“Yes, that’s why I followed as well.”

Mrs. Rosa bent her knees slightly as she spoke. She appeared polite, but it was clear she, too, wanted to escape this bizarre situation as quickly as possible.

Lucas lowered his gaze, glancing between the two of them.

“I see. You woke everyone to report a maid sneaking into a room full of jewels in the middle of the night.”

“Yes… that’s right…”

“But you’re lying. No one else has entered this room.”

“What? What do you mean…?”

Angela’s expression went completely blank. She looked as if she didn’t understand what she had just heard.

“…I swear I saw her enter this room. With my own two eyes, I saw her step inside, into a room filled with precious jewels!”

She had locked Rosieta in herself, slamming the door shut. She had been the only one inside.

And yet, they were telling her that Rosieta had never entered?

“I don’t know what you think you saw, but Colin and I have been in this room all evening since the sun set.”

“That’s… impossible…”

“Why do you think it’s impossible?”

“I really saw her. She walked into this room. If she’s not here, then where else could she be? She wasn’t at the quarters either!”

Angela desperately turned to everyone in the toilette room, pleading with them to believe her.

But no one did.

Instead, they looked at her as if she were speaking nonsense.

A wave of fear gripped her.

Mrs. Rosa clicked her tongue in irritation and furrowed her brows.

“Angela, you must have seen things in the dark.”

“No, Mrs. Rosa! I’m certain of it!”

“But the young masters have been here the entire time. And yet, you woke up all the maids who have to work tomorrow… Good grief.”

Mrs. Rosa’s face twisted in displeasure. Her eyes now regarded Angela as nothing but a nuisance.

Angela felt panic creeping in.

At that moment, she met Lucas’s gaze.

His piercing blue eyes, as sharp as a well-honed blade, made her shudder.

Lucas lowered his voice, muttering coldly.

“That’s right. You’re the same person who tried to push the red-haired maid into the fountain. And the same one caught tormenting a maid in front of the Büllossen head family.”

“T-That was a misunderstanding, young master! And about the fountain—y-you never even listened to my side of the story!”

“Do I need to hear an excuse for why you tried to push someone into a fountain? Or why you bullied a maid in front of a noble family? Or why you left the quarters despite being under confinement?”

Angela’s cheeks burned with humiliation at his blatant contempt.

“I-I’m sorry for leaving the quarters. But I only did it to protect the master’s jewels—”

“Don’t bother with pathetic excuses.”

Lucas’s voice was as cold as ice.

His open hostility made Angela’s throat tighten with suppressed frustration.

Her face turned red with humiliation as she stammered,

“…Young master, you don’t really know me. I don’t know how she managed to seduce you, but I’ve worked in this house much longer than she has! Treating me like this is completely unfair…”

“Angela! How dare you say something so disgraceful? Stop this at once!”

Mrs. Rosa was horrified.

A mere maid had just implied that there was something improper between a noble and another servant.

Angela had completely overstepped her bounds.

Just then, Lucas let out a dry, mocking smile, as if he couldn’t believe what he was hearing.

And beside him, Colin spoke in a calm, deliberate voice.

“Now that I think about it… Something like this happened earlier this year too, didn’t it, Mrs. Rosa? A maid was caught stealing from the dressing room.”

“Pardon? Oh… Ah, yes. You must be referring to Luina.”

“And the year before that, as well.”

“You must mean Sarah.”

“Why does this keep happening in our estate? Everyone knows that stealing from the master’s jewels is a serious crime.”

“Well… Many of the maids struggle financially, so perhaps…”

Mrs. Rosa fumbled for an answer.

Colin responded with a polite but hollow smile.

“Now that I think about it… The maid who reported Luina and Sarah. Their accuser was always the same person, wasn’t it?”

“That’s…”

“Why do you think that is, Mrs. Rosa?”

For the first time, Mrs. Rosa seemed at a loss for words.

Then, from the back of the group, Mika stepped forward.

“It’s because Miriam and that maid planned everything!”

“Mika?”

Mika, now fully awake, glared at Angela with open rage.

Her piercing gaze made Angela visibly flinch.

“Miriam and this maid conspired? What do you mean?”

Colin asked, pretending not to know.

Mika hesitated for a moment, but then, as if making up her mind, she straightened her back and spoke firmly.

“Luina, Sarah, and Yuria were all kicked out because Miriam targeted them. Miriam always used the same trick to get rid of the maids she didn’t like.”

“Lies! This girl is lying!”

Angela shrieked in desperation.

But Mrs. Rosa raised a hand, signaling her to be quiet.

Mika clenched her fists and continued,

“Miriam locked all three of them in the toilette room. Then she planted the master’s jewelry in their belongings, making it look like they were the thieves.”

“Stop it…”

“And that disgraceful scheme was assisted by this maid, Angela. Earlier this year, before Luina was kicked out, I saw Angela slip the master’s ring into Luina’s bag with my own two eyes.”

“STOP IT!”

Angela was terrified.

This was going in the exact opposite direction of what she had planned.

She had only wanted to frame Rosieta, to drag her down with her.

Why was everything unraveling like this?

Angela was nearly in a state of panic. Meanwhile, Mika continued to spill everything she knew.

“Angela was clearly trying to pull the same trick on Rosieta, master.”

“No! It’s all lies! Liar!”

Mika’s eyes burned with fury as she glared at Angela.

Beside her, Angie nodded firmly.

“I saw it too, Mrs. Rosa, young masters. I saw Angela sneaking out of Luina’s room.”

“…”

“And just yesterday, it seemed like she was sneaking out of Rosieta’s room as well.”

“…Then why are you only saying this now, Angie? You should have come to me before Luina was kicked out.”

Mrs. Rosa’s voice was disapproving.

To her, Mika and Angie’s accusations were only making this late-night fiasco even worse.

Fanning the flames of an already raging fire.

On top of that, it was her duty to manage conflicts and grievances among the maids.

Her cold reaction made Angie’s expression falter.

“I was… I was too scared, madam. Miriam had the power to replace any maid at will. She had been here the longest and was close to you.”

“…”

“But Rosieta is our friend now, and we’ve decided not to turn a blind eye to Miriam and Angela’s cruelty anymore.”

“…”

“Until now, we ignored their bullying because our livelihoods were at stake. It was cowardly, and I regret it.”

Tears welled in Angie’s eyes.

Mrs. Rosa looked back and forth between Mika and Angie in astonishment.

Meanwhile, Angela stood frozen, her face now completely drained of color.

Desperate, she turned to Colin, clutching at his sleeve.

“Young master, it’s all lies! They’re trying to slander me! They’re just delusional!”

“Angela! How dare you speak so rudely?”

Mrs. Rosa tried to pry her off, but Angela refused to let go.

Tears streamed down her face as she clung to Colin.

“It was all Miriam! She made me do everything! I never did anything wrong! The pranks on the maids, the false accusations of theft, the bullying of new maids—it was all Miriam, not me!”

“Oh?”

Colin’s voice was unreadable.

For a fleeting moment, Angela thought he might believe her.

So she clung even tighter, desperate for his sympathy.

“But then, why did you try to push that red-haired maid into the fountain? That was clearly your decision, wasn’t it? Miriam, who’s at the main estate, couldn’t have ordered you to do that.”

“T-That…”

Angela’s lips quivered.

This was her chance.

She had to say something to get out of this.

Colin was the kindest of the three young masters, the most gentle-hearted.

Angela quickly scrambled to put together a defense.

“She insulted me first! She threatened to spread false rumors that I was being promiscuous with men! She stomped on my belongings and caused a scene!”

“…”

“I-It was self-defense! But just at that moment, Young Master Lucas showed up, and he scolded me without knowing the full story.”

“…”

“Young masters, you don’t know the truth. That girl—she’s vain, selfish, and utterly pathetic. I only tolerated her out of pity, but…”

The lies poured out effortlessly.

Mika and Angie, listening from behind, were utterly speechless.

Rosieta was nothing like that.

They were about to object when—

“Oh?”

Colin’s voice was mild.

“You seem to know a lot about her.”

“O-Of course! I was the one who took care of her when she first arrived. I know her best. And then, suddenly, she turned on me—”

“So, you’ve known her for about three months, then?”

“Y-Yes. Probably…”

At that moment, the light in Colin’s eyes vanished.

With an expression of complete indifference, he coldly pushed Angela off him.

She stumbled backward, looking up at him in shock.

His usual warmth was gone, replaced by an icy gaze that froze her to the core.

Colin looked down at her, now kneeling on the floor, and spoke in a quiet, steady voice.

“That’s funny. Because I’ve known her for years—far longer than those three months of yours.”

“…”

“She’s my friend. Someone I would never trade for anything. A friend I grew up with in the orphanage.”

“My family.”
