Honey, Why Can’t We Get a Divorce? Chapter 163 - Side story 16

Author: rolypoly

“She is having an affair… with His Highness Prince Largo.”

“….”

I unconsciously picked at my ear.

“I guess my hearing has gotten worse since I got pregnant. I just heard some nonsense about Largo and the Grand Duchess having an affair. Ouch.”

“Madam, you heard me correctly.”

“…Really?”

“Yes.”

I covered my mouth. Otherwise, I thought I would say something harsh.

“No…Really? It’s not just a rumor?”

“That’s what I heard. Apparently, that’s why she suddenly started siding with Prince Largo, and her relationship with His Excellency Grand Duke has grown distant.”

“But Largo died?!”

“That’s why she resents the Grand Duke, who caused Prince Largo’s death.”

I grabbed my forehead.

The Grand Duchess and Largo.

If someone asked me who the most mismatched couple in the world was, I’d say it was them. I mean, how is that even possible?!

‘Let’s calm down.’

If I panic and flounder in a moment of surprise, I’m an amateur.

Only a pro stays calm, assesses the situation, and gets to the bottom of things… Wait, but seriously, the Grand Duchess and Largo?!

‘No. Calm down again. Take a deep breath.’

I took a deep breath and tried to think hard.

First of all, Largo isn’t the type to love someone to the extent of enduring personal losses.

Callian was a natural lover, so he loved Fleur without caring about what others thought, but wasn’t it Largo who laughed at him the most?

Even if he had truly fallen in love with the Duchess, he wouldn’t have committed an affair at the cost of sacrificing his position and what he had.

Then…

‘He must be using the Grand Duchess.’

If the Grand Duchess suddenly started supporting Largo, and everything about her preparing for divorce from the Grand Duke was part of his plan…

‘Largo is alive.’

This made it certain.

That he is using the Duchess while surviving.

And he can be sure of it.

The Grand Duchess might think it’s love, but Largo definitely doesn’t.

‘Poor thing.’

But despite feeling sorry for the Duchess, she was the one who contributed to my near death. And after that, there wasn’t even an apology.

So, I couldn’t let myself soften. I had to extract everything I could from the Grand Duchess, taking every bit of information she might have to offer.

‘First, I have to find out where Largo is.’

I believed that if I pushed hard enough, she would eventually spill the truth without even realizing it. With that thought in mind, I opened the carriage door and stepped outside.

***

‘I’m dying.’

Sylvester was still lying in bed.

His stomach was churning, and he felt like he might throw up just from standing, so he had no choice but to lie down.

That’s why he thought Ophelia was really amazing.

She didn’t give up despite the extreme pain. She refused to take the medicine, saying she could handle it.

‘And…’

In the midst of all this, she even handed him the letter and the notebook from his parents.

He thought that was really like Ophelia.

“Don’t you think my wife is really amazing?”

At Sylvester’s words, Neil, who had been flipping through the documents beside him, frowned.

“If you’re going to brag about your wife again, please keep it to yourself. And get back to work.”

“No, listen. No matter how I think about it, Ophelia is an amazing person. She’s strong and determined.”

“Yes, yes. I understand, so please hold the pen and sign it.”

“You can’t date because you’re so obsessed with work.”

“Haha. Don’t you feel guilty saying that after giving me so much work to make me obsessed with it?”

“Not at all.”

“…I should just throw it away.”

Neil grumbled and glared at Sylvester.

“Any traces of Largo?”

“Not yet. Since the day His Highness was killed by the Duke, there has been no information about his whereabouts anywhere.”

Tsk. Sylvester let out a sigh as he buried his head deeply into the pillow.

At that moment, Sylvester had definitely killed Largo. He had confirmed that his breath had stopped. He had clearly seen that Largo had become someone who could never come back to life.

The thought that it had all been a lie made him feel even worse. Whoo. Sylvester let out a low grunt, his face scrunching up in discomfort.

“So, isn’t he really dead?”

Neil asked cautiously

“Then what happened to those who broke into the annex?

At that response, Neil let out a frustrated groan and ruffled his hair.

“If they hadn’t committed suicide, we could have extracted more information from them.”

“They didn’t seem like they had the guts to commit suicide.”

“That’s why. They all died all at once.”

Sylvester recalled the incident where the intruders who had broken into the annex died before the interrogation even began.

Was that really suicide? If so, why did they all die at once?

If it wasn’t suicide, then…

“It could be black magic.”

“Yes?”

Neil tilted his head again at Sylvester’s muttering.

“I’m guessing that Largo faked his death by using the magic circle he had.”

“That’s right.”

“I’m also guessing that it was that power that ordered and killed those people.”

“Hmm. It’s possible.”

But all of this was just speculation. There was nothing certain, so Sylvester tossed and turned in frustration.

“First, finding Largo is difficult, so let’s think of something else.”

So he decided to change his mind.

“If Largo were alive, what would he do?”

“Hmm…”

After thinking for a moment, Neil answers.

“I think it will be difficult to reinstate him as the prince. After all, Largo is a dead person to the outside world.”

“That’s right.”

“If his goal was to survive, he could have left the empire and settled in another country.”

“He could have received help from the Emperor. After all, the Emperor had to know that Largo was alive in order to conduct that funeral.”

“Yes. But he didn’t leave. Instead, he broke into the annex.”

“Yes. To find the magic circle.”

That’s right.

If Largo’s only goal was to ‘survive,’ he would have fled to another country with the emperor’s help.

Anyway, since both Sylvester and Callian thought he was dead, if he went to a foreign country and lived in hiding, no one would threaten him.

But he didn’t.

Instead of going into exile, he sent intruders to the Duke’s residence.

Why?

Sylvester felt a chill run down his spine. For some reason, his mouth felt dry.

“This is just a hypothesis.”

He clenched and unclenched his fists repeatedly.

“What if Largo is in a state of madness?”

“…Yes?”

“So, what if he deliberately sent intruders to my house to let us know he’s still alive?”

As he continued, it seemed like it was becoming more of a conviction than a hypothesis. Sylvester’s eyes trembled.

“So…”

He turned to Neil and said.

“What if he lured Ophelia?”

“….”

A moment of silence.

At the end,

“Ophelia!”
