At the entrance to the general hospital Woojin had visited, Yeon-young took a deep breath.

Laurendia patted her on the back without saying a word.

Yeon-young walked slowly into the building. It was a lazy afternoon, so there were few people around.

They checked each name on the sign outside the hospital room.

“I wonder if I’m really here.”

“Mmm…”

‘What should I do if I’m really alive?’ she thought, her mind’s racing.

She was more comfortable if she didn’t exist in this hospital.

Checking the text, Laurendia suddenly stopped walking and turned around to look at Yeon-young.

“To be honest, I think you could be.”

“You do?”

“Have I ever told you about my abilities?”

“…You said you were a guide.”

“That’s right, a guide to lost souls.”

Laurendia took a slow step toward her, then lifted her hands and gently placed them in the air.

Yeon-young stared up at her, uncomfortable. She ran her index finger along her long, gnarled fingers one by one.

Her fingers stopped at her right pinky.

“There’s a thread here.”

“A thread?”

At Laurendia’s mention of a thread, Yeon-young lowered her head and stared at her finger.

But all she could see was the smooth white back of her hand.

Laurendia grabbed her right pinky finger and rubbed it hard. Yeon-young grimaced through the pain.

“Tanato isn’t a perfect world, and ours is unstable, just like this one.”

“…….”

“That’s why sometimes people come to Tanato when their lives aren’t over.”

“They’re not dead?”

“Yes. When I do, I see a thread from my spirit body. It’s my ability.”

“Threads…”

“It’s my job to sort out the souls with threads and put them back where they belong.”

Suddenly, Laurendia’s words made sense, as she was an expert in this field.

As Laurendia’s touch faded away, Yeon-young slowly lowered her hand in the air.

“And I can see your thread, too. It’s too faint to make out, but it’s there.”

After she finished, Laurendia turned around and pointed her finger at a hospital room.

At the entrance to the room was a familiar name: Yeon-Young Kim. Yeon-Young pushed past Laurendia and stepped into the room.

In the deepest recesses of the silent room, she saw a curtained-off spot.

Yeon-Young swallowed dryly and pushed through the curtain. Nothing unusual happened.

There was Yeon-young, alive and sound asleep.

“She’s alive.”

“Yes, she’s alive.”

Yeon-young bit her lip tightly and stared at the image of herself lying on the bed.

A nurse came in through the curtains. She checked the IV in Yeon-young’s arm and replaced it with a different kind.

The old man, who had been watching the scene from the side, spoke up.

“Is the young lady awake yet?”

“Yes, everything’s fine, but she’s not conscious.”

“She should wake up soon, it’s not good for her to lie down for so long.”

The old man mumbled something about it not being a big deal and lay down on the bed.

Yeon-young looked a little closer at her face. It looked like she’d been in a car accident and had no color.

If someone touched her cheek with a finger, her eyes would open at any moment.

Yeon-young slumped back onto the bed, as if she were fainting. She was indeed alive.

Laurendia checked her body carefully. She looked at her right hand for a long moment, then

stood up.

“So that’s why you were unsteady.”

“What?”

“Maybe your powers were unstable because you’re still here.”

“What?”

“You can go back to this body if you want to, and I can help you.”

“What happens if I go in here?”

“You’ll forget your memories of Tanato, and you’ll just continue living this life as a human.”

At Laurendia’s explanation, Yeon-young sighed deeply.

Coming back to life.

It was one of the things she had hoped for when she first realized she was dead after the car accident.

But now, she was more disturbed than happy to hear it.

Yeon-young naturally thought of Ryu Won’s face in the fields of the Fourth Division.

When he had heard that she was headed here, his face had been colored with despair. Still, Ryu Won didn’t stop her.

His white eyes swayed with the wind. The breath he held as he watched Yeon-young’s determined face. The touch that never reached her.

Every single one of his actions held her back.

She hasn’t been able to unravel a single link to Ryu Won yet.

But can she forget everything and choose a new life?

Can she give up her life in Tanato and go back?

As Yeon-young’s face grew darker and darker with continued worry, Laurendia patted her on the back.

“You don’t have to choose right now, there’s still time.”

“Do you have any idea how much time I have?”

“Um…, three days. After three days, you can’t go back.”

It was barely enough time to think about it.

But she had no choice, so she nodded and accepted the situation.

Laurendia left her to think about it and went back to Branch 4. An urgent call rang out.

Yeon-young was left alone there, staring at herself. The sun was already setting outside the window.

She quietly got up from her seat and walked out of the hospital room.

“Mr. Ryu Won.”

Ryu Won leaned back against the wall with his arms folded and his eyes narrowed.

He didn’t open his eyes, even though he must have sensed Yeon-young’s feigned interest.

Yeon-young walked over to him and touched his arm.

He opened his eyes, revealing a pair of snowy pupils.

“When did you get here?”

“I don’t know.”

As he answered, Ryu Won fingered the ring on his left ring finger.

It was a habit he had when he was deep in thought. He would be lying if he said he had just arrived.

“I hate lying.”

Yeon-young walked ahead, deeper into the hallway.

There was a straight-backed chair under the window, just big enough for two adults.

She sat down first, and Ryu Won sat down next to her.

He fidgeted with the leather of the chair, a little uneasily, and it didn’t look like him.

In her eyes, there was a white core that swayed unsteadily.

‘Uh… Why?’

A black aura rose above the white core.

Ryu Won hadn’t been this energized when she was awake since the confrontation with Zhaolin.

Yeon-young quickly reached out and touched his left ring finger.

Ryu Won’s pupils fluttered slightly and he stared at her questioningly.

Feeling the warmth of her hand, Ryu Won remained still for a moment before gently pulling her hand away. The black aura disappeared as if it had appeared out of nowhere.

She wondered why it had appeared so suddenly.

After remaining silent, Yeon-young began to recall Woojin’s memories.

“You’re the one who possessed Woojin, right?”

“…That’s right, it was me.”

“Why did you do that?”

“It was just a simple coincidence that I ran into you, but I recognized you at once.”

“Recognized what?”

“That the person I’ve been waiting for and looking for is here, alive and well.”

Yeon-Young and Ryu Won’s gazes met in midair.

His brow furrowed slightly and his lips pursed as he remembered.

He frowned slightly and pursed his lips. Ryu Won clenched his fists slightly and continued.

“At first, I just wanted to watch.”

“…….”

“But when I saw you alive, I got greedy, even though I knew it would end badly.”

“Can any person be possessed?”

“No. Of all the people I tried, there was only one who succeeded, Sun Woojin.”

“You’re a repeat offender.”

Ryu Won’s gaze dropped downward at Yeon-young’s point.

“One time turned into two, two turned into three, and then years passed, until he got his tail stepped on by a rookie.”

“Ah…”

At that moment, Yeon-young’s mind flashed back to Ryu Won’s probationary episode.

When Yeon-young looked at him in disbelief, Ryu Won gave a small nod in agreement.

He was caught coming downstairs to see Yeon-young.

‘What should I do with this man who has no idea what to do?’

‘What on earth could Kim Yeon-young do to make Ryu Won do this?’

She raised one hand and slapped her own cheek. She fought back the laughter that threatened to escape.

It was hard not to be angry at the ridiculousness of his actions, which were obviously nothing more than deception.

Ryu Won stared at the ground in silence.

“Ms. Yeon-young. As for me, I don’t regret possessing Sun Woojin’s body.”

“…….”

“I’m sure you’re scared and tired of me, and now…, you don’t like it, but if I had to go back to that time, I would have possessed Sun Woojin’s body again.”

“What did I say…”

As Yeon-young trailed off, Ryu Won grabbed her wrist.

He ran a careful hand down the bracelet on her wrist. It was careful, as if he was casting a spell on it.

Ryu Won gripped her wrist a little more firmly, looking straight at her.

She felt trapped in those clear eyes. She held her breath.

“I told you the other day, if I see you again, I won’t let go.”

“You did.”

“Ms. Yeon-young, don’t leave me.”

“I…”

“Please choose me this time.”

The desperate, rambling words made Yeon-young feel alive.
