“Brother!”

Chesha, who had just barely escaped from Hilon, finally reunited with Belzeon in a touching moment.

As she leapt into his arms, Belzeon hugged her tightly without hesitation.

He carefully looked her over, checking for any signs of injury.

Only after making sure she was unharmed did he ask,

“Did that knight ask you anything strange?”

Since the knight had questioned Belzeon about Chesha’s biological parents, it was clear he was worried.

“There’s no somefing weird!”

But in truth… there had been plenty.

But there was nothing she could tell Belzeon.

Chesha, who told a white lie, hunched over to avoid further conversation.

“I’m tiwed…”

Whining about being tired like a real baby, Belzeon was completely preoccupied with that.

Thanks to his distraction, Chesha managed to get through the moment without having to talk about anything embarrassing.

When she entered the room assigned to her and Belzeon, she was deeply impressed.

The temple had given them an unexpectedly nice room for just being little guests.

It came with a bedroom, a living room, a small drawing room, and even a bathroom.

Chesha could easily guess that Hilon was the one behind the temple’s generous treatment.

‘That brat…’

It was really a good thing to be acquainted with someone powerful.

However, staying in such a nice room didn’t feel worth it to her.

Belzeon could hardly stay in the room. He was constantly busy, always searching for something here and there.

Still, thanks to placing Chesha safely in the temple, he could go to distant places with peace of mind.

Sometimes, Belzeon wouldn’t return until dawn after being out the entire day.

On those days, he would come to Chesha’s side as she slept quietly and lie down beside her before falling asleep.

She woke up to find herself in Belzeon’s arms.

‘This kind of thing… really reminds me of Kiern.’

Kiern often used to sneak into bed with her and fall asleep beside her.

Bloodlines really could be deceptive.

Just like she used to do with Kiern, Chesha gently patted the sleeping Belzeon with her small hand.

Her touch seemed to work—he visibly relaxed in his sleep.

When she touched his body, his face — which had been sleeping with a frown—softened.

Soon after, she fell asleep too, breathing peacefully.

‘Why are you walking around out there like this…?’

Seeing him so tired and worn out, it was clear he was dealing with something difficult.

And while Belzeon was busy running around,

Chesha finally had some quiet time to herself after a long while.

It was a peaceful, pleasant break—no teasing from the twins, no arguing with Kiern.

She got up late and ate whenever she wanted.

She took a leisurely stroll through the lush garden while exploring the temple.

When priests or knights spoke to the baby toddling alongside the puppy, she gave polite, appropriate answers.

Then, when she got bored, she returned to her room, read a book, hugged Hata, and took a nap.

It was a truly peaceful day.

However, even in all that calm, Chesha couldn’t help but feel a little uneasy.

‘I’m uncomfortable… Kiern’s been too quiet lately.’

He should have realized by now that she was staying at the temple.

Even so, it felt suspicious—everything was too quiet, and there had been no reaction from him.

Belzeon was probably keeping him from approaching easily, and he was also busy dealing with the aftermath of the fire…

Still, it was far too quiet.

Chesha, who had been going over one possibility after another in her head, suddenly realized something.

She had been waiting for Kiern.

Life had been so peaceful lately that she hadn’t been able to keep her thoughts in check.

Her body trembled slightly as she murmured to herself.

“Cayzy…”

And not long after

Chesha’s peaceful days were to be shattered.

***

It was the night Belzeon had gone out.

Hata had also left to gather ingredients for a potion, so Chesha was alone in the temple.

After playing for a while with some of the knights stationed there, they’d gone together to the dining hall for a meal. Now, she was back in her room, lazily rolling around.

The temple, cloaked in night, was utterly silent.

During the day, it buzzed with prayers and the footsteps of visiting believers—but at night, it was so quiet it felt almost eerie.

Over the past few days, she’d wandered the temple grounds, pretending to be a proper pilgrim.

But in truth, there hadn’t been anything particularly useful—or even interesting.

‘I must go to the Holy Empire….’

It was while she was lying on the sofa in the drawing room, deep in thought about how to infiltrate the Holy Empire.

She suddenly sensed someone approaching quickly.

The footsteps didn’t sound like Belzeon’s.

As Chesha sat up on the sofa, the door swung open.

“…?”

It was Hilon.

He had been so busy that she hadn’t seen him properly since the first day she arrived at the temple.

But now, he had appeared suddenly, and in the middle of the night.

Hilon coldly scanned the room.

After confirming that no one was hiding inside, he picked up Chesha into his arms.

Her eyes widened at the sudden abduction, but Hilon spoke coldly.

“Count Basilian has come to visit.”

Chesha took a deep breath.

“Stay by my side. He’s someone we can’t predict.”

It was a description that fit Kiern perfectly.

Just as Hilon said, staying by his side would be the safest.

Without a word, Chesha let herself be carried in Hilon’s arms.

Hilon moved quickly while holding Chesha.

The night was deep and dark, but the knights and priests of the temple were all awake and out.

They split into two sides like the sea parting at Hilon’s appearance.

The door to the temple was wide open.

In the black darkness where the cool night wind blew.

She saw two uninvited guests standing in front of the open door.

The slender man wearing a coat and holding a cane in one hand was Kiern.

‘Who’s next to Kiern?’

The woman standing beside him was a stranger Chesha had never seen before.

She was tall and had a very striking appearance.

Her pink and purple curly hair was unique.

She was wearing a trouser suit, not a dress or skirt, and her muscles were visible through the clothes.

Anyone could believe she was a knight trained in swordsmanship.

The woman waved her hand lightly.

Soft purple light shimmered in her palm.

In the next instant, the dark temple flooded with light.

Every candlestick and lamp ignites at once.

As the magic spread, Chesha immediately understood who she was dealing with.

‘Duke of Yvroiel…!’

She had guessed it based on her ability to cast tracking magic on Belzeon, but upon actually meeting the woman, the magical energy she sensed was undeniably powerful.

Chesha thought it might even be stronger than she had expected.

She looked at the woman with a mix of awe and intense curiosity.

But why?

Duke Yveroil was also looking at Chesha.

At first, she thought the Duke was looking at Hilon, but that wasn’t the case.

Her gaze was fixed directly on Chesha.

It was persistent and even tenacious, as if she had been waiting to see her.

When their eyes finally met,

Duke Yveroil winked at Chesha.

“….”

Chesha reflexively made a face of disgust.

Surprisingly, the Duke of Yvroiel seemed to like it even more.

She smiled broadly, looking ready to snatch Chesha up at any moment.

If Chesha hadn’t been in Hilon’s arms, the Duke might’ve used actual magic to take her.

The priests and knights around them also seemed to recognize the identity of the woman who wielded purple magic.

“Why is His Excellency the Duke of Yvroiel…?”

One of the holy priests muttered in disbelief.

The Duke of Yvroiel had suddenly arrived in the middle of the night.

If it had only been Kiern, they might have sent him away, telling him to return in the morning.

But no one could stop the Duke of Palen—a powerful figure from a great empire, and a collateral member of the imperial family.

Everyone was thrown into confusion, unsure how to react.

“Sorry for coming in late.”

The Duke said in a loud voice.

Her low, husky tone echoed through the temple’s solemn interior.

“I heard that my goddaughter was here, so I came—hoping I wouldn’t be seen as rude.”

The bishop, who had arrived belatedly after hastily tidying his robes, was drenched in sweat.

The elderly man looked so pale, it seemed he might collapse from the shock of the situation.

Gasping, he spoke,

“Your Excellency’s goddaughter is staying in our temple? This is… the first I’ve heard of it.”

“That’s to be expected, it hasn’t been publicly announced yet. ”

The Duke let out a light chuckle, noting that they were the first to hear about it.

“Chesha Basilian.”

Duke Yveroil pretended to point at Chesha with her finger.

“That child is my goddaughter.”
