Side Story 1. The Following Year, Everyday Life

When Selleana suddenly woke up from sleep, even without opening her eyes, she knew exactly where she was. The place was her fiancé’s bedroom in the Magic Tower. Supporting her neck was his firm upper arm, and the sensation against her cheek was his solid, bare chest. Since she woke up there almost every day, the ceiling she would see upon opening her eyes would be familiar.

Overwhelmed with satisfaction, Selleana turned and hugged her fiancé’s waist. “Mmm…”

“Are you awake?”

As usual, he responded immediately, as if he had been awake for some time. He had been holding still, afraid to wake Selleana, but now he relaxed.

When she opened her eyes, she saw his long silver hair spread out.

“You’re so handsome today too, my fiancé.”

Rakrensius laughed softly, left a short kiss on Selleana’s ear, and hugged her tightly with his strong arms. Their bare legs intertwined, pressing their bodies closely together.

“You can sleep a bit more.”

“What time is it?”

“Six o’clock.”

Mmm… I should get up. We need to be ready and meet by eight.”

“…”

“Aren’t you leaving around the same time? So… ouch.”

A sensation that couldn’t be called pain rose in her ear as Rakrensius nibbled on it. He licked the cartilage of her ear, then traced along the ridge… As he pulled Selleana closer, he lowered his head and left a kiss under her ear.

“It makes me sad that you’re already thinking about leaving.”

Despite having savored his scent all night, she found it sweet every time. The scent of his bath oils had faded, replaced by her own unique body smell, which he found irresistibly tempting. He bit her earlobe, licked under it, and gently gnawed at the muscle connecting her neck.

Mmm, Collin…”

His kisses trailed down to her prominent collarbone. As his angel chuckled lazily and wrapped her slender arms around his head, she spoke.

“Did you hold back because you tried not to wake me up again?”

A voice, still heavy with sleep, resonated softly from above his head. Following it were kisses raining down through his silver hair.

Meanwhile, Rakrensius was still busy exploring Selleana’s skin. He both wanted to wake her and held back, which was true.

How could he have ever thought he could live without this? Holding Selleana, falling asleep and waking up with her, being completely pressed against her without any gap—in those moments, he pitied his past self. Living a life without knowing that what he carried was unfair, just pushing away anything that seemed good.

He couldn’t stop feeling the softness of Selleana’s skin, the curves of her body. His lips kept moving downward.

Mmm, it tickles…”

His hand moved along her waist, his other hand tracing the deep indentation of her navel. When he stretched out his hand as if measuring her waist, Selleana’s chuckling vibrated through his palm.

“Stop it.” Selleana gently stroked his head with her fingertips, a feeble protest.

Rakrensius glanced at her face and continued what he was doing.

“I have a busy day today.”

“I’m busy too.”

“That’s what I mean. We’re both busy today, so…”

“…”

Despite her words, he didn’t stop, and Selleana, feeling the intensity of his exploration, made up her mind. “That’s enough!” She suddenly sat up.

Rakrensius’s blue eyes looked up at her with a mix of regret and determination.

“You need to get ready to leave too.”

“Yes, but…”

“No matter how much you don’t want to go, you should go diligently. They gave you the valuable territory of Riishuryung because of this.”

“Like you said, it’s like I received a lump sum payment for the child support I didn’t get in my childhood.”

“Besides, today is a day to be more reverent, isn’t it?”

“I’ve lived reverently all my life; can’t I be a bit frivolous on a day when everyone else is reverent?”

“Don’t even say such things…”

Who was the man whose ears turned bright red whenever he tried to say something sly? Selleana was exasperated as she gave Rakrensius a stern look.

“Since when did our Tower Master become so childish?”

“Since you told me I didn’t have to hold back anything…? You spoiled me.”

Ah, it tickles…!”

Rakrensius buried his face in Selleana’s neck and hugged her waist. His touch was so gentle that Selleana couldn’t help but laugh. Her laughter was somewhat exaggerated, knowing that otherwise, the atmosphere would inevitably turn amorous.

“Stop it, okay?”

“Is it just ticklish?”

“Well, I mean…” Selleana tried to push away his hands, which were tickling her waist, hesitating for a moment. In truth, it wasn’t just tickling, and she didn’t really mind him continuing….

He couldn’t miss the hesitation in her voice. Seizing the opportunity, Rakrensius quickly kissed Selleana’s lips. “Blame yourself.”

Huh?”

“Who told you to be so alluring…?”

Geez, really. Who taught you this?”

“Let me blame your sweetness and beauty. It won’t take too long.”

“…Well, I guess a little delay wouldn’t hurt.”

With a coy look, Selleana wrapped her arms around his neck. Rakrensius chuckled softly and pressed his tongue into her mouth.

* * *

“Why are you so late?”

Mmm, well, I overslept a bit.”

It was when Selleana returned to her bedroom using a scroll. Michi, who had been guarding the room alone, greeted her. It wasn’t a question Michi asked out of ignorance.

“Overslept my foot…” Michi smirked and poked Selleana’s side. “How can you make someone without a fiancé live with this jealousy?”

“People might think you want to get married. Do something about those love letters that flood in every day first.”

“They won’t stop just because I tell them to. You got them too, didn’t you?” Michi shrugged. As Michi’s popularity in high society increased with the start of this year’s social season, her reverse harem power grew stronger by the day.

It had been half a year since Selleana and Rakrensius started publicly dating by attending an imperial banquet together for the first time. A few days later, a proposal letter from the Duke of Ansi arrived at Elard, and soon after, the two had a private engagement ceremony. The pretext was not to cause unnecessary fuss before the upcoming crown princess selection. The real reason was to accommodate Rakrensius, who was extremely introverted. Though the ceremony was private, the engagement itself was widely known throughout Nepelsian.

The engagement ring Duke Ansi gave to Lady Elard during the proposal became a hot topic in high society. The 20-carat diamond ring, enchanted by the tower master, shone more brilliantly than any other diamond. It was like a belated response to Lady Elard’s persistent courtship, where she had swept through all the shops in the city with gifts.

“Di insists on emphasizing that it was bought with the royalties from Wilshe.”

“Oh my, is this a gift because I’m a fan…? No, I guess I did contribute a few million Reot, right?”

In reality, it was more like a secret gift from a mutual friend that only the two knew about. However, engagement was also a hot topic within Elard for another reason.

Since the engagement ceremony, Selleana had stayed out almost every night as if she had nothing to hide anymore. Her father couldn’t do anything about it. He had no concrete evidence, only suspicions.

Selleana would finish her daily tasks, have dinner, sometimes bid her parents goodnight, and then, fully prepared for bed, she would head to Rakrensius’s place. One of the enchantments on the 20-carat proposal ring was a teleportation spell that allowed her to go to him anytime. It was as if her room and Rakrensius’s room were connected. She even went in her nightgown and slippers, just as if she were at home.

“Still, you should have come early today, right? The maids have been busy since morning.” Michi pouted as she pulled the bell rope. The maids had to hurry to help them get ready by the appointed time.

“Why? You were late yesterday after visiting your estate with Brother Theo. I went over waiting for you. Did you get anything?”

“Yeah. I brought some amazing white wine. You should try it later. My parents were thrilled too, saying there are a lot of good things in the estate despite the low vineyard grade.”

“Does it suit your taste?”

“Of course. Even then young master liked it too, and I gave Lord Peri a few glasses last night. He said it tasted like juice.”

Wow, that’s a high praise.”

“Right? The price is only a few thousand Reot, and since the young master is helping with distribution, it’s a good deal. Once your fiancé makes us a wine refrigerator, it’ll be perfect. Right?” Michi clasped her hands and looked at Selleana with sparkling pink eyes.

“Goodness… Our Lady Branto has become a merchant, hasn’t she?”

“Indeed, I picked the right parents, didn’t I?”
