Lee Yuseong was utterly speechless.

“…Just take a taxi.”

The words he barely managed to utter were swallowed up by the helmet that was pulled down over his head.

On top of that, the exhaust sound of the bike was immense. It wasn’t just any bike, nor a delivery bike, but a flashy, grand, large-sized bike that looked like something club members would ride along the riverside.

The rumbling vibration he felt beneath his body was no joke. Bikes are more dangerous than cars. People lose their lives in accidents even in large SUVs or buses. A bike was practically a suicidal act.

That was how it seemed to Lee Yuseong, who had grown up as an outsider and held the strange prejudice that only the popular kids or hip people rode bikes.

“What did you just say?”

By the time Choi Jigu asked again, the bike had already started moving. Naturally, with an acceleration faster than a bicycle, Lee Yuseong found himself grabbing Choi Jigu’s waist with both hands.

“What, are you scared?”

“Do I look like I wouldn’t be?”

He had shouted fiercely, in his own way, but to Choi Jigu, it only felt like a puffed-up pufferfish raising its spines a little. Bursting into laughter, he said to Lee Yuseong.

“Hold on tight.”

“D-don’t say things like a warning before you speed up. Got it? Go at the speed you’re going now.”

The guy who seemed like he’d be slow-witted was quick on the uptake only at times like this. Choi Jigu pretended not to hear Lee Yuseong.

As they entered an eight-lane road, the bike increased its speed. It was only about as fast as other cars were going, but to Lee Yuseong, who was riding a bike for the first time in his life, it felt fast enough to make him faint.

On the right, a black SUV whizzed past the side of the bike.

‘Gasp.’

Terrified, Lee Yuseong instinctively pressed himself tightly against his back and hugged Choi Jigu’s waist firmly. There was nowhere else to lean on.

“I said don’t speed up!”

“If we go slower than this, we’ll get into an accident!”

Even Lee Yuseong, who had zero interest in bikes, knew that the price tag of the vehicle he was currently riding on was well over the millions.

Maybe because of that, people on the street kept glancing at them. Why couldn’t they all just go inside and sleep, what were they loitering around the bustling streets for in the middle of the night? A group of drunk young college students let out cheers of “Oooh” as the two passed by, and there was even a couple staring openly and pointing with their fingers.

Choi Jigu even raised his thumb up to them in a cool gesture. At his gesture, people burst into laughter and applauded. Thanks to that, even other passersby nearby began to take notice of the two.

‘What is he doing, this lunatic?’

He really was a crazy guy. Popular people really are different.

For a moment, an impulse to push Choi Jigu off the bike surged within Lee Yuseong.

‘I want to disappear.’

He felt like he was going insane. He was scared, embarrassed, and bewildered.

The pain of his injured foot had long been forgotten.

‘I said I want to disappear!’

Vroooom. As if knowing or not knowing Lee Yuseong’s feelings, the bike let out a grand exhaust note onto the streets. Cutting splendidly through the night, Lee Yuseong just wanted to cry.

This was not what Lee Yuseong had wanted.

Until they arrived at the hospital, Lee Yuseong cried internally the whole time.

By the time he got off the bike, he was completely drained of energy, perhaps from crying so much internally. Choi Jigu supported him as he staggered like a living corpse without even being asked.

“You seem even more out of it than before?”

These damned extroverted bastards were quick on the uptake too. How were they so good at reading other people’s emotions and feelings and easily grasping changes?

Avoiding Choi Jigu’s gaze as he peered past his glasses, Lee Yuseong answered that it was because he was sleepy. He didn’t even have the energy left to mention the bike, or the people, or this and that.

Of course, it was also Choi Jigu who did most of the communicating with the doctor in the emergency room. To be precise, frustrated by Lee Yuseong’s explanations which were concise to the point of being excessively sparse, he volunteered himself as spokesperson.

Watching Choi Jigu explain methodically and specifically, the doctor asked.

“Ah, are you his guardian? Then I’ll show you how to apply the cold compress…”

Excuse me, doctor. What do we call it when an alpha of similar age becomes an omega’s guardian?

We’ve agreed to call that at minimum a lover, or a bonded partner.

“No.”

At Lee Yuseong’s quick interjection, the doctor made a puzzled face.

Lee Yuseong absolutely, never, wanted to be seen as having that kind of relationship with Choi Jigu. Being near this guy kept drawing the attention of people around them. He was clearly a guy who attracted people to him like a Venus flytrap.

Choi Jigu, who burst out laughing as if exploding with it, explained like a spokesperson.

“He’s not a guardian, he’s a friend. If you could explain it to this friend here, I’ll listen along and take care of him.”

‘Friend?’

Lee Yuseong’s eyebrows shot up crookedly. He would never dream that his inner thoughts were reflected so plainly on his face that Choi Jigu had to struggle to suppress his laughter.

The doctor disinfected the wound while explaining a few precautions. He added a chilling remark that if it had been just a little worse, they would have had to perform surgery to peel off the skin.

After the doctor left, Choi Jigu extended his hand.

“Let’s go, friend.”

Lee Yuseong smacked Choi Jigu’s palm.

At that, Choi Jigu grabbed Lee Yuseong’s hand firmly, pulled him up with strength, and helped him to his feet.

‘This isn’t what I meant.’

It had been a gesture of refusal. When he came to his senses, he found himself once again swept up in Choi Jigu’s pace, rising from his seat.

Choi Jigu slowly guided the sulking Lee Yuseong, who was twitching his lips, and draped his arm over his own shoulder. Smirking, he asked quietly.

“Or would you rather I carry you on my back?”

“…You’re being annoying.”

“Ahaha.”

Choi Jigu laughed again. Why did he laugh every time he said something? Lee Yuseong had no intention whatsoever of making this guy laugh, yet Choi Jigu kept laughing on his own.

Seeing the refreshing curve of his smiling lips, and the eyes that sparkled calmly even late at night, left him dumbfounded. Lee Yuseong ended up letting out a small laugh himself without realizing it.

“Why are you laughing?”

Choi Jigu’s question was funny.

“You laughed first.”

Eventually, as a soft laugh resonated even from his throat, Choi Jigu leaned his head in confidently.

“I guess my face makes you laugh?”

“Don’t be ridiculous, really.”

He lightly pushed his face away with his empty hand. Choi Jigu, who had pretended to resist, backed off obediently and spoke.

“It’s a relief it doesn’t seem to be a major injury.”

His voice was thickly laced with relief. He still had a smiling face, but his eyebrows seemed to have drooped a little more.

Unbeknownst to Choi Jigu, Lee Yuseong traced the shape of his drooping eyebrows in the air with just his fingertips.

‘What a weird guy.’

It wasn’t something for him to be startled over, or for him to be relieved over, so why was he going to such lengths?

‘Are all extroverts like this?’

He truly couldn’t understand it.

The next morning, when Lee Yuseong opened his eyes, he had no confidence he could get up.

“I want to rest in eternal peace….”

He needed to get up now to make it to his first period lecture, but his body, with its HP completely drained, was practically on strike. His limbs screamed that nothing was restored by sleeping for three hours.

“No, my MP is the bigger problem….”

His physical body was one thing, but his mental fortitude was even more miserable. He had clearly used up an entire week’s worth of social energy yesterday. In his heart, he wanted to not go anywhere and just hole up in his room, lying still like this.

On top of that, even the top of his foot throbbed, so he literally felt like dying.

“Life is cruel… far too cruel…”

Was college life supposed to be like this?

Were the responsibilities of an adult like this?

Truly, there was not a single word of the ancestors’ sayings that was wrong. They had always said an omega must always behave properly and be wary of alphas.
