<Episode 80>
The moment our eyes met, I decided to tell him everything.
‘I don’t want to hide anything from Hunter Lee Hyunwoo.’
From the day my parents’ store was stolen away, to meeting Hanyang, my sudden awakening, and even the system that assigned quests… I explained everything slowly and without leaving anything out.
Even in a world where hunters had become commonplace, stories about “Underworld.com” and “points” were hard to believe so easily. The anxiety that he might think I was crazy clung to the corner of my heart throughout the entire explanation.
But he never interrupted me even once until my long story was finished. He simply looked quietly into my eyes and nodded.
After a brief silence, he spoke in a low voice.
“So that’s what happened.”
His voice was as calm as ever.
“Now I finally understand why Hunter Haneul is different from the other hunters. Food with absurd effects despite being F-rank, items I had never seen before…. Everything makes sense now.”
He lowered his gaze slightly.
“More than anything, the existence of this talking cat is extraordinary enough already.”
“…Our Hanyang is a little unique, right?”
I bent down and lightly tapped the bridge of Hanyang’s nose with my index finger.
“There is nothing unique about this body at all, nya.”
When Hanyang swung his fluffy paw with a sulky face, Hunter Lee Hyunwoo finally burst into laughter. The stiff atmosphere softened instantly along with his laugh.
“Thank you for telling me honestly. I’m glad you trusted me.”
“No, well… it wasn’t some huge secret or anything.”
As I scratched my cheek shyly, he smiled.
“Then how do you plan to obtain these ‘points’ from now on?”
“Hmm. That’s the problem.”
Dragged back to reality again, I rested my chin on my hand and let out a deep sigh.
“I can earn points through the request board. But the requests themselves are completely random.”
Ridiculous missions like finding someone’s lost cat, or secretly delivering documents someone forgot behind. It was a structure where hunters’ small yet desperate wishes appeared at random.
“It was useful, but if I keep managing points this way, I’ll end up spending all day running around completing requests instead of doing business. The priorities get reversed.”
‘Of course, there is another method.’
Taking out loans from “Underworld Capital.” But I didn’t want to start a delivery business by going into debt.
“Ugh….”
As I sat there groaning with my head in my hands, Hunter Lee Hyunwoo, who had been quietly listening, spoke up.
“Would it perhaps be possible to adjust this request board somehow? The system seems unusually favorable toward Hunter Haneul.”
“…Huh?”
I widened my eyes at his words. Modify the board itself? Was that even possible?
Thinking I had nothing to lose, I hurriedly summoned the system window into the air. I entered the familiar request board tab, but no matter how hard I looked, there was no button labeled “Settings” or “Options.”
‘If there’s no button, do I have to say it out loud?’
I clenched my fist and boldly shouted at the air.
“Open request board manipulation function!”
…Silence.
My cheeks heated slightly in embarrassment. Hunter Lee Hyunwoo watched me with his chin resting on his hand as though he found it interesting.
Ah, whatever. One more time!
“Request board, change to store mode!”
“…….”
Nothing happened again. The system window merely displayed the words [Request List] indifferently. Ah, so this wasn’t it. This was so embarrassing.
“Ugh, I guess it really won’t work. It’d be nice if I could customize the request board as you said….”
The moment I grumbled that to myself…
Ding!
Would you like to customize the ‘Request Board’?
“…Huh?”
Startled, I blinked repeatedly. It seemed the keyword had been “customize.” A blank input field appeared on the screen.
—
Would you like to customize the ‘Request Board’?
Purpose: ____________________
[Apply]
—
I raised my trembling finger and typed into the floating keyboard.
“For Haneul’s… Third Branch… Food Truck operation… store-use requests.”
The moment I finished typing and pressed [Apply], the system window crackled briefly. The letters disassembled and began rearranging themselves. Then completely new listings unfolded before my eyes.
—
[Request List (Store Use)]
-Request: My feet are freezing off. Ordering hot fish cake soup! (Reward: 500P)
-Request: We entered a gate, and my teammates got into a fightㅠㅠ We need the power of tteokbokki~ (Reward: 300P)
-Request: Group order for the team! Please recharge our morale. (Reward: 750P)
—
“…This is insane.”
I muttered while staring at the changed request list. Hunter Lee Hyunwoo looked at me and asked,
“Did you succeed?”
“Yes! A huge success! The request board completely turned into a delivery rider board!”
Of course, the delivery locations listed on the request board were far from ordinary. Frozen Valley Gate, Vanishing Secret Forest Gate…. Places where ordinary people would scream and run away.
‘But what if the employee is a grim reaper?’
I immediately contacted Mr. Kim Chasa. The moment I mentioned points, he rushed over at lightning speed. After listening to my requirements, he nodded obediently.
“As long as there are points involved, I do not mind.”
Thank goodness this grim reaper was obsessed with worldly desires… namely, points. But no matter how much stamina he had or how fearless he was about gates, it would be useless without service spirit.
‘Maybe because he’s a grim reaper? Even the Talent Detection skill doesn’t work on him.’
For now, it seemed best for me to stay beside him personally and judge whether to hire him long-term. I extended my right hand toward Mr. Kim Chasa.
“Then I look forward to working with you, Intern Kim Chasa!”
“Hah, an intern?”
I grinned at the bewildered expression on his face. Let’s work hard so you can become a full-time employee!
***
…Huff, huff.
The scorching sandstorm burrowed deep into my lungs.
“Team leader… d-do we have any water left?”
“We need to ration it now. Hold on a little longer.”
C-rank hunter Seo Liyoung licked her dry lips and shook her head firmly. This was the D-rank gate, “Desert of the Scorching Sun.” The rank itself wasn’t high, but clearing it was taking frustratingly long because of monsters hiding beneath the sand.
“Haah…. How many days has it been already? I’m dying here!”
“Stop complaining and conserve your stamina.”
The exhausted expressions on the team members’ faces were obvious as they trudged endlessly through the desert beneath air so dry it held not a trace of moisture.
‘Damn it. At this rate, we’ll die of thirst before the monsters even kill us.’
Seo I-young swallowed her curses as she shoved aside a pile of sand with her sword. But giving up midway and leaving wasn’t an option either. The moment they re-entered, they would have to start all over from the beginning. They had come this far already!
‘This is a desert too, so isn’t there at least some kind of oasis?’
She desperately prayed inwardly for even a single gulp of cold water. It was then.
A hazy cloud of dust began rising beyond the horizon.
BROOOOM!
As the roaring sound shaking the ground grew closer, everyone tensed and raised their weapons.
But what emerged through the dust cloud was something utterly unexpected.
Screeeech!
“…A truck?”
And not just any truck… it was a small silver truck gleaming under the blazing sunlight. Mounted on top of it was a huge sign.
[Haneul’s Food Truck]
“Haneul’s? Don’t tell me it’s that bungeoppang shop?”
The side of the truck opened wide like wings, and white, cold air poured out as though mocking the desert heat. But what made them hesitate wasn’t just the refreshing chill.
Inside the truck stood a bizarre man dressed in black robes with a gat atop his head. Skin so pale it was nearly bluish, deeply sunken eyes, and an eerie voice.
From behind him, a petite woman approached and whispered.
“Mr. Kim Chasa! You have to greet the customers first.”
“…Welcome.”
The woman was Jung Haneul, owner of the shop “Haneul’s.” Since she was here, it really must be the same bungeoppang shop she knew….
‘Don’t tell me that corpse-like blue guy is the new employee?’
Seo Liyoung frowned at the bizarre combination. But before long, the employee stopped mattering altogether.
“…The new menu item is soda-flavored slushie?”
That name, slushie, was sweeter than an oasis itself. And it was soda flavored too!
As if enchanted by something, Seo I-young approached the truck.
“Could I… order enough slushies for everyone here?”
“Order received.”
Before she could even blink, cups overflowing with slushies were thrust before her nose.
‘W-What? That fast?’
Carefully, she accepted one of the cups. The cold sensation touching her palms sent chills through her body. After handing slushies to her teammates first, I-young sipped through the straw.
“…Huaa.”
The moment the finely crushed ice slid down her throat, an intense cold sharp enough to make her head ache traveled through her esophagus all the way to her stomach. It felt as though the scorching sandstorm buried deep in her lungs was purified instantly.
“Uwaaaaah…! This is insane!”
“I-I’m alive! I’m really alive!”
Exclamations burst out from everywhere. As the team members shook their cups desperately and inhaled the slushies, Hunter Jung Haneul approached them.
“Hello! Do you have a moment?”
Greeting them brightly, she suddenly held out a tablet.
And on the screen was…
