Waiting For Your Reincarnation Chapter 88
Yeon-Young sat in her private office, slowly going through her paperwork.
After organizing the files she needed to hand over to the other team members, she stood up.
The time on her bracelet told her it was time for the regular meeting.
A day had passed since she realized she was alive.
Yeon-young told Ryu Won, who was holding her, that she had three days to live and returned to the center.
She hasn’t seen Ryu Won’s face since then.
Laurendia has kept her bracelet connected to Yeon-young so that she can contact her at any time.
She sighed heavily and walked into the conference room, where the entire Branch 1 special team was gathered.
They all averted their gazes at her arrival and went about their business.
Apparently, Yeon-Young’s news had hit each of them in their own way.
“Please take your seats, and let’s get this meeting started.”
Saeri reached out to Yeon-young first, asking for the file.
Yeon-young handed over the file and took a seat next to Ryu Won.
After checking the paper she brought, Saeri opened her mouth.
“What’s the situation in Branch 4?”
“It’s worse than Branch 5. Half of the center building was blown away. For now, the spirits have been divided into branches and evacuated.”
“What are the chances of another invasion?”
“It seems more likely that they’ll target another branch than that they’ll break into Branch 4 again.”
In response to Saeri’s question, Zhaolin gave her analysis.
Lee Daeheon fleshed out the Snarl War a bit more.
Whereas before they had sent troops to Branch 5 and left a warning, this time they attacked Branch 4 and destroyed all of its buildings.
After a brief pause due to a power outage, Branch 4 was damaged beyond repair by a concentrated attack from the Snarl.
They were fortunate that the spirits were unharmed, but they couldn’t help but think about what was next.
Surely the next one would be even more devastating.
“Where is Daeheon Lee?”
“It’s hard to tell. His movements are like a mirage. We’ve searched every inch of Tanato World, but there’s not even a trace of him.”
“It’s still there. I can feel the earth’s energy.”
“We’ll work with special teams from other branches to investigate further.”
“You keep tracking the location, and Jung Jaeho, make a report on recovery alternatives. Ryu Won, you go out and check the other branches, and Yeon-young go to…”
Saeri paused in her task order as she looked at Yeon-young.
She looked at Yeon-young and paused, perhaps wondering if she should give her the job or not.
Yeon-young understood Saeri’s feelings.
She didn’t know how she felt about entrusting Yeon-young with more work when she knew she might be back on track soon.
Fidgeting with her fingers, Yeon-young thought for a moment, then lifted her head and smiled at Saeri.
“Chairman, do you think we can have a cup of tea today?”
“…Sure. Then, let’s get up first.”
Saeri gave a small smile at Yeon-young’s words. She untangled her crossed legs and stood up from her seat.
Then, she suddenly clutched her forehead and wobbled. Startled, Yeon-young jumped out of her seat and walked over to Saeri.
Saeri couldn’t hide her surprise and blinked her eyes slowly.
Yeon-young could see it. Saeri’s power was pulsating inside her body.
‘Are her powers being forced open? Why?’
She quickly scanned every inch of ISaeri’s body, trying to figure out the cause, but she had a question. No matter how she moved her eyes, she couldn’t locate the core.
She had never failed to locate a core since she had mastered her ability.
Then she remembered that she hadn’t been able to see the core when Saeri had used her ability either.
She bit her lip in puzzlement. Saeri rose to her feet, fighting off the dizziness and confusion, only to fall forward again.
Yeon-young checked Saeri’s condition.
“Chairman!”
Saeri had completely lost consciousness.
Her body turned transparent and then back to normal.
Yeon-young, who was next to her, quickly put her hand on Saeri’s arm.
As she did, memories of Saeri seeped into her head. Instead of rejecting it, Yeon-young embraced it.
When Yeon-young opened her eyes from the memory space, she was speechless.
“What is this?”
In front of her was a vast expanse of sky. She was so high up that she couldn’t even see the ground.
She walked alone in the sky. It was a truly blue sky, without any shining memories or anything else.
There was only the sky.
It was both marvelous and terrifying to be alone in a realm where humans could not walk.
“Why can’t I find any memories?”
Yeon-young swallowed her question and stared at her palms, closing her eyes and concentrating on any light that might emerge.
For a moment, her vision was dark, but after a long, patient wait, she saw a single light rising in the distance.
Still with her eyes closed, she walked toward it. The light was elusive.
The space in Saeri’s memory was a trial. Nothing was easy just because she wanted it to be.
The more she thought about it, the more her anxiety increased. Gradually, Yeon-young caught the light.
And this time, as if in response to her aura, Saeri’s memories came back to her.
“You look so much like her.”
“Who are you?”
“Why do people provoke me like this?”
Behind Saeri’s voice came the voice of a strange woman.
Yeon-young looked around in a daze. This was a place she had been before. It was a shelter in the wall, hidden inside a village in the Fifth District.
Someone lay helplessly on the floor of the den.
Soft golden-brown hair. Round, cute eyes. A core of power that was cracked here and there, barely retaining its form. It was Ahn Ji Hua.
Ji Hua barely opened her eyes, her face pale and exhausted. Saeri, who was squatting in front of her, jaw set, looked at her with a burdened face.
“Didn’t Ji Hua reincarnate and become the chairwoman?”
One of Yeon-young’s hypotheses was wrong. Ahn Ji Hua and Saeri were contemporary.
Saeri placed her hand on Ji Hua’s upper arm, then lowered it again.
“You will soon be gone. You’ve earned it.”
“Who…, what?”
“You, the one who keeps trying to save the Snarl.”
Saeri did not answer Ji Hua’s question.
Ji Hua clutched her chest with her hands and slowly rose to her feet.
She didn’t even look away from Saeri’s fierce gaze.
“The world cannot be divided into evil and good.”
“…….”
“Snarl is a soul just like the rest of us, and we can’t move forward by ostracizing them.”
Saeri, who had been pondering Ji Hua’s words, suddenly let out a bloodthirsty, flirtatious laugh.
Ji Hua watched her behavior in bewilderment.
Saeri slowly stood up from her seat, her hands caressing her luscious blonde hair.
“You should be laughing at this. You should be crying. You should cry.”
“What?”
“Your destiny was annihilation from the moment you intervened in the Snarl.”
“I know.”
Ji Hua stared at her transparent chest patch. She rubbed her hand over it and made a cool face.
She had been told that she was about to be annihilated, but she was determined.
Saeri lifted her head and stared at the ceiling before turning her gaze back to Ji Hua.
“Let’s make a deal.”
“What? What kind of deal?”
“I’ll help you. I can’t bring you back to life right away because I don’t have the power, but I can keep you alive if you lend me a piece of your soul.”
“A piece of me?”
“Yep. Leave your body elsewhere, just the fragment. I’ll take over your mind.”
“Why do you want to help me?”
Jihua asked, slowly lowering her hand from her chest.
As she pondered her question, Saeri clenched and unclenched her palms, weighing something.
Then she answered.
“I need your body,” she said, “because now I want to see it up close.”
Behind her golden eyes, a deep abyss was visible.
Ji Hua must have realized the meaning of her gaze and accepted Saeri’s offer.
After receiving Ji Hua’s consent, Saeri placed her hand on her chest again.
Saeri’s eyes glowed with a brilliant light, and a certain energy flowed into Ji Hua’s body.
Ji Hua relaxed, closing her eyes softly, and asked, “What’s your name?”
“Me? I’m…”
Saeri mumbled something, but it was unintelligible.
The broken pieces in Ji Hua’s chest palm coalesced into a sphere. And a part of it entered Saeri’s body.
Ji Hua collapsed unconscious, as if she had fallen into a deep sleep.
“Ugh.”
Saeri swallowed a painful groan as she received Ji Hua’s fragment.
Her body swayed for a moment, and when she reached out to grip the wall, dirt spilled out of her palm.
The cave rumbled and vibrated as if it were about to collapse.
Saeri clicked her tongue softly as she shielded Ji Hua’s body.
Soon, a small light appeared around them, and their figures disappeared together.
“Phew.”
At the same time, Yeon-young also bounced out of Saeri’s memory.
