow slightly and asked.

“What happened when Ulfheðinn descended?”

“He slaughtered all the lizardmen and we escaped to this point. I am grateful for that, but it just feels strange to see someone else with Heesoo hyung’s face, you know.”

At my evasive words, Heesoo hyung thought for a moment before nodding.

“I understand what you are talking about. It was the same when the Golden Emperor descended upon you, Mr. Yitae.”

I was surprised by the unexpected story.

“Huh? You are saying you saw the Golden Emperor?”

Since it must have been right after he died and came back to life, I did not think he would have really encountered the Golden Emperor. And there was no way the Golden Emperor would have lingered for a long time like Ulfheðinn.

Just as I had guessed, Heesoo hyung’s meeting with the Golden Emperor must have been brief. He smiled what could be called a wry smile and said.

“He told me to do well.”

“He said that to you, Heesoo hyung?”

“Yes.”

That meddlesome old fool! What did he say to Heesoo hyung?

Feeling embarrassed, I quickly said.

“You do not need to pay it any mind. Ignore it, just ignore it.”

As soon as I uttered those words, the Golden Emperor sent a message, fuming.

—The Golden Emperor rebukes you, asking how you could tell him to ignore words spoken out of concern for you. He asks what you are going to do about the rude act that man committed against you just a moment ago. He laments, wondering if it was not a reveal of the dark intentions he usually harbors, using divine descent as an excuse.

The Golden Emperor brought up what happened earlier, adding to my embarrassment. I gritted my teeth and quickly reported to the Golden Emperor.

‘The one who pushed his snout forward was Ulfheðinn, not Heesoo hyung. It is not Heesoo hyung’s fault. Dark intentions he usually harbors? You are gravely misinterpreting.’

—The Golden Emperor points out that since Seo Heesoo has become the first and only apostle of Ulfheðinn, the two of them are as good as one body.

‘I find it difficult to agree with that statement. I am also Your Majesty’s first and only apostle, but do I not have different opinions from Your Majesty?’

—The Golden Emperor laments that that is the problem.

I put the Golden Emperor’s message out of my mind. As if guessing my situation, Heesoo hyung continued.

“It seems the Golden Emperor cares for you a great deal, Mr. Yitae. I will keep that in mind and do my best.”

“You are already doing well enough, so there is no need to do better. More importantly… did Ulfheðinn say anything?”

At my question, Heesoo hyung shook his head.

Not all gods were meddlesome fools like the Golden Emperor. Most were solemn and authoritative.

Ulfheðinn did not seem particularly solemn or authoritative either, but seeing as he had not said anything to Heesoo hyung, it did not seem like he had any particular attachment to him. It was strange that he seemed to have an excessive interest in me instead.

In any case, it was a relief that he had not said anything for now. If Heesoo hyung were to find out that Ulfheðinn had kissed me while in his descended state, with his personality, he would not know what to do. He would surely apologize repeatedly and blame himself.

Our relationship could have become extremely awkward, so since he did not remember, I hoped he would not find out until the end. I was also planning to forget about it as if it never happened.

I needlessly raised a hand and rubbed my lips once with the back of it before speaking.

“Anyway, since we leveled up, we have achieved our purpose for coming into the dungeon. How many skills were unlocked?”

Heesoo hyung, who was now Lv. 57, answered.

“The passive skills are the same, and one active skill has been opened.”

“You must have gained quite a bit of proficiency too, right?”

“Yes. A few of the skills seem like they will evolve soon.”

I nodded. Since Heesoo hyung had massacred the lizardmen while in a state of divine descent, he must have accumulated a lot of experience points as well as skill proficiency. I thought he would reach the next level quickly, but Heesoo hyung shook his head.

“Now that I have gotten used to this place, it would be better to frequent this dungeon for a while with the goal of clearing the spots.”

I furrowed my brows.

“What? Clearing? Hyung, this is an S-rank dungeon. We managed to get out alive today with resurrection and divine descent, but it is impossible for just the two of us to clear it.”

“It might be impossible in one go, but if we subdue the monsters little by little, it might be possible. Above all, my level will continue to rise in the meantime. In my opinion, after we clear the boss mob spot in this dungeon, I will likely break through level 60. Then I will be able to receive an S-rank evaluation, so most people will not even think of targeting you, Mr. Yitae.”

Author's Thoughts

It's actually Ulfheðinn not the term 'Wolfhedin'. My oversight, as I was plainly transliterating from the hangul rather than researching the word.
Ulfheðinn is a Norse warrior who fought in a trance-like fury or frenzy wearing a wolfskin cloak. It's a commonly used character. There are other characters in this novel, which are referred from Nordic myths.
