After drinking the milk Angela had given her, Rosieta took advantage of the other maids’ break to return to the villa. There, she called Daniel, Colin, and Lucas into one room.

It was the first time Rosieta had ever gathered all three of them together—not just at the summer villa, but even back at the main estate.

The location was Daniel’s room, right next to the dressing room.

Just in case, she locked both the door and the terrace window.

“What’s the reason you called us, Rosie?”

Lucas looked delighted that Rosieta had summoned them, while Colin simply observed her. Her expression was more serious than usual.

“I called you because I have something to report.”

Rosieta’s voice was heavy.

“Report?”

Daniel looked at her in confusion.

“I’ve realized something while working here for the past few months—there’s a serious power struggle among the maids.”

“Are you talking about the fight with that maid at the last party?”

Colin, who had overheard parts of the story, asked. Daniel, who had arrived at the villa later, wasn’t aware of what had happened.

Even Lucas, who had been brimming with excitement, turned serious.

“…If you mean that Angela maid, isn’t she already being disciplined at the quarters? She’s going to be fired as soon as we return to the main estate, so you don’t have to worry too much, Rosie. Or… has she been harassing you in the quarters too?”

“It’s not that, Lucas. I just wanted to tell you about the serious hierarchy among the maids—something you all should know.”

“Hierarchy?”

The three of them had no idea what she was about to say.

Rosieta took a deep breath, her shoulders rising and falling.

If she wanted to talk about Angela and Miriam’s tyranny, she would have to reveal things she had kept hidden all this time.

“…The truth is, ever since I first came here, there were maids who bullied me.”

“What?”

Lucas nearly jumped out of his seat.

“Angela was part of the group, but she wasn’t the leader.”

“A group…? Why are you only telling us this now?”

Daniel looked incredulous but soon met Rosieta’s eyes. Then, as if he had figured out the reason, he fell silent.

Knowing Rosieta’s personality, he could guess why she had kept quiet until now.

“I was the one who insisted on working here. It wouldn’t have been right to complain to you just because things got a little tough.”

“Still…”

“I’m sorry for telling you so late. I promised not to keep secrets, but in the end, I’ve been hiding this all along.”

“…So, aside from Angela, who else bullied you?”

There was a quiet anger in Daniel’s voice.

“Miriam. She seemed like the real leader of the group.”

“Miriam… I know her. She’s been around since before I inherited the title of count.”

“I never thought she was that kind of person.”

You couldn’t always tell what someone was capable of just by looking at them.

Having spent years living alongside Miriam at the estate, the three of them frowned.

That was when Colin quietly spoke up.

“Rosie has endured all of this without telling us. Angela will be fired soon anyway, and that Miriam maid isn’t even here at the villa.”

“……”

“But now you’re bringing up this whole bullying issue… That means there’s another reason, right? Something else you want to tell us?”

Rosieta nodded without hesitation.

“I recently heard that Miriam has been deliberately framing other maids to get rid of them.”

“What?”

“She would push them into the toilette room and falsely accuse them of stealing jewelry, making sure only the maids she wanted remained at the estate.”

Lucas looked completely stunned. It was a level of malice he had never even imagined.

“Then… all those maids who were kicked out for stealing over the years… were actually innocent?”

“Most of them, yes. The maids who reported those thefts—weren’t they always the same one or two people?”

At Rosieta’s words, the three of them fell silent.

The thief in the toilette room and the maid who reported them…

The latter had always been the same one or two people.

Why had they never realized this before?

Daniel was speechless for a moment before finally asking,

“…I understand now. We never paid attention to the maids because we left everything to Mrs. Rosa. So, should we just return to the estate and fire those two?”

“Well. You’re going to do that based on my words alone?”

At her question, Daniel looked at her in disbelief.

But Rosieta, as if expecting his response, remained calm.

“Miriam has spent years as a senior maid, tormenting others. But all of that happened in the past, and there’s no evidence left now.”

“…But Rosie, you just told us, didn’t you? No other maid has ever said anything like this to us before. Sure, their livelihoods were at stake, but still…”

“You can’t just fire two people based on my testimony alone. Even if I’m close to you.”

Daniel’s expression became unreadable.

“Then what do you want to do?”

“..…”

“I get the feeling you already have a plan. If you have something in mind, I’d like to hear it.”

“……”

“You’re both a worker in our household and our friend. And probably, as an outsider, you’ve observed the maids’ dynamics more clearly than us.”

The three of them waited for her answer.

Rosieta stared at the edge of the table in deep thought before finally speaking.

“There’s actually… one more thing I’ve been keeping from you.”

It was a secret she never imagined she’d reveal like this.

Something she had wanted to hide for the rest of her life.

Telling them that she developed this after being separated from them… Would it make her seem weak?

But…

‘But this isn’t my fault anymore.’

She didn’t know exactly what Angela had put in the milk.

But she did remember the marks she found on her new cord last night.

A dimly lit room, illuminated only by a single crimson candle.

Holding the cord up to the flame, she had seen its elongated shadow stretch across the orange wall.

A shadow filled with gaping holes.

Had she not used the candlelight to examine it, she would never have noticed the countless punctures—crafted to make the cord snap with just a little force.

That was when she realized.

‘Angela is trying to use my sleepwalking against me.’

That was why she had drugged the milk.

Angela’s plan was to frame her as a thief while simultaneously exposing her weakness to everyone.

Against her will.

By force.

Her sleepwalking wasn’t something she had chosen.

But she had always been ashamed of it. She had gone to great lengths to keep it a secret.

And yet, today, she had almost been forced into revealing it—used as a pawn by someone else.

Rosieta instinctively rubbed her wrist.

Then, she let out a faint, uncertain smile and spoke as if it were nothing.

“I actually have a condition. Something I developed after parting with you all.”

Angela stood frozen in place, unable to move.

She was sure she had trapped Rosieta in the toilette room.

It had only taken a few minutes to run to the maids’ quarters, wake everyone up, and bring them here. A short, fleeting moment.

Rosieta hadn’t wandered anywhere else.

She should have been right here.

‘Why…?’

Angela’s pupils trembled violently.

Cold moonlight reflected off the luxurious wardrobes and glass jewelry cases.

And standing inside the toilette room—where the person she had expected should have been—were two men, their backs to the moonlight, staring straight at her.

“What is this commotion about, Mrs. Rosa?”

Colin asked, his voice devoid of any emotion.

The usual warmth in his expression, the kindness he extended to everyone, had completely vanished.

The maids swallowed nervously at his low, subdued tone.

They had rushed here expecting to catch a sneaky little thief in the act—some lowly maid trying to steal in the middle of the night.

But now, standing inside the room, was one of the masters of the house.

Fear gripped them.

Mrs. Rosa, too, jolted awake from her daze, her eyes widening.

“…Master Colin? Why are you here…?”

“That’s what I should be asking you, Mrs. Rosa.”

Colin’s voice was calm, but the subtle sharpness in his words made Mrs. Rosa stiffen.

“You’re wandering the mansion in the middle of the night, leading the maids around like this. What exactly is going on?”

His usually gentle green eyes now held a wary edge she had never seen before.

That look alone sent a chill down Mrs. Rosa’s spine.

“A-Ah, well… This girl said she saw a thief sneaking into the dressing room, so we came to check.”

Flustered, Mrs. Rosa gave Angela a small shove, signaling her to speak up and explain.

Angela hesitated before taking two unsteady steps forward.

Her face was deathly pale.

Beside Colin, Lucas tilted his head.

“A thief? What are you talking about? A thief entered this room?”

“Angela, why are you hesitating? Tell them exactly what you saw.”

Mrs. Rosa snapped impatiently.

“I-I…”

Angela barely stopped herself from hiccupping.

“I saw Rosieta enter this room in the middle of the night. She’s a new maid, but she’s always been vain, carrying around expensive things of unknown origin…”

Angela’s voice was weak, her words trailing off.

She truly believed she was speaking the truth.

After all, when she had sneaked into Rosieta’s room to tamper with her cord, she had seen it—new dresses and hats hidden under the bed.

Dresses made of fabric far too luxurious for a mere maid to afford.

The sight of them had filled Angela with an uncontrollable urge to rip them apart with a dagger.

A vain, arrogant girl. She must have gone into debt to buy those things. How ridiculous.

Keeping her head bowed, Angela continued, her voice trembling.

Because of her lowered posture, she couldn’t see the expressions on Colin and Lucas’s faces.

She kept piling accusation after accusation on Rosieta, desperately trying to escape the suffocating tension in the room.

“She suddenly left the maids’ quarters in the middle of the night. I know I’m supposed to be confined, but I had a bad feeling, so I followed her.”

“And?”

Angela flinched at Lucas’s cold response but forced herself to go on.

“S-So… I saw her enter the room with my own eyes. I immediately told Mrs. Rosa! I woke the other maids to catch the thief and brought them here!”
