Jaeho’s eyes widened at the sight of the white Sly’s. Yeon-young tilted her head to the left at the sight.

“There you are, huh?”

“Do you know what they are?”

“How did Saeri know these were here?”

“I don’t know…, I didn’t hear anything specific, but maybe she found out because the spirit that brought Sly’s powder before was the chairman?”

“They don’t belong in a place like this.”

He muttered to himself in a small voice, looking very uncomfortable.

The Sly’s noticed his strange appearance and ducked back into the bushes.

Yeon-young pushed Jaeho’s back, putting more distance between them. The curious ones came out of the grass first.

“Jaeho, you don’t move from there.”

At Yeon-young’s urging, Jaeho shrugged and laid down in the field.

He looked so much like Ryu Won, Yeon-young chewed her lip.

She picked up the report and checked the Sly’s condition. There was an unusually poorly lit object that needed to be examined.

Crouching down and peering through the grass, she blinked slowly.

The white Sly’s glow seemed stronger than last time.

“What is it?”

Yeon-Young sat down in the field and stroked the surface of the Sly that had come closer. As if her touch was pleasurable, the light seemed to radiate a stronger presence.

She was not mistaken, the white Sly had regained its strength.

She stopped stroking it, a puzzled look on her face.

“Did she already know this and send me?”

Suddenly, Yeon-young felt that all of this was in her hands.

Saeri had sent her to the right place at the right time, as if she already knew.

‘If she wasn’t Ji Hua’s past life, what was she?’

Yeon-young closed her eyes and concentrated, trying to figure out what had happened here.

Then Sly’s memories began to float into her mind.

She skimmed through the images as quickly as she had read Jaeho’s memories.

“Uh, me?”

That’s when Yeon-young spotted an unexpected figure in the white sly’s memory. It was herself.

Shaking her head, Yeon-Young tapped the memory with her index finger, and the Tanato field of the past opened up before her eyes.

Yeon-young, wearing a sleeveless dress, was sitting on the field.

Behind her, a woman approached with long, waist-length blonde hair.

Recognizing the woman, Yeon-young jumped up from her seat.

“Hello?”

“Sit down.”

The woman’s voice was high and thin for a woman, but somehow there was power in it.

It was a voice that was hard to forget once you’d heard it, but even though it was new to Yeon-young, she felt like she’d heard it before.

The woman tucked her side-locked hair, which spilled over her face, behind her ear. It naturally revealed her forehead.

Her hair and eyes shone as brightly as Tanato’s lights.

It was definitely a face she had never seen before. ‘Who the hell is she?’

But as usual, she couldn’t figure out why she had this feeling.

The woman tapped Yeon-young on the shoulder and urged her back to her seat. Yeon-young looked at the woman and smiled coyly.

“Were you alone?”

“Yes.”

“Good, that’s great, I have something for you.”

“Something for me? What is it?”

“Because I think you’re more qualified for the job. Except, of course, for being swayed by emotion.”

The woman flicked her index finger in the air, and white Sly’s appeared in the field, one after the other, where there had been nothing but green grass.

Yeon-young stared at the woman, wide-eyed like a rabbit caught off guard.

The white Sly’s quickly jumped onto her body, sensing her bad mood.

“I’m not wrong after all.”

“What are all these friends? Are they new spirits?”

The woman reached out and gently stroked the top of Yeon-young’s head. Yeon-young squinted, taking in the spirits’ condition.

She seemed to instinctively realize that these spirits felt different from the others.

The woman lifted the Sly on the top of Yeon-Young’s head toward her.

“These are pure souls, baby souls.”

“What?”

“As pure as they are, they have great power, but they are so fragile. Very fragile.”

“I see…”

“Anyway, I originally isolated them separately, but now that you’re here, I thought it would be okay.”

Yeon-young stroked the Sly with a more careful touch than before.

She smiled softly as she set it back down on the field.

She stared into that beautiful smile.

“These souls are yours to take care of, my first job for you. I have great expectations of you.”

“Me? Do you think I’ll be good…”

“I think you’ll be a good match for them. They’re beautiful, pretty souls, not as beautiful as you, but they’re pure and strong.”

Yeon-young made a worried face, wondering if the woman’s compliment fell on deaf ears.

The woman looked at her adoringly and wished her well.

The memory faded from her vision. Yeon-young let out a shallow breath.

“Who is that woman?”

It was a question that remained unanswered even after seeing the memory.

There were so many people in Tanato’s past who were intertwined with Yeon-young. Starting with Ryu Won, Jaeho, and the mysterious woman.

Ryu Won and Jaeho knew who she was at once, but not the woman.

Even with her distinctive features, she couldn’t identify her.

“Maybe there’s a clue if I look further?”

Snapping back to reality, Yeon-young watched the Sly’s still hovering near her.

The white, pure souls she was responsible for.

She looked at them, wondering what they might be, and opened her mouth.

“Do you remember who I am?”

“Ming…”

With that word, the Sly’s burst into light and drew closer to Yeon-young.

It was the answer to her question.

They recognized her instantly; from the first time she appeared in the field.

Yeon-young felt a heavy weight on her chest, like someone had placed a stone on her heart.

So, this is what it feels like to have someone remember something they’ve forgotten.

Clenching her fists, she focused on the Sly’s memory again. She needed to figure out exactly who the mysterious woman was.

But she could no longer find the mysterious woman in their memories, and that seemed to be her first and last memory.

“I’m falling into a labyrinth.”

It was then that Yeon-young found Ryu Won’s figure in the white Sly’s memory.

Ryu Won was staring at them, his face as cold as ice.

Swallowing her doubts, Yeon-young immediately checked the memory.

‘This is…’

She couldn’t hide her surprise at the unexpected location. She covered her mouth with her hands and slowly stepped forward.

The inside felt like it might collapse if she touched it wrong. High columns and ceilings that could only be seen by tilting your head back. A grand, expansive altar that you could see as you walked along the path.

This was the shrine, one of the library’s security backdrops.

“Was this a real place, not just a graphic image?”

For some reason, there was a white Slys around the altar, and Ryu Won sat cross-legged on it, looking down at it.

“You said they were gone, but you hid them here.”

The atmosphere was unusually cool and heavy.

The Slys seemed to be watching him, its body shivering intermittently as it kept the light out.

Ryu Won’s fists suddenly clenched tightly as he surveyed the Slys in the temple with a slow, scrutinizing gaze.

At the same time, another pillar of the temple shattered. The Slys scattered in terror at the sound.

“I can’t find it, no matter how many times I look around in hope.”

He muttered in a low voice as he washed his face dry with anguish. Ryu Won looked more exhausted than angry.

‘What was he looking for?’

Perhaps it was  Yeon-young herself.

‘Where had she gone, leaving him like that?’

For the first time, Yeon-young wondered why she had been reborn as Kim Yeon-young.

Ryu Won leaned forward, deep in thought. He tapped his index finger on the altar and stood up.

“What’s the point of leaving this world as it is, when there’s nothing left of me, I’d rather…”

He smiled wryly and very slowly walked around the inside of the temple, scanning the room.

Ryu Won’s gaze met with a group of white Slys.

He stretched out his hand toward them.

At that moment, every Sly in the temple floated into thin air and let out a pained groan.

He threatened them.
