Rivena smiled brightly at the sight of Yurika in front of her.

She had been observing the situation from a high place in the temple precisely because she anticipated something like this might happen.

Medes’s family would have thought that Theodore and Rivena would be together, and even Theodore would have been sure that she would come.

‘I thought this might happen too.’

No one knew Medes better than Artae.

They were incredibly devoted to their families.

Now that Oscar had regained his senses, there was no way he would allow Yurika to fall into danger.

‘Of course, I thought that Yurika could come forward on her own….’

She wasn’t sure about that either.

The Alit was the only way to prove blood ties. The more the situation was driven to extremes, the more likely it was that Yurika would be unable to endure it and try to resolve it herself.

That was why Rivena had waited upstairs until late.

After confirming that Yurika and Yohan pretended to head toward the central garden before slipping away, she came here.

With the temple in chaos and wizards swarming about, there was only one place they would go.

As expected, Rivena’s prediction was correct.

‘My victory, Yurika Medes.’

To make matters better, Yohan Hyrad was standing far from Yurika.

They didn’t know it, but this secret laboratory had multiple entrances.

Ribena avoided their gaze and entered through another entrance, approaching Yurika.

“Rivena?”

And that was when Yurika turned around with a beast-like sense.

‘Still too late!’

She had intended to pour it quietly without being noticed, but Rivena immediately splashed the prepared drug onto Yurika.

* * *

Yohan was thinking about getting away from Yurika, but he was startled when Yurika suddenly shouted the word ‘Rivena’, and only then did he turn around.

“Yurika?”

He had been certain he was watching the entrance carefully in case someone came in.

‘There was another entrance.’

Yohan’s eyes widened at another possibility that had just occurred to him.

But what was even more shocking was that the moment Rivena splashed the unknown drug on Yurika, Yurika suddenly disappeared.

In an instant, the dress crumbled, leaving only Yurika’s clothes behind.

Rivena quickly moved towards the dress.

“Yurika!”

It was when he was running towards Yurika and trying to use magic on Rivena.

“It would be better not to use magic.”

Rivena’s cold voice echoed.

Before he knew it, a squirrel was in her hand.

“Kyuuung! Kyuung!”

As he watched the squirrel flailing its limbs, Yohan’s heart began to beat anxiously.

If nothing else, he had begged Yurika several times not to transform into a beast. It seemed Rivena knew how to handle beasts.

And yet, she had transformed into her divine beast form in this manner.

“It’ll probably be faster for me to harm Yurika than for you to attack me.”

Yohan’s steps stopped.

Yurika’s safety was in Rivena’s grasp.

“You don’t have to regret standing apart from Yurika. Even if you’d been beside her, you wouldn’t have been able to stop it. And honestly, being away from Yurika is the best option for you right now.”

Looking at Yohan, Rivena spoke proudly.

“You feel like you’re going insane, don’t you? If you had been right next to her, Yurika would already be unconscious in your hands. Isn’t that right? You wouldn’t have been able to stand seeing her think about something else while you were in front of her.”

“…….”

“I understand wizards very well.”

At Rivena’s confident words, Yohan’s face hardened even more.

In fact, it was because what she said was not wrong.

He hadn’t told Yurika, but he was excessively stimulated right now.

When Yohan couldn’t refute her, Yurika looked at him with shocked eyes.

Yurika, who was caught by Rivena, was so surprised that even her struggling arms stopped moving.

“Oh dear.”

Rivena smiled and stroked Yurika’s hair with her other hand.

“That’s just how wizards are. Surely someone has given you advice before?”

“Kyuung….”

“But I guess you ignored it.”

“Kyuung.”

“The Medests are strangely weak to unnecessary affection. Aren’t they?”

Looking at such a Rivena, Yohan took a step closer.

“Get your hands off her.”

Yohan warned with a voice seething with anger.

“Now.”

“Look at that.”

Rivena smiled even more leisurely.

“What you hate most right now is my hand touching her, isn’t it? No matter what’s happening outside.”

Rivena’s fingers lightly lifted from Yurika’s head.

At the same time, Yurika’s head drooped limply. Yohan cried out in alarm.

“Yurika!”

“Don’t panic. She’s alive. I only knocked her out temporarily.”

Rivena looked at Yohan and shrugged.

“I thought Yurika would be even more shocked if she listened to our conversation any longer.”

“…….”

Yohan silently glared at her. He hadn’t expected things to unfold this way.

He had naturally assumed Ribena would move together with Theodore.

Perhaps it was a mistake to believe Trevor’s words.

He’d thought those kinds of statements must be true. Were they all just madness?

My head was spinning.

Normally, he would have been able to think more clearly, but at the moment, it was difficult just to remain standing.

His nerves were stretched thin, and he had already used too much magic. The situation was terribly unfavorable for him.

“How is it…”

Ribena said teasingly.

“Don’t you want to forget everything else and shut yourself inside your estate with just this squirrel?”

“What….?”

“You want this squirrel so badly.”

The squirrel hung limp in Rivena’s hand.

Yohan swallowed dryly.

Rivena was not wrong.

A terrible instinct whispered inside his chest: forget Oscar, forget Sienna—take only this squirrel and hide somewhere.

The same vile possessiveness that had driven his father to choose to kill his mother.

Rivena said with a smile.

“Shall I let you have it?”

Her voice was seductive.

“Shall I let her stay by your side for the rest of your life?”

Yohan stood still without saying a word.

Now, it was Rivena who was taking steps closer to Yohan.

“Both of us can achieve what we want.”

Step by step, she approached him. Each time the squirrel swayed in her hand, Yohan’s gaze swayed with it.

“The method is very simple.”

Stopping right in front of him, Rivena smiled sweetly.

“I’m going to conduct an experiment on this squirrel to turn back time. To do so, I need the magic of a wizard. And whatever the person who provides that magic says, this squirrel will be brainwashed to obey.”

Yohan looked at Rivena with calm eyes.

In a way, Trevor’s words were not wrong.

The experiment of turning back time definitely required magic.

But Trevor had clearly said that the magic was bound to fail.

“If we turn back time, you and I, the subjects of this experiment, will retain our memories of this life. So we can make a deal between ourselves. I’ll turn back time, to just before this squirrel was handed over to the Hyrad estate.”

Rivena spoke as though she were offering a generous favor, her expression filled with confidence.

“What the Duke needs to do is very simple. During the experiment, just whisper one thing to this squirrel.”

She spoke quietly.

“Tell it not to become human. Tell it to remain a divine beast forever.”

“…….”

“Then this squirrel won’t try to become human. It’ll be brainwashed, after all.”

Yohan stared again at Yurika, lying limp in Rivena’s hand, breathing evenly as though asleep.

‘So—turn time back to just before Tezen received this squirrel…’

“At that time, ownership of this squirrel belonged to me. I’ll hand it over to you. Then this squirrel can live its entire life as a divine beast who soothes only you. Without ever thinking of becoming human.”

“…….”

“After that, however you—now a boy again—choose to deal with the Hyrad family, I won’t interfere.”

“And what do you gain in return?”

“I’ll be free to experiment as I please in this temple again. That’s fine with me. What do you think? Honestly, you don’t care about war or peace, do you?”

She tilted her brows upward and lifted the squirrel right in front of his eyes.

“I had you in mind from the beginning, rather than Prince Theodore.”

With Yurika so close before him, Yohan’s eyes trembled.

Rivena asked again, seductively.

“Will you do it?”

It was a tone of voice as if she already knew the answer.
