How to Live the Life of a Demon Chapter 4 - Lucius Kendrick (4)

Author: CleiZz Editor: Aker

After finishing his work report, Dummett could not shake off his doubts.

This was because the Demon King was sitting at his office desk with a happy expression.

Normally, his face would have hardened as he looked at the documents piled up as if they were about to collapse, but today, even while working, the subtle smile on his face would not disappear.

The same was true for Mariella, who stayed by the Demon King’s side.

“You two seem to be in a good mood today.”

At Dummett’s words, the siblings looked at each other and then put down their pens as one.

She replied in a laughable voice.

“But the commander also has a bright complexion today, doesn’t he?”

“Is that so?”

Dummett scratched his cheek awkwardly.

He was in no position to say anything.

He seemed to be smiling like them.

“What about Lucius?”

Perhaps because it was a private occasion, the demon king’s tone of dealing with Dummett was very familiar.

In response to the Demon King’s question, Dummett shrugged his shoulders.

“He’s preparing sincerely, saying he can’t help it because he lost.”

“Really?”

The Demon King smiled with satisfaction.

He found it admirable that Lucius showed his displeasure in front of him, but diligently carried out the mission once he was given it.

Meanwhile, Dummett, who had finished his report, was quietly observing him.

The demon king had a pleasant look inwardly.

If he had been Dummett before raising Lucius, he would have been unimaginably soft and passive.

Tak. Tak.

The Demon King quietly tapped the desk with his fingertips. Did Lucius change him, or was his nature like this originally?

‘No… I’m not much different either.’

Lucius was the only one who always gave in to ridiculous provocations and tolerable rude remarks.

The Demon King buried his back deep in the chair. His eyes closed as he leaned back.

“I’m going to take a break, so if you want to ask me anything, ask me now.”

Dummett asked right away, as if he had been waiting for those words.

“What did Lucius say that time? When he attacks Your Majesty.”

“Hmm? Did he say he needed a punching bag?”

Unlike the delightful Mariella and the Demon King, Dummett gapped with a white face.

Lucas’s remarks were enough to be considered lèse-majesté but the Demon King’s voice was full of joy.

“Why should I be angry with Lucius? It’s really fascinating.”

The Demon King rested his chin on his hand and laughed quietly.

Then he remembered the first time he found Lucius’ gestation chamber.

The forest of the demon world has a high concentration of demon energy and is infested with strong demons, and is under the management of high-ranking demons.

Among them, Camel Forest was particularly dangerous and was being tended by the Demon King himself. The Camel Forest was a place where it was impossible for babies to grow because of the extreme miasma.

The first gestation chamber created in Camel was surprisingly large, and had a dark and dense magical energy that made the surrounding monsters suffocate.

He could tell at a glance that it was the gestation chamber of an unprecedentedly powerful demon.

“That guy has already become like this. Time goes so fast.”

“That’s right.”

“Did Lucius say he was going to Cyrus?”

“Yes. Now that I think about it, which academy did you graduate from?”

He recalled his childhood, which he had long since forgotten.

“I graduated from Torben.”

It was a story when the academy system was just established.

At that time, only Torben and Kiara Academy were established, but the two had different tendencies, so they used to roar and compete like enemies.

“Even though I look like this, I’m still static and intelligent.”

Dummett’s eyes twitched and frowned at the Demon King’s taunts.

The Demon King lightly laughed at the slight but clear expression.

“Torben would have been a nice choice for Lucius to attend.”

At first, the Demon King wanted Lucius to go to Torben.

It was also the academy he was from, and he thought it would best fit Lucius’ racial characteristics.

But Mariella had a different idea.

“Everything is good there, but the school uniform is not good. Moreover, the building is old and quite dull.”

The Demon King smiled brightly and acknowledged her words.

Mariella added to the demon king, “I don’t care where it is if it’s Lucius, but wouldn’t it be better to go to a place where school uniforms look good and buildings are beautiful?”

So the place she chose was Cyrus.

Cyrus’ school uniform had a neat but sophisticated design.

The black fabric appeared soft and warm, with intricate embroidery of gold thread adorning the collar and cuffs. The buttons were engraved with the emblem of Cyrus.

It gracefully cascaded from the shoulders to the waist, following a gentle curve.

It was none other than the shirt uniform that had caught her eye.

A plain white shirt, and a black leather harness on top.

That’s what understated beauty truly is.

“I also like Garnet’s Cravat. Don’t you think it would go very well with Lucius’ silver hair?”

An elegant red cravat that contrasts with the cold impression.

It will definitely make him stand out more.

“I think it will suit him well.”

The Demon King, who became infinitely weaker towards Mariella, agreed.

It was her insistence to apply to Cyrus, but since Lucius made the same selection, and as a result, she was right.

Dummett, who was listening to the story, questioned.

“So, the First Elder was also Torben?”

Since they are siblings who treat each other like precious jewels, he thought it would be natural for them to graduate from the same academy.

However, if that were the case, Torben would be powerful as it was said to have produced a contemporary demon king and first elder, but he had not heard such a rumor.

Contrary to Dummett’s expectations, the siblings couldn’t hide their bitter faces.

“Unfortunately, Mariella couldn’t attend the academy.”

“Well, my body was very weak then.”

“Were you weak…?”

Dummett couldn’t help but wonder.

It may have been like in the past, but today’s Mariella is an authority figure who boasts the best in the demon world due to her agility.

“It’s about when I was young. Thanks to my brother’ hard work, I’m fine now.”

“What is that about again?”

The Demon King waved his hand dryly.

“Anyway, that’s why I hoped Lucius wouldn’t be as disappointed as I was. I’m already late.”

After hearing her, Dummett felt he knew better why Mariella wanted Lucius to join the academy as much as she did.

“Thank you for taking care of the things I didn’t even pay attention to.”

“No, I did it because I wanted to do it. By the way, what kind of events allow an outsider to attend? There will probably be ceremonies, festivals, and can we also observe the way classes are conducted?”

Mariella’s eyes began to twinkle with anticipation.

She was like a parent who sent her own child to school.

“There will be events where you can observe. It would be nice to take a sneak peek during that time. Lucius would get angry if he found out, though.”

“My brother will stand out, but there won’t be many people who recognize me, so it’s okay. Oh, Dummett.”

“Yes.”

“If Lucius brings a friend home, please let me know. Understand?”

“I’ll do that.”

Dummett smiled lightly as she looked so excited.

* * *

Cyrus has the shortest history among the academies, so the achievements of its graduates weren’t as noticeable.

Although recent graduates are showing off their outstanding skills and stood out, but as they have yet to make a name for themselves, they remained at a disappointing level of fame.

Meanwhile, for the first time in the academy’s history, an elder was admitted. Lucius’ entrance would give them wings.

“First of all, I would like to offer a deep welcome and words of encouragement to all the new students who participated in Cyrus’ entrance ceremony today.”

As a student, Lucius attended the ceremony and felt anew that his position did not match his age.

If he had visited the academy as an elder, he would have been there giving a speech, not the dean.

In addition, the fact that students gathered here and the teachers’ skills were not reliable also played a part.

Dean of Cyrus, Glenn’s boring speech continued.

“Haam…”

10 minutes, 20 minutes, 30 minutes.

The longer the speech went on, the more boredom went on.

Even after waiting for a while, there was no sign of it ending, and Lucius’s eyebrows became deeply furrowed as he became increasingly irritated.

How is it that the dean’s speech is more boring than the Demon King’s speech?

In his frustration, he brushed his head back and his soft silver hair fell gently.

The eyes of Lucius, who had been sinking lower and lower, met with the dean.

“…So at our school… Gasp!”

The dean, whose gaze met with Lucius, let out a gasp and swallowed a futile breath.

The dean, avoiding eye contact and cautiously observing the situation, cleared his throat and hurriedly concluded his speech.

“Ahem, I wish the best of luck to our new students. That’s all for now.”

Still, he was glad the dean noticed it quickly.

Right in front of the podium were Delta class students holding flags with large numbers written on them.

It was to guide Epsilon new students to the classroom.

“The fourth class of Epsilon, please follow me!”

A student holding a large flag with the number 4 written on it saw that all the freshmen had gathered and began guiding them to their classes.

Cyrus divides the students into five classes.

From the top, Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, and Epsilon.

Epsilon is a class that you are assigned to as soon as you enroll, and you will be automatically promoted to Delta after taking the class for one year, regardless of your level of skill.

The classes above could only be promoted if they received good grades in regular promotion exams.

You will graduate 10 years after entering any class, and depending on your skills, you could graduate early.

“This is the place you’ll be staying in the future. Wait and the teacher will come.”

While Lucius was musing the student who guided him finished his work and left.

Whoosh.

Lucius opened the door to the class.

Desks and chairs arranged neatly in a large space with a faint scent of wood emanates from them.

Even the attendance register was placed on the teacher’s table.

‘One year from now…’

Lucius could not easily enter the classroom due to the awkwardness and unfamiliarity he felt in a scene he thought he would never see in his lifetime.

Then the students behind him lightly pushing Lucius forward passed by.

‘That’s interesting.’

It’s lively, dynamic and noisy.

He could feel the youthfulness of demons who had not yet reached adulthood.

‘Is this what it felt like after the second coming-of-age ceremony?’

Reflecting on his past, Lucius took a seat at the back, retracing his memories of how he was during that age.

He could see the scenery inside the class at a glance.

There were students who already knew each other and greeted each other, students who tactfully talked to them first, and students who were shy and hovered around.

He followed with his eyes some of the first students he had spotted.

One of them was talking among the other students.

It was a fairy named Rayel who took first place in this written exam.

‘Did it say they were of the fairy race? I heard Rayel was the top scorer in this written exam, right?’

Before the coming-of-age ceremony, the fairies were noticeably smaller among the demons.

But Rayel was smaller than Lucius expected.

A boy who suits the impression of being more adorable and cute rather than being cool or handsome.

Perhaps it’s because of his curly, fluffy hair like a puppy’s and the presence of baby fat that hasn’t completely disappeared yet, making him even more endearing.

Rayel looked around as if he felt Lucius’ gaze, and eventually met his eyes.

Rayel was speaking to the demon standing next to him, paused and strode towards Lucius.

“Hello, my name is Rayel Feo.”

Rayel smiled as he greeted him.

An expression full of anticipation and joy of a new meeting.

His hair had a softer, fluffier impression than the flowing clouds.

“I’m Kian Bohr.”

Lucius turned his gaze towards the owner of the other voice. It was Kian, a large student, who stood out even more as he stood next to the unusually small Rayel.

Kian was a member of the Bearfolk tribe, and a demon that proudly took the top spot of the practical section of the last entrance exam.

‘He’s a typical beast-type demon.’

The fact that his lips are pressed tightly together, with the corners downturned, and his reddish eyes looking ominous, filled with discontent, was particularly noticeable.

Kian’s gaze that met Rayel once more before meeting his own made his brow furrowed in a slight frown.

Lucius looked alternately at Kian and Rayel again.

Did they say they were childhood friends?

It is indeed surprising for them to be so different. Not only in appearance but also in their academic performance, with Rayel being the top scorer in the written exam and Kian excelling in the practical exam.

Lucius smirked as if finding the situation amusing and asked, “I wonder what brings you to approach me?”
