I’m the Future Crazy Male Lead’s Mother Chapter 30
The Siastor ducal residence was peaceful.
So very, very peaceful that it was hard to believe monsters had rampaged through the place like madmen just yesterday.
Chirp, chirp. The adorable sounds of birds could be heard, along with the gentle trickle of tea being poured. Everything was wonderfully tranquil.
‘Dazar even put up a sleep barrier last night, so I must have slept soundly no matter what noises were coming from outside.’
Just as Dazar had said, seemed to have slept very well. His complexion looked even better than it would have after drinking ten servings of loach extract.
“Lady Cilia, why are you staring so intently at Lord Axion?”
“Hmm.”
Carl tilted his head as he watched me stare at Axion, who was sitting on my lap and giggling happily.
His soft, squishy white cheeks, round eyes, and even the tiny tongue peeking out slightly.
Axion was still just as cute and lovable as ever.
But yesterday, when I had been in danger because of the monsters, I was certain that Axion had called out to me.
He hadn’t actually spoken the words with that tiny mouth of his, but still.
“Our Axion, how did you say it yesterday? Hmm?”
“Abwuu?”
“Why don’t you try saying it like yesterday? Come on, Mama~ Say Mama, Mama!”
“Eeeing.”
As I brought my face closer and kept encouraging him, Axion scrunched up his face as if he were about to cry and began to whimper.
Seeing us like that, Carl slightly shook his head.
“Ahem. Come to think of it, I suppose he should be saying ‘Mama’ by now… but you don’t need to rush him, Lady Cilia. You yourself didn’t start talking until later than this.”
“Hmm, really?”
Was the Evanroar bloodline just a little slow when it came to speech?
No. That wasn’t the point. I was certain he’d spoken yesterday.
But I couldn’t tell Carl about that, so all I could do was stare at Axion with a troubled expression.
If Dazar had put up a sleep barrier, then it made sense that Axion had woken up and then fallen back asleep.
“Did you force yourself to wake up because you wanted to save this mother of yours, Axion?”
“Wooong?”
Since I’d woken up when I heard Axion crying, perhaps that really was what had happened.
“Did you know that our Axion can grow up even faster than he is now?”
“Waa!”
Despite all my efforts, Axion still refused to say ‘Mama.’
I gave up for today and spent some time playing with Axion before putting on my straw hat and work clothes and heading toward the rice fields.
“Big Sis, welcome!”
Where had all those knights who had been slaughtering monsters with their gleaming swords yesterday gone?
No matter how generously I looked at them, the men greeting me with cheerful laughter looked like country farmers.
Being called ‘Big Sis’ by men in their thirties and forties was… something I still wasn’t quite used to.
“Ahem. Everyone, gather around.”
At my call, they quickly gathered around me.
Then, when they saw the basket I had brought, they gasped and covered their mouths with both hands.
“T-This is…!”
“I had some free time, so I made some garaetteok.”
“Ooooh!”
I suddenly realized that last time, I’d told them to help me if they wanted to eat garaetteok, and then I’d gone quite a long time without giving them their promised reward.
“Since we’re in the mountains, shall we go back to the training grounds?”
“Pardon?”
“We can put them on skewers and grill them there.”
The Black Hawks looked deeply moved.
“Big Sis!”
I took them back to the training grounds and we enthusiastically grilled the garaetteok.
Each Black Hawk held a skewer of garaetteok, dipping it in honey and chewing away happily.
Watching them tremble all over with blissful expressions, I couldn’t help but wonder if these were really the same Black Hawks I’d seen yesterday.
The reason I’d brought them garaetteok wasn’t simply because I wanted to reward them.
Lately, I’d realized that although these men seemed utterly unremarkable in their everyday lives, whenever the time came to use force, they were absurdly powerful—practically walking cheat codes.
In other words, this was a bribe.
“Now, everyone, listen while you eat. Now that we’ve finished making the rice fields, there’s something else we need to do.”
The Black Hawks looked at me with bright, attentive eyes as they devoured their garaetteok.
“Yes, Big Sis!”
“Tell us! Munch, munch!”
“Hey, you bastard. I told you not to eat mine!”
“Shut up, you bastards. Can’t you hear Big Sis talking?”
The Baldy and the Tanned One started bickering and fighting again, so the others kicked them away.
Those two seemed to fight every single time they met. If the world I’d possessed Cilia into had been a different genre instead of a romance fantasy…
‘Ugh.’
Two bashful faces flashed through my mind for an instant, and I quickly shook my head to banish the image.
Just imagining it was painful.
“Starting tomorrow, we’re going to gather fertilizer.”
I continued, meeting each of their bright eyes in turn.
“So, tomorrow, you need to come prepared to climb the mountain, okay?”
“Yeees!”
They answered in unison as though they were kindergarteners.
I looked at them with slightly overwhelmed eyes before abruptly turning my head away.
Just then, Leon sidled up beside me and whispered,
“Big Sis, about yesterday…”
He covered his mouth with one hand as though he were about to share a secret.
For some reason, there was sparkling honey smeared all over his silver hair.
I stared blankly at the yellow honey clinging to his hair.
How did someone even get honey in their hair? Had he been shaking his head around while tearing into his garaetteok?
“Yes. Yesterday? What about it?”
“Did you perhaps run around inside the castle?”
“Ah… that.”
Hmm. So he saw me yesterday.
‘Dazar told me to keep it a secret that the barrier didn’t work on me.’
I subtly shifted my gaze away from the honey stuck to his hair and stared into the distance.
With a wistful expression, I spoke slowly.
“Ahh. So you saw me.”
“…Ahem. W-Was I not supposed to see?”
“Besides you, did anyone else see?”
“No. As far as I know, I was the only one…”
Leon scratched the back of his head with a dazed expression.
The problem was that he was still holding a piece of garaetteok in the hand he was using to scratch his head.
As a result, the honey coating the garaetteok smeared all over his hair.
His silver hair had now become so clumped together that it looked like a tangled bundle of thread.
There was absolutely no saving it.
Oblivious to the state of his hair, Leon took a bite out of the garaetteok he’d just rubbed against his head and continued.
“I’m sure Lord Dazar put up a sleep barrier yesterday. But you were running around quite a lot. Hmm. And weren’t you with the Lord in the main residence?”
“Yes. I was.”
Dazar had clearly told me to keep my immunity to the barrier a secret, so I had to honor that.
“Actually, that was…”
I beckoned for him to come closer, and he leaned his honey-covered head toward me. The sweet smell of honey tickled my nose.
I leaned toward his ear and whispered.
I told him that Dazar and I had simply gone for a walk under the moonlight. Something like that.
It was technically true.
Leon tilted his head and asked again.
“But yesterday, didn’t I hear you tell the Lord to bark?”
Wait. How had he heard that?
I gave an awkward smile and nodded.
“Yes. I did. Yesterday was the historic day when your Lord became a dog.”
In my words, Leon’s eyes gradually widened before his face turned bright red.
His face became as vividly red as his crimson eyes, and I blinked at him in wonder.
“I-Is that really true? The Lord… Hup!”
He muttered unconsciously, then suddenly startled himself and hurriedly looked around before covering his mouth with both hands.
Seeing him like that, I gave him a wistful nod.
Yes. Yesterday was the day your Lord became a dog.
“Ahem! So the two of you were doing that sort of thing late at night…”
“…?”
What on earth was he talking about?
“You’ve never broken a sweat on the Day of the Rift before, Lord, so I was wondering why you were covered in sweat yesterday…”
“…”
“I’ll definitely keep this a secret, so don’t worry.”
“??”
Wait a second.
Leon had clearly gotten the wrong idea.
That sort of thing late at night? Oh my.
I hurriedly spoke up.
“Leon. You’re not imagining anything strange, are you?”
Leon smiled slightly as if reassuring me, then whispered conspiratorially,
“I already knew that Lady Vanilla likes doggies. To think the two of you were practicing such role-play for the young lady… I’m a little touched.”
“Pardon? Role… play?”
“Yes. You two weren’t preparing some sort of role-play while wearing dog costumes?”
…
Ah.
So I was the one imagining something strange.
Haha.
I was the problem. Definitely me.
The lewd little demon in my head had been running wild, causing me to completely misunderstand what Leon meant. Haha!
I stared blankly at Leon, who, for once, was saying something perfectly wholesome.
Leon, the innocent captain of the Black Hawks, had assumed that since Dazar had become a dog, the two of us must have been blushing while preparing some sort of role-play for Vanilla.
His hair was still completely matted with honey.
Thanks to all the red-tagged adult books I’d devoured in my previous life, my brain had been thoroughly corrupted.
And for some reason, seeing his matted hair irritated me.
Hmph. I couldn’t possibly be the only one who would have thought that after hearing those words.
Right?
“…Let’s just say that’s what happened.”
“You don’t need to keep it a secret from me! I’m the captain of the Black Hawks, after all. And Lady Vanilla will be my future master. Hehe.”
“…Yeah, yeah.”
“Of course, please leave me out of that role-play. I don’t want to become a dog like the Lord.”
Leon said it with such a firm voice, his expression filled with pure innocence.
His mind seemed just as pure, which was admittedly a drawback.
But thanks to that purity, I was forced to confront the state of my own corrupted brain.
Pouting, I nodded.
