Resurrection Chapter 87 - This Is More Like You
“Sunbae-nim! You’re here!”
I was so dumbfounded that I snorted and asked.
“Who are you calling sunbae?”
“You’re our captain’s sunbae, so you’re our sunbae too.”
“Do you have a hobby of bursting your sunbae’s head with a headlock?”
“That was the captain’s order, so I couldn’t help it. As you know, Captain Younghyun isn’t just a captain…”
“Ah, you mean he’s your oh-so-great clan leader, is that it?”
As I grumbled intensely, Kim Mina said.
“Even so, we have committed a mortal sin against you, sunbae-nim, and especially against Mr. Seo Heesoo.”
Kim Mina signaled to her comrades with her eyes, and the werewolves all knelt on the floor at once and apologized.
“We are truly sorry for what happened last time!”
“We were wrong!”
“We’ve committed a mortal sin!”
“Please forgive us!”
What’s with these guys?
I was planning to beat them to a pulp if they started any trouble, so this completely deflated me. Did Yoon Younghyun strictly warn them not to mess with me before he left? But instead of feeling better, the thought that these cunning bastards were putting on a show made my anger flare up. I clenched my fists, making a cracking sound.
“If you’ve done wrong, you should be punished, right? Don’t resist, no matter what I do.”
I was about to give them a beating that would send dog fur flying, but Heesoo hyung stopped me.
“Punishing them now isn’t our purpose, is it? We have things to do, so let’s just get straight to the point.”
“Aren’t you angry, hyung? Because of these bastards, what you went through…!”
“If you’ll feel better after hitting them, Mr. Yitae, then do so. But from what I can see, I don’t think that will be the case.”
I was angry, but Heesoo hyung was right. There was no way I would feel better just by throwing a few punches.
These guys were just sons of bitches who followed their clan leader’s words unconditionally, according to their instincts. If I were to vent my anger, it should be on Yoon Younghyun, so I grumbled and unclenched my fists.
“You all would be dead if it weren’t for Heesoo hyung. Don’t call me sunbae for no reason. Think of Heesoo hyung as your savior and treat him well!”
“Yes, sir!”
“We’ll keep that in mind!”
“Thank you!”
They sure answer loudly and well. I glared at them with a dissatisfied look and said.
“Where did your captain go?”
I hadn’t particularly looked around the office, but Heesoo hyung, with his usual intuition, realized that Yoon Younghyun wasn’t here and opened his mouth.
“He’s not here. But it seems he was here and then left. Min Gongchan was here too. His presence lingers.”
Turning to him, I asked back, “Really?” and confirmed it with Kim Mina. She answered.
“Special Task Force’s Mr. Kang Cheoljun and a person named Min Gongchan came here with the captain.”
“Then where did they all go?”
“Mr. Kang Cheoljun returned to Iicheong, and the captain left with Min Gongchan, but… something just arrived a moment ago.”
As she said that, Kim Mina waved her hands. Then, one of the werewolves who was still kneeling on the floor quickly got up and brought over a box that had been placed in a corner of the office.
It looked to be nearly 2 meters in diameter and almost 1 meter wide. It looked extremely large and heavy, and it was sealed in thick plastic, as if it had been received via quick delivery. He held the whole thing out, and I gestured to Kim Mina with my chin.
“You open it.”
Without delay, Kim Mina used her claws to tear open the box. Rip, rip. The plastic tore like paper, revealing a black-painted box.
The box had no flaws, but for some reason, it felt ancient. Unlike the plain box, the lock was engraved with a pattern so delicate it made your eyes dizzy.
Of course, it was highly suspicious.
I squinted my eyes and asked.
“What is this?”
“Mr. Min Gongchan said it was something for Mr. Seo Heesoo. We were about to look for you to deliver this, but you’ve unexpectedly arrived early.”
At the unexpected words, my eyes widened slightly.
“Min Gongchan? To Heesoo hyung?”
“That is correct.”
I turned to look at Heesoo hyung. He, without any particular sign of surprise, knelt on one knee beside the box and leaned over. He readily reached for the box, and I hurriedly stopped him.
“Wait a minute! How do you know what’s inside? What if something strange pops out?”
“It does not particularly seem like a strange object.”
“It’s from Min Gongchan! How can you trust that guy? Have you already forgotten we almost burned to death in his trap?”
“Aren’t you the one who trusts Min Gongchan, Mr. Yitae?”
His sudden question made me pause. He looked up at me and continued.
“If you didn’t trust him, you wouldn’t have thought of getting my weapon through him.”
I fumbled for words, my lips quivering. I wanted to argue that it didn’t necessarily mean I trusted Min Gongchan, but it somehow felt like a lame excuse.
That was partly because Heesoo hyung’s attitude when mentioning Min Gongchan was strangely cold. His tone was as if he were pointing out that I was unconsciously concerned about Min Gongchan.
I hesitated and then said.
“…Still, wait a moment. Let’s put up a barrier around us, just in case.”
I cast a spell and set up a barrier that encompassed the entire office. It was a measure to lessen the impact on the outside in case something dangerous popped out of the box. Since we were in the middle of the city, it would be troublesome if an accident occurred.
Using abilities for personal reasons outside of a dungeon and causing trouble would accumulate demerit points. If these accumulated, one would be restrained by the Special Task Force. It was called a restraint, but they treated you like a complete criminal, freezing your assets and issuing a ban on entering Sejong City, so one had to be careful.
After I finished preparing, I gestured with my chin, and Heesoo hyung placed his hand on the box’s lock. He undid it and flung open the lid, which looked quite heavy, in one go.
“Whoa.”
Kim Mina let out an unconscious exclamation, and I almost did the same.
Inside the box was a single greatsword.
The blade was narrower than the one Heesoo hyung used before, but the handle and guard were longer. It was impossible to tell what kind of metal the reddish sword was made of, and there was no discernible edge to speak of.
The sword, which gave off a very bizarre yet classical impression, was so incredibly large that you would believe it if you were told a giant used it. But when Heesoo hyung fearlessly picked it up, it suited him as if it were a part of his body. It was so long that it seemed to be close to Heesoo hyung’s height, making it look as if he were holding a cross-shaped spear.
As I stood there, speechless and unknowingly overwhelmed by the sight, Heesoo hyung, who had been staring blankly at the sword, muttered as if to himself.
“Seo Heesoo.”
Seeing him say his name, I knew that the imprinting process was underway. Items that could recognize their owner were extremely rare. I didn’t know what Min Gongchan’s intentions were in sending this, but it was definitely an item from the Otherworldly Store.
Soon, a blazing red light shot up from the handle and disappeared. A strange script, which I assumed was Heesoo hyung’s name, remained there. Heesoo hyung, having finished the imprinting, lightly flipped it and held it out towards me, saying.
“It says its name is Kladenets.”
“Does the Awakened System say that?”
He must have held it out for me to examine it myself, but I couldn’t hold the sword properly. As soon as I took it, my wrist buckled under the tremendous weight, and I ended up dropping it. The sword was so heavy that instead of bouncing when it hit the floor, it dropped flat like a magnet sticking to a chalkboard.
“Just how heavy is this thing?”
As I muttered in shock, Heesoo hyung tilted his head as if he found it strange.
“It felt light.”
“This is light? It’s heavy. Hey, Kim Mina. You try lifting this.”
Kim Mina immediately came over and tried to lift the sword. But even as her impressive biceps and triceps bulged, the sword didn’t budge. Then, Heesoo hyung said as if he understood.
“It seems that no one but the imprinted owner can lift it.”
“It’s finicky, similar to Lævateinn.”
My Lævateinn also had an imprinting function, so if someone else touched it, it would heat up and burn them. Figuring it was a similar function, I simply left the sword on the floor and grabbed the handle. Then, the Awakened System recognized the sword and displayed an information window.
「Kladenets (Legendary): This greatsword, forged by an extinct ancient race, is made of Uklar, the crystal of the enduring earth. It is the only surviving weapon of the Kladenets series, and its durability grows stronger the more lives it takes. Having already taken over 10 billion lives, it can cleave the scales of a dragon, and will ultimately be able to cut through time and space itself. This greatsword recognizes its master and offers extreme loyalty, and at times, it may display miraculous performance.」
Even the Awakened System’s crude description sounded cool, so it must have been an eye-poppingly expensive item.
When I gave it back to Heesoo hyung, his face lit up with vitality.
It was clear he wanted to swing it right away, but the office was too small a space for that. Heesoo hyung, who stood suppressing his impulse, belatedly discovered a note inside the box.
[You’ll need a weapon, so use this.]
The message was extremely short, and there was no sender. But it certainly seemed to be written by Min Gongchan.
Heesoo hyung’s expression became a little complicated, and I felt complicated along with him. I desperately wanted to define that guy as an enemy for ordering a hit on Heesoo hyung and leading us into a trap.
But it was difficult to do so when, not content with throwing his body to protect me from Yaksha last time, he had now even sent Heesoo hyung a weapon. The emotions Min Gongchan evoked were too complex to simplify him as friend or foe.
So that hyung wouldn’t suffer from useless worries, I said in a light tone.
“Looks like that guy Min Gongchan knew we’d be looking for a weapon. Maybe he’s telling us to take this and get lost?”
Heesoo hyung was caressing Kladenets as if stroking it when he suddenly asked Kim Mina.
“Do you know where Min Gongchan and Yoon Younghyun went?”
Kim Mina scratched the back of her head and said.
