|Ha Seonwoo| If you don’t have club activities, how about meeting briefly around 4?

|Ha Seonwoo| I have something to give you too

Looking at the DM, I felt puzzled.

Ha Seonwoo always maintains a mindset prepared for hacking, so he never leaves traces of meetings.

The only time he records appointment times like this is when fabricating alibis.

If he left 4 o’clock in a DM, it means he’s certain I absolutely won’t be able to come out at that time…

‘But there’s nothing at 4 o’clock?’

Today’s a day without club activities, so that time slot is completely empty. At 4 it’s after school, so there shouldn’t be classes either.

I accessed the academy system to check if any events were scheduled at 4 or if there were special announcements, but there was nothing like that.

‘That can’t be right?’

Ha Seonwoo would never do something like this.

There can’t be any errors in my character interpretation, so there must be a reason somewhere. A reason why I won’t be able to keep the 4 o’clock appointment.

I found that reason much later, while rummaging through DMs.

|Mad Scientist Unnie| Cadet Yeon Sora, follow-up examination is required for the previous test. Please visit tomorrow, after school without fail

|Mad Scientist Unnie| If you have club activities, I’ll write you a medical note, so please skip today.

A message received yesterday.

I’d moved it straight to the trash the moment I got it.

The reason I went to the medical wing was faking illness in the first place, so there’s no need for follow-up tests. And this unnie is someone overflowing with desire to turn me into a lab rat, so I ignored it because I didn’t want to get entangled.

But if my character interpretation is correct… this is likely connected to Ha Seonwoo.

|Yeon Sora| Vice Guild Master, I’m sorry. I have to go to the medical wing at that time…

|Ha Seonwoo| That’s too bad. Then I’ll leave the item I need to give you in the dorm’s unmanned parcel locker 😉

‘So I have 2 hours of prep time?’

As expected, skipping this afternoon was the right choice.

Since I still have time, I decided to review my plan once more before the meeting.

If I know Ha Seonwoo, he’ll have done background checks on all awakening test team members including Park Rahee.

The problem is, my baby isn’t someone who goes ‘Give me information!’ and hands it over for free when you say ‘Here you go!’

I’ll need my own strategy to extract that information.

* * *

4 o’clock sharp.

When I arrived at the medical wing, the unnie in a white coat was vigorously waving her hand to greet me.

“Cadet Yeon Sora! Over here!”

Several medical wing staff glanced this way.

Her movements were so large and noisy, and she was shouting loudly as if wanting to be heard.

“Sorry for calling you out suddenly. There was something in the test results that concerned me a bit~ It won’t take long! Then let’s go, to my lab!”

When we went to the underground lab I’d visited last week, the person I’d been expecting was there as expected.

“Vice Guild Master!”

As expected, my character interpretation never fails—I was soaking in satisfaction when Mad Scientist Unnie looked at Ha Seonwoo and winked one eye.

“Ha Seonwoo, you owe me one?”

“Didn’t we already settle accounts?”

“You have so much money yet you keep being so stingy, President?”

“President from when?”

These two aren’t ordinary acquaintances.

Mad Scientist Unnie is an extra who doesn’t even have a name in the original…

“Do you two know each other?”

“Soulmates. Right, President Ha Seonwoo?”

“President?”

“During my academy days, I was student council president. This one was vice president.”

What’s this plot bait from a clear sky?

Ha Seonwoo was student council president during his school days???

“That’s unusual? Neither of you are combat-types…”

Student council presidents are usually combat-types, but Ha Seonwoo is an information-type ability user. Mad Scientist Unnie also went into research, so she’s not combat-type either.

“Haha, we were both combat-types until second year. We were forced to change careers due to injuries. Fortunately our second pillars bloomed, so we didn’t have to transfer schools.”

“Vice Guild Master was combat-type? What ability did you have?”

This is information I don’t know.

<On the Brink of Destruction> never mentioned Ha Seonwoo’s school days when he was just a supporting character.

The researcher unnie sensed my interest and approached with a sinister smile.

“Cadet Yeon Sora, do you know a bit about pre-Great Cataclysm movies?”

“That’s enough, Cheon Ari.”

“Back in our day, it was trendy to find and watch old movies. Among them was a movie with an arrow-shooting elf, and Ha Seonwoo fell head over heels for it…”

“I said that’s enough.”

“Why? You loved playing Legolas back then! Why’d you cut your hair? Long hair suited you so well.”

“Legolas?”

“Ah, Cadet Yeon Sora might not know. I’ll show you the photos later if I find them.”

“Hey, Cheon Ari!”

“So sponsor one more project! Unless you want all your dark history exposed.”

These two are real close friends.

Ha Seonwoo, who always wears a gentlemanly smile, is showing his raw, unfiltered expressions.

Getting to view rare expressions—today’s starting off well!

Plus the existence of photos of long-haired, arrow-shooting Ha Seonwoo!!! My collecting desire is gushing forth.

I should get close with Mad Scientist Unnie, shouldn’t I?

【Opening New Plot Bait + Character Analysis Update.txt】

While I was diligently opening the relevant document to organize today’s harvest of fresh plot bait, a transaction was taking place between Ha Seonwoo and Scientist Unnie.

“Fine, just look at the proposal if sponsor is too much.”

“How many pages?”

“145.”

“…Haa, if you condense it to a 2-page summary, I’ll look at that.”

“Deal! Then I’ll earn my pay now, President!”

After shaking hands with Ha Seonwoo, Mad Scientist Unnie suddenly walked toward the coffee machine and shouted loudly.

“Oh my?! We’re out of coffee? I can’t function at all without coffee~”

Winking once more, the unnie opened the lab door wide and continued her exaggerated acting.

“Cadet Yeon Sora, could you wait here a moment? The tests will continue smoothly anyway. Call me if anything happens! I’m the type of person who doesn’t function at all without coffee~”

Anyone can see it’s alibi fabrication. There’s CCTV in the hallway, and even audio is being recorded.

Unnie winked and exited, and when the door closed, Ha Seonwoo showed me a very tired expression while giving me a gentlemanly smile.

“It was noisy, wasn’t it? Shall we talk quietly just between us?”

* * *

Ha Seonwoo removed the navy long coat he’d been wearing and folded it in half before hanging it on a chair. Thanks to that, the insane suit fit hidden under the thick wool coat revealed its presence.

This height turning the lab into a runway in an instant—what am I going to do!

And one more spoonful of reverse charm was added.

He was wearing a white vest suit, but the shirt underneath was thin, so his lean muscles showed through in silhouette.

Going one step further, today’s Ha Seonwoo-ssi has his falling bangs neatly combed back into slicked hair. If Cover-Ha is a gentle noble, Slick-Ha has the aura of a fastidious, arrogant noble.

I like this Ha Seonwoo too! Today I really hit the jackpot!

“Sora, why don’t you sit down?”

“Y-yes!”

“We don’t have much time, so can I get straight to the point?”

Right, this isn’t the time for me to be like this.

I’m not here for a fan meeting right now—I’m here for destruction prevention.

I need to find out about the mastermind behind Park Rahee.

I made a firm resolution once more and looked at Ha Seonwoo with a determined expression.

“I saw the grasshopper again in the movie theater incident.”

“I thought so.”

Ha Seonwoo’s face wasn’t particularly surprised.

“I went to check the scene too, and the damage was quite severe. Sora, I think you should stay out of this kind of thing from now on and focus on your studies. Especially… you should keep your distance from the student named Park Rahee.”

Huh, what? Why does he already know?

I was briefly flustered, but my brain assembled the answers hidden in Ha Seonwoo’s comment at a surprisingly fast speed and produced the result.

Ha Seonwoo has a psychometry ability.

If he investigated the movie theater seats one by one, he would’ve noticed that Park Rahee summoned the grasshopper at the scene.

‘It’s you again, butterfly effect!’

Park Rahee was supposed to summon the grasshopper outside the theater, but because of me she summoned it at the incident scene.

Because of that, Ha Seonwoo discovered Park Rahee’s identity, and Ha Seonwoo thinks I’ve outlived my usefulness and is preparing to cut me loose.

“You already know this, but Park Rahee has a high possibility of being connected to dangerous people. You’ve been helpful enough until now, Sora—you should forget about this and live your life. It’s too dangerous for a mere student to get involved.”

I was a bit flustered, but this situation isn’t something I didn’t anticipate. Because I see through my bias.

Ha Seonwoo has many informants planted here and there, and those informants are largely divided into 2 types.

Regular witnesses and undercover agents.

And naturally, Ha Seonwoo doesn’t give detailed information to witnesses.

Even in the other world, you don’t spread information to a mere witness like ‘The criminal you witnessed is actually part of a huge organization, and this organization is like this, and what we know about this organization member is such and such…’

To get that high-grade information, you need to be promoted from witness to undercover agent. I’ve prepared several cards for that.

First is card number one.

“Park Rahee has an accomplice.”

The pickup guy we met before entering the movie theater.

This person is also a subordinate, so it’s good to know their identity.

Ha Seonwoo’s eyes narrowed as if he hadn’t expected this.

“An accomplice… Can you tell me more?”

“Before we went to the movie theater, there was a man who had a conversation with Park Rahee, and the two of them exchanged dialogue with the nuance of ‘something will happen at the movie theater soon. We can match the timing.'”

Judging by the cold slime vigorously groping my nape, Ha Seonwoo is using his lie detection skill.

And the result will be true.

“Do you remember that man’s face?”

“I do remember it, but it’s hazy. It would be better to see him again…”

“Could you close your eyes and try to recall that moment?”

As expected, Ha Seonwoo cast a hypnosis skill on me, and what I’d experienced then replayed vividly like a movie before my eyes.

‘Right, this is what I needed.’

I wanted to properly confirm the man’s face again too.

Checking with hypnosis, the man’s height is about a hand and a half taller than Park Rahee, and he has a mole under his left eyebrow. Dark gray hair. Blue eyes.

“Do you remember the face well?”

“Yes.”

“Then try opening your eyes.”

When I opened my eyes, Ha Seonwoo this time had a hologram screen floating large in the air.

“Could you check if that man is among these?”

As expected, a lineup investigation followed.

Inside the hologram were several ID photos from graduation albums. Probably Park Rahee’s middle school classmates.

I quickly flipped through the provided photos trying to find the accomplice, but he wasn’t among the middle school classmates.

“Don’t you have photos where they’re not so stiff, but smiling? The man I saw had distinctive expressions, so seeing those would be more helpful…”

When I made the request, several group photos appeared on screen.

Photos taken with the school as background, so if I observe carefully, I can find out various information.

I examined the photos while recording key content in a separate notepad.

【Opening Park Rahee Background Investigation.txt】

– From Hwadong Middle School in Eunpyeong District.

– Seems to be from the band club(?).

Until I get promoted to undercover agent, I need to squeeze out information like this.

It’s a bit cumbersome, but I fell for Ha Seonwoo as my bias because of this meticulousness, so I can’t complain.

“He’s not here.”

“Then let’s move on.”

After school came photos with a hospital background.

There was a young boy wrapped in bandages all over his body, smiling brightly. Seems the younger sibling being hospitalized was true after all.

– Admitted to Gwanak District Citizens Hospital. Sibling’s name Park Rayeon

After recording key facts, I moved to the next photo.

Seems Park Rahee being from an orphanage is also fact.

– From ‘House of Salvation’ in Eunpyeong District

I examined the faces in group photos here too, but there was no one resembling the pickup guy.

Well, I expected this from the start.

The man and Park Rahee seemed to recognize each other based on a ‘mark.’ If so, there’s a high possibility they have no prior acquaintance.

Instead, what I’m looking for is traces of that ‘mark.’

“Wait! This photo… could you zoom in a bit?”

“This one?”

Ha Seonwoo tilted his head looking at the photo I’d specified.

A photo of children at the facility smiling brightly while painting a mural.

Only Park Rahee is middle school age while the rest are elementary students, so he seems puzzled why I want to zoom in on this photo.

But what’s important in this photo isn’t the people.

The large Greek temple-style building drawn in the mural. Behind that temple are several small pyramids, and at the very top of the pyramid furthest back, a flag with a unique design is flying.

A flag with a design of a crescent moon containing stars.

It resembles the Turkish flag from the other world, but what’s unique is that there are three stars instead of one.

“Vice Guild Master, do you know about this mural’s background?”

“Looks like inside the Tower… It’s a painting of the 82nd floor temple.”

This makes it certain.

I’ve caught the key evidence.

I looked at Ha Seonwoo while pointing at the flag with the crescent moon and stars.

“The necklace Park Rahee wears has this design on it. And the accomplice was wearing a sports band with this design embroidered on it too.”

The drawing on the necklace that summoned the grasshopper is also drawn on the orphanage wall.

The mastermind is 58,000% likely to be someone connected to Park Rahee’s orphanage.

That’s not all.

“The 82nd floor is where Tower climbing stopped, right?”

In <On the Brink of Destruction>, the Tower is a symbol of peace.

Based on the legend that eternal peace will come when humanity climbs to the 100th floor, humanity is climbing the Tower.

But starting three years ago, all raid parties worldwide stopped at the 82nd floor. Since then, irregular rifts have been bursting in countries around the world and monsters are increasing.

Yet there’s a strange mark in front of the 82nd floor temple.

The mastermind’s subordinates carry that mark on their bodies.

This is plot bait that didn’t appear in the original.

  1. Is there any particular interpretation of the 58.000% in Korean?
It’s the second or third time MC deliberately uses this one value.

    1. I don’t really knowledgeable either but, I’m 58% (joking, 99%) sure that it’s just one of Sora’s antique.
