Chapter: Someone has taken up farming at my house.

After the illegal squatter left the house.

I sat near my spaceship, a short distance away, and fiercely glared at my house.

Should I confront the illegal squatter when he returns? Telling him this is my house?

Grumble…

Hiss. But I feel like I’d turn into a flattened jelly if I get hit once.

Gruuuuumble…!

Being a flattened jelly would be lucky; I might just become a burst jelly.

Gruuuuuumble!

Why am I hungry even though I’ve become a jelly?

I tried my best to ignore it, but my stomach, which hadn’t had a thing to eat all day, was staging a riot.

I want to eat something.

Smacking my lips, I looked around.

The bright orange carrots in the field looked very appetizing.

Besides, the wide-open front gate felt as if it were beckoning me to come inside.

Ahem.

He might not notice if I just eat one.

A wicked voice echoed in my head.

Right. If I just eat one…

The decision was quick.

I moved in a crawling posture so as not to make squeaking sounds.

I’ll just crawl in like this. Like a stealth bomber—a fighter jet that doesn’t get caught on radar…

As I entered through the gate, the tiny field came into full view. The carrots were planted sparsely, much like a middle-aged man’s thinning hair.

Moving silently and swiftly like a water deer raiding a farm—that was my plan!

I pulled a carrot out and swallowed hard.

But.

…?

No matter how I looked at it, this wasn’t grown in a field, but a cleanly prepped carrot sold in a mart.

I thought it was strange, but my hunger was more urgent. I blew off the dirt and started munching on the carrot.

Just one. Let’s just eat one.

However, one became two, and two became three, and I ended up losing my mind…

‘…?’

I ate them all?

When I came to my senses, I had completely pulled out and eaten the few carrots that were there.

All that remained in the field were the scattered carrot tops.

I chewed on the last carrot left in my hand and looked around.

I don’t know when the illegal squatter will return, so let’s get out of here quickly.

I started scrambling away again.

It was then.

A sound that made my two ears perk up was heard.

Creaaak—

It was the sound of the gate opening.

Startled, I went and hid behind the gate.

Thud. Thud.

The sound of military boots crossing the threshold could be heard.

Gulp.

I peeked an eye out from beside the gate and observed the man. The man was moving with a straight and refined gait, like a soldier.

Yes, hurry up and go into the house.

The moment he steps inside, I’ll slip out of here like a stealth bomber.

Just as I was thinking that.

Thud. Thud. Thud.

The man’s feet, which were about to head into the house, stopped next to the field.

Did he notice?

Well, I suppose it’s impossible not to notice when the carrot field has been completely trashed.

Thump. Thump. Thump.

My heart started beating loudly.

He crouched down and picked up one of the carrot tops I’d left behind.

The carrot top spun around in the man’s pincer-like grip.

A brief silence hung in the air.

My vision spun as I felt like the man would hear the thumping sound of my heart in this stillness.

Then, the man, as if thinking of something, suddenly stood up.

‘He didn’t really notice, did he?’

Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap.

My trembling from sheer terror was brief.

The man simply passed through the gate and went straight outside.

‘Oh…?’

Did I not get caught?

The illegal squatter might be a bit of a fool.

I stifled a laugh that was leaking out.

Now I just have to make my exit.

After waiting a bit and hearing no further sound, I was about to crawl out secretly from behind the gate.

Grab—

A large hand grabbed my two ears and lifted me up, dangling.

“Huh?”

The man was looking down at me, held up like a rabbit.

“…?”

“…?”

Our eyes met, and we both had question marks floating above our heads.

* * *

Dangling from a tree, I spun round and round, left and right.

Round and round to the left.

Round and round to the right.

“I—I’m dizzy…”

“Quiet.”

I tried letting out a groan, but the farm owner was cold-hearted.

“You’re the one who stole the carrots, right?”

“Carrots? I have no idea what you’re talking about.”

Feigning innocence, I shook my head with wide, naive eyes.

Because I didn’t want to become a flattened jelly. I absolutely had to insist it wasn’t me.

I couldn’t see the expression of the man wearing a gas mask, but I could clearly feel that he was highly suspicious of me.

“If you lie, I’m not letting you go.”

“Actually, it was me.”

“I knew it.”

Tsk.

Since I’d been caught anyway, I chewed on the bits of carrot remaining in my mouth.

At my shameless attitude, the farm owner looked dumbfounded, and I rolled my eyes around.

“Ugh, I’m so di—dizzy…”

“You think I’ll let you go just because you do that?”

I glared at him sharply and complained in a sulky voice.

“You said you’d let me go. You’re a bad human if you lie.”

“A bad human?”

The man let out a small chuckle and, instead of replying, aggressively thrust his shovel into the ground.

As if to say, if I really were a bad human, you would’ve been finished in one strike.

Eek!

The man narrowed his eyes and gave one of my trembling ears a poke. My long, rabbit-like ear compressed inward before popping back out with a bbok.

The man looked me up and down, then asked in a highly suspicious tone.

“Just what exactly are you?”

I understood him.

Honestly, even I would find it strange if a round piece of jelly started talking. I was a stranger to myself, too.

Just as I was lamenting why I ended up like this, the quest window popped up.

[You have encountered an Earth native species.]

[Quest]

Establish a friendly relationship with the Earth native species.

[Reward]

Cosmic Coin +1

…Establish a friendly relationship? Is that even possible?

But for the sake of the quest, I cleared my throat and spoke.

“Don’t worry. I’m just an ordinary alien. I don’t harm Earthlings.”

“I don’t think you even could.”

It was true. I became a little sullen.

However, whether I was sullen or not, the guy looked me over and muttered.

“Are you something that came out of a dungeon?”

“No, strictly speaking, it’s not like that.”

“Was there another Dungeon Break that spawned such low-grade monsters?”

The man wasn’t listening to me at all.

Whether I denied it or not, the man seemed to have understood in his own way that I was some kind of monster.

Well, if you think about it, monsters are alien species too…

But treating me as low-grade, that’s too much!

Despite how I look, I am the top-tier species in the universe!

I pouted but soon suppressed my anger.

Because right now, I need to execute a secret operation.

An operation to build friendly relations and get my house back from that guy.

“Hey, farm owner.”

“…?”

“Want me to help you?”

At my proposal, the farm owner snorted.

“With what exactly?”

“I can help you with your foolish carrot farming.”

“…”

Fierce eyes were directed at me.

I shrank back at that but tried to act nonchalant and continued.

“What were you thinking planting whole carrots? Instead of growing, they’ll just rot. That’s why I ate them for you.”

“That’s…”

“It’s obvious. The only farming you’ve ever done is probably putting an onion in a cup of water in kindergarten.”

“That’s—”

“Do you really think you can survive farming in a desolate place like this with that level of skill?”

“…”

“It’s impossible with such a complacent mindset. That’s why I am personally offering to help.”

Of course, I don’t know how to do anything either. The part about only ever putting an onion in a cup of water in kindergarten was my story.

But because I had my alien cheat codes, I could afford to be infinitely shameless.

Because I had no intention of giving up a house where comfort was guaranteed.

“Now you understand, right?”

Twitching my eyebrows, I pointed to the ropes with a nod of my head.

“…?”

The guy didn’t immediately catch my signal.

So I spoke confidently.

“You should untie me, partner.”

“Who are you calling partner?”

The man, who had become my partner in an instant, seemed frustrated and took off his gas mask. When he did, a face that looked younger than expected appeared.

Seeing his completely exposed face, I was so startled I gasped. For a moment, my heart felt like it stopped.

‘…Why is this person here?’
