This meant that Chitran was the most suitable nation to supplement Ackeleta’s insufficient military forces.

Moreover, Cedric believed that Ackeleta would use Chitran’s past failure to seize continental hegemony from the Deamant Empire to appeal to their desire for revenge.

[…Let me be direct.]

The King of Chitran replied in a low voice.

[I’ve heard that the Empire is holding the Princess of Ackeleta captive and refusing to confirm her status.]

“Oh dear, you didn’t take that at face value, did you?”

[Well, Ackeleta presented evidence that the princess’s magical signature can no longer be detected.]

The King of Chitran spoke in a stiff tone.

[The Ackeleta royal family uses a magic that allows them to sense each other’s magical energy even from great distances. Currently, even that magic cannot confirm the princess’s status.]

At that, Cedric raised an eyebrow.

‘There’s no such magic.’

Already lying, huh? It was clear that the King of Ackeleta was pulling out all the stops to lure the King of Chitran into his scheme.

While Cedric found this distasteful, he also thought it indicated how desperate Ackeleta must be to resort to such lies.

“Yet you reached out to me, which means you don’t fully believe their evidence, right?”

[As expected, you’re quick to catch on.]

“You must have been troubled by the fact that the evidence Ackeleta presented could easily have been fabricated.”

And the Kingdom of Chitran would know better than anyone.

That the Deamant Empire had no motive to imprison or harm the Princess of Ackeleta.

“Still, you’d like to confirm objective evidence that the princess is safe, wouldn’t you? Along with proof that Ackeleta is lying.”

[If the Empire could provide such evidence first, it would be more than welcome from Chitran’s perspective.]

The King of Chitran chuckled.

[Even without evidence, I’d be inclined to believe you. But I still wanted to confirm.]

“I understand.”

There’s nothing more foolish than blindly trusting one side and acting rashly.

Chitran had previously clashed with the Empire and suffered significant losses.

Since then, Chitran had avoided involving itself in conflicts, not only with Deamant but with other nations as well.

The king of such a nation would naturally act with even greater caution.

[To be honest, there’s something more important than the evidence regarding the princess.]

The King of Chitran’s heavy voice echoed.

[Ackeleta brought up the matter of the Sword of Victory. They claimed you possess the sword.]

“Is that so? For something like that, my magical energy is far too weak. If such a thing existed, the entire continent would be in an uproar.”

Cedric tried to laugh it off, pretending it was nothing, and was about to ask if they still believed in such old tales.

But the King of Chitran spoke first.

[Whether the sword exists or not is not the issue. The problem is that the King of Ackeleta is willing to do anything to obtain it.]

At the sincerity in his voice, Cedric fell silent.

[Please be careful.]

The words that followed from the King of Chitran were quite unexpected.

‘Does he really not believe the rumors about the Sword of Victory?’

Cedric had assumed that even the King of Chitran would be interested in the Sword of Victory.

After all, Chitran had also received oracles in the past and was aware of Caliberne’s existence, knowing that oracles were not mere superstitions.

However, it was likely that Chitran currently treated Caliberne as little more than a legend.

Still, if Ackeleta, which still received oracles, was reaching out to Chitran, it was clear that Chitran would assume Ackeleta’s claims about the sword weren’t entirely false.

Yet, instead of showing interest in the sword, the King of Chitran was warning him.

[Although the King of Ackeleta requested help to find his sister, the more we talked, the more it became clear that his real interest lies in the sword.]

No matter how skillfully crafted the lies were, it was difficult to deceive the discerning eyes of the King of Chitran, who had ruled for over 30 years.

He had accurately grasped Jayden’s true intentions.

[Whether the sword is real or not, the fact that he’s gone as far as reaching out to Chitran shows how obsessed he is with it. He’ll undoubtedly resort to any means necessary.]

Only then did Cedric realize.

The reason the King of Chitran had urgently contacted him.

[Even if Ackeleta’s military is small, they must have something they believe in to act this way. Please don’t forget my warning and ensure your safety and that of the Empire.]

“…So you requested this conversation just to say this.”

Cedric paused for a moment before cautiously speaking.

“You really have no interest in the sword, do you?”

Though Cedric hadn’t been on the throne for long, he was quite skilled at reading people’s intentions.

From his perspective, the King of Chitran genuinely didn’t seem to care much about the sword itself.

[As you said, if such a sword had truly appeared, the entire continent would be in chaos. Since that hasn’t happened, it’s safe to assume the sword hasn’t appeared yet.]

“What do you mean by ‘it’s safe to assume’?”

[Because there’s another possibility. The sword might have appeared, but its wielder is using its power wisely and not recklessly, so no one has noticed its existence.]

The King of Chitran chuckled as he continued.

[And in the latter case, forcibly taking the sword against the wielder’s will doesn’t seem like a good choice. Chitran no longer wishes to endure war.]

“That makes sense.”

[You must be wondering why I’m not only relaying my conversation with Ackeleta, but also giving you this warning.]

For some reason, Cedric felt the King of Chitran’s voice soften at that moment.

[When my son was kidnapped by the northern rebels, your father lent us his strength.]

Cedric let out an involuntary sigh.

He had heard about the incident, but this was the first time the King of Chitran had brought it up directly since Cedric ascended the throne.

[I have not forgotten that kindness.]

“…”

[Please be careful.]

At the stern yet warm voice, Cedric responded sincerely.

“Thank you, truly.”

💫

“So the issue with Chitran was resolved more easily than expected.”

It was truly a relief.

With Ackeleta’s dark magic already difficult to predict, adding Chitran’s forces to the mix during a battle could have been disastrous.

In such a situation, Chitran’s promise to cooperate with us was more than welcome.

“Still, it’s hard to feel at ease. We need to solve the issue of the sword’s magic…”

Persephine spoke with a somber expression.

“From what I’ve heard from the Magic Research Division, the methods of using dark magic have advanced tremendously while I was away from Ackeleta. Far beyond what I could have imagined.”

As Persephine said, if a battle with Ackeleta were to break out, the biggest concern wouldn’t be the number of soldiers but the dark magic.

“Your Majesty, the Magic Research Division is also researching ways to counter the use of dark magic, right?”

Lost in thought, I brought my finger to my lips and asked Cedric.

“Yes, there haven’t been any noticeable results yet, but everyone’s working hard.”

Then, with a glance at Persephine, he added,

“Based on the information, the princess provided about dark magic.”

“This is the only way to stop my brother.”

Persephine said with a faint smile.

As I smiled back at her, a memory from the temple flashed through my mind.

‘Come to think of it, back then, my magic was so abundant that the temple’s defensive magic couldn’t stop me…’

Then, a brilliant idea came to me.

“Your Majesty, and Princess.”

I spoke as both of them turned to look at me.

“Couldn’t we use this method to block the activation of dark magic?”

“What? What method?”

Cedric asked with a surprised expression.

“Princess, you mentioned that only the current King of Ackeleta can freely use dark magic, right?”

“Yes, that’s correct.”

“And the others can only activate it through specific mediums infused with his magic, right?”

Persephine nodded again at the second question.

“Then, if we use more magic than the amount of dark magic in the medium, couldn’t we block its activation?”

“Theoretically, yes. But dark magic is explosively stronger than regular magic, so where would we get that much magic…?”

Unlike Persephine, who trailed off, Cedric had a look of realization on his face.

“There is a way.”

I pointed to myself and said, “We could use my magic.”
