Ezra asked Dane with a look of disgust.

“Why, why is he acting like that? Was he on drugs?”

Although it was because of the pheromones, it would be difficult for Ezra, a Beta, to understand. He could smell the pheromones and knew in his head how they affected Alphas and Omegas, but he couldn’t experience it with his own body.

“That son of a bitch….”

Dane spat out a low curse. Under these circumstances, he could only assume that releasing pheromones on the man was done solely to insult him.

“Drag him out, even if you have to use force. It’s dangerous if we drag this out any longer.”

At Dane’s words, Ezra and the other colleagues hurried forward. They desperately tried to grab the man, but the naked man only wailed and thrashed about, refusing to cooperate easily.

“Wait, hey! The house is collapsing right now!”

“You need to get out, pull yourself together!”

“Grab his arm there, lift him! No, not there!”

Even with three grown men clinging to him, he didn’t budge an inch. If anything, he only made things more difficult by hitting and pushing the firefighters who were wearing their heavy equipment.

There was only one reason that man was raving like a lunatic: pheromones.

And the perpetrator was standing off to the side, leisurely watching the spectacle. As if he were watching a very entertaining circus.

He must have done this countless times before. He surely enjoyed watching others howl and go insane because of his pheromones. Seeing him go out of his way to do something like this even in this situation, it was clear this man was riddled with malice.

He didn’t know if this was a special pastime for extreme Alphas or those who associated with them, but now was not the time to indulge it.

“Hey.”

Grayson flinched at the low voice that suddenly sounded from behind. Someone had been standing behind him, hidden by the thick smoke, which he hadn’t noticed. Just as he was about to turn around reflexively, the voice said,

“Don’t be a nuisance.”

The voice sounded like it was grinding its teeth, but that was the end of it. Suddenly, an impossibly fresh scent wafted through the acrid smoke.

…Huh?

Grayson paused for a moment. A refreshing fragrance, as if it were soothing the tension in his entire body, spread all at once. Soon after, Grayson felt his vision suddenly go black, and his entire body collapsed. At the same time, the pheromones he had been pouring out vanished in an instant.

“Got him!”

The crew member wrestled the man, who had stopped moving right on cue, and lifted him up. He was still struggling, but perhaps drained of strength, he was flailing weakly; after the crew members slung him over their shoulders and disappeared, Ezra hurriedly approached Dane.

“What happened? Why is this man acting like this?”

To his flustered question, Dane answered nonchalantly.

“He must have inhaled a lot of smoke.”

“Ah.”

Ezra nodded, convinced. He hurried to lift the man, but it wasn’t easy. The blonde man was immensely large; he looked to be well over two meters tall. It was too far a distance to carry such a massive body. Ezra, already winded, panted for breath, and Dane, who had been carrying Grayson with him, suddenly said,

“Let’s just toss him.”

“What?”

Ezra turned around in surprise, and Dane continued matter-of-factly.

“Let’s toss him onto the air mattress. If we try to drag this guy out, we’re all going to die.”

He wasn’t wrong. By now, the flames had spread throughout the house, and no one could guarantee their safety on the way to the stairs leading to the lower floor.

“Let’s go to the window.”

Following Ezra’s agreement, the two hurriedly entered a nearby room. When they opened the window and leaned out, fortunately, the crew members fighting the fire spotted them immediately.

“Air mattress! We need a mattress!”

Dane shouted as he draped the heavy load they had been dragging onto the window frame. Seeing that he was still unconscious, Ezra said worriedly,

“We need to connect the oxygen as soon as possible, at least let me use my mask….”

“Lift.”

Dane cut him off without a care, ignoring Ezra’s attempt to take off his own mask to cover Grayson’s face. And before Ezra could even process those words, Dane shoved Grayson out of the window frame on his own.

“W-wait! Let’s, let’s do it together!”

Ezra, who had hurriedly grabbed Grayson’s limp body, let go after confirming they were ready. Dane and Ezra escaped the burning house shortly after, and the flames were extinguished about an hour later.

When Grayson came to, he was lying on a hospital bed. He lay there for a moment, letting the memories return. As he vaguely recalled the fire at the mansion, the hospital room door opened and someone entered.

“Ah, you’re awake.”

As he awkwardly propped himself up, the nurse checking his vital signs continued.

“Are you feeling any discomfort? Other than having inhaled a bit of smoke, you’re perfectly fine. You can be discharged whenever you’d like. Is there anything you’re curious about? Or any pain?”

To the kind question, Grayson blinked as if confused, then looked up at him with a deep frown.

“How did I get here?”

“The rescue team brought you. We ran several tests because they said you’d lost consciousness, but nothing unusual appeared. Were you very tired?”

He added a joke with a smile. But that wasn’t the truth. Grayson asked with a serious face.

“That’s it? Nothing else?”

The nurse tilted his head with a smile. Without gaining any particular information, Grayson sent him away. Once he was alone, he mulled over his thoughts again.

What was it? That thing.

He couldn’t remain calm when he recalled his last memory before losing consciousness. Grayson hopped off the bed and paced around the room. He remembered clearly that he had poured out an immense amount of pheromones, enough to erase the twins’ own scents. So, the room had been filled only with his own fragrance mixed with the acrid smoke.

But it was definitely there. A scent that was not Grayson’s, a completely different fragrance.

The identity of the scent that had wafted from behind him was certainly something he knew. A scent he had smelled a very long time ago—not just that of a common Omega, but….

An extreme Omega’s pheromones.

Grayson had smelled it before. It was because the Omega who gave birth to him was an extreme Omega. When he was young, Grayson would beg him to let him inhale the scent to his heart’s content. Unlike ordinary Omegas, extreme Omegas could control their pheromones, completely hiding them at will or pouring them out to throw extreme Alphas into chaos. Just like how he had caused Grayson to lose consciousness.

One of the firefighters has ‘that.’

His heart began to pound like crazy. Unable to calm down at all, he paced rapidly around the hospital room, running his hands through his hair in a nervous frenzy.
